Obituary: Lorraine Louise Sullivan Kensinger was born 1, 1919 on the farm in Enderlin, North Dakota. Lorraine was the second of five children, having an older sister, and 3 younger brothers. The family lived on their farm until Lorraine was 20 years old, and then the family moved to Enderlin, West Fargo, then to Fargo after dealing with the hardships of the Dust Bowl. As a young lady, Lorraine worked as a waitress at Nicks, where she would meet her future husband, Donald Kensinger. Having started a family tradition by having their first date on a motorcycle, this one had a sidecar, which was their only means of transportation. This tradition has continued with both her son and his wife, and daughter and her husband, both having gone also on their first date on a motorcycle, but no sidecars. Don and Lorraine were married 17, 1942, and enjoyed 67 years of marriage together. Their first child, Larry Donald Kensinger, was born 24, 1944, while her husband was serving in World War II in India and Burma. her husband's military time was completed and he returned to North Dakota, the family moved to California, settling in Redding where her older sister and husband had moved to get away from the severe winters in North Dakota. Lorraine became a full time homemaker, enjoying baking, sewing, ironing, and canning, though she did sometimes help her sister and family by working at their Redding Motel. On 24, 1955, their second child, Claudia Eileen Kensinger Robinson arrived. Many summer vacations were spent traveling back to North Dakota to visit family, which was very important to Lorraine. Lorraine and Don enjoyed skiing at both Mt. Lassen Ski area and at the original Mt. Shasta Ski Bowl on s, as that was Don's day off from work. And in the summers it was off to the lakes for fishing. Don and Lorraine enjoyed being outdoors in the boat. Lorraine could not swim so she got to pick out the boat that made her feel safe, even driving the boat so her children could go water skiing. Many enjoyable days were spent at Patrick Point State Park on the coast above Trinidad. Lorraine could spot an agate on Agate Beach like no one else could. She would share the love of agate hunting with others on the beach, many who were visiting the beach from other countries, and would often give them one of the agates she had found as a memory of their time on the beach. Lorraine and her family were part of the founding members of Trinity Lutheran Church on Hilltop Drive in Redding, having helped build the new church in 1954. Lorraine was a very devout Christian woman, which was shared with family and friends. In , 2009, Lorraine and Don moved into an apartment at Vista's Assisted Living, where they lived together until Don's passing in of 2010.
