Obituary: Dear You, Always a rock, forever calm, you remained admirable through all the moments of your life no matter what reality you confronted. You carried a quiet bravery that was noted by all and while you were too humble to acknowledge the vast multitude of your talents and strengths, those around you can stop counting them. Like a puzzle, all the pieces of you were unique and sometimes fit together so logically, and sometimes not. Yet, those connections, those surprising matches, they always made sense in the end. You were so many things, so full of knowledge, your depth belies description. But because you were not a man of many words, only those that counted, before tracing your timeline, we simply want you to know we remain endlessly grateful, for all that you stood for, the warmth you provided, for all of your pieces. You are forever in our hearts, fly high, All Your Loved Ones -- Gene passed from this life peacefully, May 29, 2015 in Reno, Nev., with his soul mate and wife of nearly 39 years, Linda Kanski, by his side. Gene was born in Bend, Ore., Jan. 24, 1946 to Alex and Florence Kanski. graduating high school in 1964, Gene left Redmond in 1965 to enter the military for 21 years of service and was honorably discharged in of 1986. While serving in the military, Gene met future wife Linda in Corning, Calif., after which the love notes never stopped. The couple wed 26, 1976 in Redmond, Ore. The family moved to Chico, Calif., where they lived from 1976 until moving to Quincy, Calif., in 1984. With a passion for the forest, Gene worked for the Forest Service alongside his wife until retiring Nov. 1, 2002. When he wasn mastering telecommunications for the Forest Service, Gene enjoyed several hobbies, including collecting M&M memorabilia, restoring 58 Chevys, operating his Ham Radios (WB6IFW), and perfecting models. Gene also loved his cats, and they dearly loved him. Gene was preceded by his parents. Gene is survived by his wife Linda of Quincy, Calif.; his daughters—Terinda Schroeder of Stillwater, Okla.; Rhonda Otto and her husband Craig of Phoenix, Ariz.; and Lorri Kanski-Namin and her husband Rob of San Diego, Calif. He is also survived by four grandchildren—Jessica Van Gilder of Minneapolis, Minn; Jacob Van Gilder of Chico, Calif.; Theron Schroeder of Stillwater, Okla., and Riley Namin of San Diego, Calif.. Gene is also survived by brother Larry Kanski and his wife Jamie of Redmond, Ore.; Joyce Hopper and her husband Thomas of Jamieson, Ore.; and Bobby Kanski and his wife Nancy of Redmond, Ore. He is also survived my many nieces and nephews whom he loved so. Gene is also survived by many other relatives and very dear friends. He will be missed by all who knew and loved him, but we look forward to seeing him again someday. A celebration of life will be held , 3, at Gansner Park at 11:30 a.m. All are welcome.
