Obituary: Major Walter Fleming (Ret.), 85, of Richmond, passed away 10, 2010. He is survived by his wife of 46 years, Louise D. Kay; daughters, Betty Kay Schall (Lawrence) of Bothell, Wash., Patricia D. Ferguson (Bill) of Richmond; grandchildren, Michael Kay Ross (Mary), Adam Kent Ross, R. Christopher Ferguson (Margaret), Jason S. Ferguson (Kate); great-grandchildren, Morgan Emma Ferguson, Catherine Kay Ross, Andrew E. Ross; a sister, Elizabeth Powell; and his beloved dog, Chobee; also numerous nieces and nephews. Walter served in the United States Navy Seabees during World War II. He was a member of Northside No. 292 Masonic Lodge AF&AM, Scottish Rite 32nd Degree Mason, Past Potentate of ACCA Shrine in 1979. He received two degrees from VCU and graduated from the FBI Academy. He served on the National Committee of Aerospace Organizations in developing lightweight armor for law enforcement and military personnel. He retired as Deputy Chief of Police for the City of Richmond with a rank of major after 27 years of service. He became a resident of Beaufont Towers in May 2006, where he served as past president of the Residents Association. He was a member of Calvary Methodist Church. The family will receive friends , 12, from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. at the Huguenot Chapel-Woody , 1020 Huguenot Road, and where a funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Interment will be held , 16, at 10 a.m. at Virginia Veterans at Amelia. In lieu of flowers, the family requests contributions to Shriners Crippled Childrens Hospital. |

Obituary: On , 22, 2015, Mildred Keith Kay died in Fairfax , Virginia. Mildred was born and raised in Washington DC, and is survived by her husband of 60 years, Harry Lee Kay Jr; sister May Ungemach of Novato, California; son and daughter-in-law Bryan and Jan Kay of Chesterton, Indiana; daughter and son-in-law Patricia Edens and James German of Fairfax; daughter Susan Kay of Vienna, Virginia; grandson Benjamin Kay of Charleston, South Carolina; grandson Andrew Kay of Bloomington, Indiana; and granddaughter Jennifer Kay of Columbia, South Carolina. Mildreds sister Phyllis Daniel, of Naples, Florida, predeceased her. To all who were blessed to know her, Mildred was a person of remarkable kindness, warmth, and good humor. She had a servants heart, and worked for many causes, cared for many people, and rescued many abandoned household pets. Mildred also worked for the Mutual of Omaha Insurance , was an antique seller, was treasurer for the Parklawn Neighborhood Watch for 20 years, and a volunteer of longstanding in both the nursery and kitchen at Arlington Baptist Church. A viewing will be held at Demaine at 5308 Backlick Road, in Springfield, Virginia on , 27th, from 6:00 pm until 8:00 pm in the evening. A funeral service will be held at Arlington Baptist Church, located at 714 S. Monroe Street, in Arlington, Virginia, beginning at 11:00 a.m., with burial to follow at National Memorial Park. |
