Obituary: John Adam Kline passed away from pancreatic cancer at home on 13, 2014. Johns loved ones were by his side every step of the way as he battled courageously through his illness. He fought hard until his last breathe, proving strength and tenacity. Johns persistent nature came through in everything; when doctors told him he had 3 months, he made it 13, when the nurse said he had a couple of hours he held out for four days, always ready to beat the odds. John Papa Kline was born (or hatched as he would say) in Geneseo, Illinois to Edwin and Muriel Kline. At the age of five he contracted Polio and had to learn to walk again. In 1959 the Kline family moved to Yakima, WA where his dad Edwin established a painting business. In 1968 John joined the Army and was sent to Vietnam. During his time in Vietnam John was wounded in action and awarded the Purple Heart. Upon returning home in 1969 John was reacquainted with a childhood friend, Patricia Schmidt. just two short weeks of dating, they were married 9, 1970. immediately moved to Fort Riley, Kansas so John could finish his service duties. serving his country, John came back to Yakima to join his dad in the painting business. worked together for over 30 years, sharing the love of painting and hard work. his dad retired John took over the business as Klines Painting. John took great pride in his work and loved to show everyone his completed projects. It was almost impossible to drive anywhere in town without hearing, Look! I painted that... One of his proudest painting accomplishments was Shields Bag and Printing where he spent countless hours repainting the plant. In 1999, at the young age of 50, John had a triple bypass surgery. In his spirit of defiance, he didn let open heart surgery keep him down. He went back to painting following his recovery. Johns ultimate joy was always found in being with his family. John is survived by his soul mate (wife) also known as his bride of 44 years, Patricia, four of his children, Michelle, Cara, Michael and Nicholas, three grandchildren, Blair (Shelby), Gabriel and Ayden, two great grandchildren, Conner and Blair Jr., two adopted daughters, Gretchen and Ashlee, and adopted granddaughter McKenna. He is also survived by his sister Elizabeth and family, mother-in-law Ismay (who was a mother to him), two brothers-in-law, Bruce and Kenneth and sister-in-law Nancy. He is preceded in death by his son Christopher Adam Kline, his parents Edwin and Muriel Kline, his sister Janice Gray and father-in law Thomas Schmidt. The family would like to thank those special people that were there for John and continued to support him throughout his last days; his cousin Sandy with whom he shared a special bond, Bob, Herb and Karen, Richard and Bobbie, Barb, Brenda, Melvin and Betty, Art and countless others. Although some may be unnamed please know your presence is recognized and much appreciated. John had a heart of gold, impacting the lives of so many and was blessed by the love and support he received in return. The Kline family would like to extend profound gratitude to the staff of Memorial Hospice for their unconditional compassion and support. Visitation will be held from 4:00 to 8:00 pm on , 15, 2014, at Keith & Keith Ninth Avenue Chapel.
