Obituary: Carole Ann Kirkwood 5, 1945 - 11, 2015 Carole Ann (Salcido) Kirkwood was born on 5, 1945 in Long Beach, California and passed away on 11, 2015 surrounded by loved ones. She is survived by her mother, Connie; two sisters, Evelyn and Connie; and her brother, Frank. She also leaves behind her husband of fifty-two years, Sam. Sam and Carole met at Narbonne High School in Harbor City, California when they were the young ages of 18 and 16. were married two years later on 2, 1964 at Nativity Church in Torrance. Carole was an extremely supportive wife throughout their marriage and Sams career with the Torrance Fire Department. Carole and Sam had two children Rick in 1966 and Kim in 1969. She was involved in every aspect of their lives from early morning hockey for Rick, to countless soccer games for Kim. She was always there whenever her family needed her. As her children grew up and their relationships changed Carole knew she could always count on Rick while Kim was her best friend and confidant. Carole, also known as Pug or Puggy, was a dedicated daughter and sister. Her parents Frank (1922-1999) and Connie Salcido always knew she was selfless and the giver of the family. The last time Pug was with Connie, she was caring for her as she was becoming ill herself. She held her siblings so very close to her heart. She had the best of friends in her sisters, Evelyn and Connie. If she wasn traveling with them, she was on the phone with them. Pug thought the world of her brother, Frank. She constantly spoke of him as well his family. Puggy had many aunts, uncles, and cousins whom she cherished and adored. She was so proud of her large family. Carole was the life of the family gatherings, never sitting down because she wanted to catch up with the countless family members. Her updates, during the get-togethers were pretty famous speeches as well. Carole was very involved in the community. She was a soccer coach for AYSO for the better part of thirty-five years. She coached Kim, Britnee, Maddie, and Hannah (and probably many of you who are reading this). She loved being on the sidelines and continued to love the sport by watching any game she wasn coaching. She even coached at Torrance High School for four years and South High School for six. Most of her family cannot remember a time where there wasn a huge bag of soccer balls in the back of her car. Carole volunteered at John Adams Elementary School for over twenty-five years. She was a docent for Adventures in Art for many of those years. She enjoyed watching the students imaginations come alive with her guidance. Carole loved her time at the elementary school not only for the work she was doing, but for the relationships she had formed. She found very dear friends in the faculty and staff there. Carole was an active volunteer for Blankets for Soldiers since 2009. This cause purchased material, cut blankets, delivered, and shipped blankets overseas to our troops. Sisters of Charity was an extremely important organization to her as well. Carole not only donated anything and everything to them (even if others weren done with those items!) but she delivered to many families all over the South Bay. Carole was known to her grandchildren as Grandma, Mama, Nana, Nan, and Lala. She loved her ubbies fiercely. There wasn anything in this world, in this universe, she wouldn do for them. Grandma was the family chauffeur, the school tutor, the wisdom giver, and everyones personal shopper. She was the happiest with her bubbies. Mama and Britnee (Beeda) could talk for hours. She was Britnees favorite person in the world and she counted on Mama for everything. Nan and Maddie had a special type of relationship, Maddie describes it as one hat involved a lot of shopping, and I do mean a lot. Maddie loved her Carole until the very end and their bond can never be broken. Grandma and Cole (Boy-Boy) were best buddies and practical jokers. were always teasing each other and having the greatest time. Nan and Ryan (Guy-Guy) were swim partners and every summer you could find them in the pool together. Ryans fondest memory was being pulled by Nan on a blanket up and down the hardwood floors. Grandma and Hannah (Hanee) loved having strawberries and whipped cream together, it was their favorite. If they weren having strawberries, they were having a movie night in Grandmas room. Lala and Nathan (Muchachito) had a very brief but extremely special relationship. In her last months Nathan was the absolute light of her life. There wasn anything as special to her than her children and grandchildren. Her absence will resonate in their lives forever. Whether Carole was on the tennis court, walking on the beach, coaching from the sidelines, rounding up her ubbies, shopping with her husband, or spending time with her sisters she was always doing it to the best of her ability with more love and compassion than anyone could imagine. She was the most selfless soul and cared for all. On behalf of the whole family we appreciate how much you cared for our wife, mother, grandmother, daughter, sister, niece, cousin, friend, and mentor. Any way you knew her, we are certain that you saw the giving, caring, kind, compassionate, and wonderful woman we knew and loved more than anything. We hope that your memories of her will be shared and cherished. Obituary: Wesley Kirksey, 73, died 2, 2014 after many years of battling renal failure. He was born on 2, 1941 in Memphis, TN. Wes served in the Army from 1958 to 1960 and the Army Reserve from 1960 to 1966. He worked for PG&E as a Lineman in Oakland and then as a Systems Operator in Cottonwood and later Round Mountain until his retirement in 2000, after 34 years of service. Everything he did, he did with perfection, organic gardening, building things and working out at the gym. He is survived by the love of his life, Carole, stepson Kent Sorensen, granddaughters Melissa Sorensen and Crystal Joseph, sisters Carolyn Jones of Memphis, TN and Barbara Price of Jonesboro, AR, brother Edward Kirksey of Memphis, TN. He is predeceased by his stepson Steven Sorensen and sister Mary McGowan. There will be a celebration of his life 28, 2014 at the Elks Lodge in Redding from noon until 4:00 P.M. |
