Obituary: Virginia May (Kunz) Kuykendall 8, 1929- 16, 2015 First of all, let us say, that it is IMPOSSIBLE, to put into less than two pages, or less than a thousand words, the totality of any persons life, especially our Mother, our Mammaw, our Sister, our Aunt, and our friend. A few short paragraphs cannot contain enough information to express what a beautiful, wonderful woman she was. There just isn enough time or enough space to fairly say what you should about such a sweet, kind person. But, here is a tiny thumbnail of what was her amazing life. We are so privileged to have been a part of it. Virginia May (Kunz) Kuykendall, "Mammaw," was born to Ervin J. Kunz and Ruth Grace Kunz on 8, 1929 in San Antonio, Texas and completed her journey to eternal life on 16, 2015. She married Myles Reyburn Kuykendall on 17, 1947. Virginia was preceded in death by her parents, sister Kathleen Bishop, brothers Frank and Norman Kunz and husband Myles. She is survived by her daughter Karon Preiss and husband Weldon of New Braunfels, son Clay Kuykendall and wife Megan of Sour Lake, Texas, son Mark Kuykendall and Bruce Bullard of Los Cerrillos, New Mexico. Grandchildren Rebekka Guzman and husband Roy, Mindee Engler and husband Kevin of New Braunfels, Brant Kuykendall of Austin, Cole Kuykendall and wife Amber of Cypress, Texas. Mammaw was blessed with seven great grandchildren, Kaley Kuykendall; Cade Kuykendall; Liesl Engler; Audrey Kuykendall; and triplets Amelia, Karston, and Gretchen Engler. She is also survived by her brother, Ralph H. Kunz and wife Mildred and family of Baytown, Texas as well as numerous nieces and nephews and their families and friends of a lifetime. Known by most as "Mammaw," her warm smile and joyful countenance will be missed by everyone who knew her. From childhood to adulthood, she was a shining example to all, and always had a smile on her face. Even though she was a cheery person, she was very quiet, and never outspoken. She never raised her voice, and always kept her temper. She was the servant of all, and even at a young age took care of her family. Throughout her life, she cared for all of her family, whether it was an ill parent, sibling, or her own child or husband. And later in life, as illnesses and conditions took their toll, she cared for her family again, as they needed hospice care. She lovingly took her loved ones in, and cared for them until their time of passing. Virginia, even though the quiet type, acquired leadership skills on her way through school and business college. She would lead groups like PTO in the schools, and direct the church choir, cook for camps (along with her husband) at church camps all summer, and keep up with her growing family. Family was always first for Virginia. She always made certain that weekends were for ogether times. She made certain that her family was at church, and lived according the teachings of the church. She wanted her children to have every advantage for learning, so they moved out of San Antonio, to Bulverde, and entered the country life. New Braunfels became the family home in the late 60s and Virginia met new people who would soon accept her into the tightly-wound groups established here. She had such a friendly smile and gentle way, that everyone loved her and wanted her to be around them. She was so easy to get along with, and would do anything to help anyone. Groups like the American Legion and the Veterans of Foreign Wars were service organizations she joined, and she also worked with the New Braunfels Marsch-un-Wunder Gruppe and the New Braunfels Quilt Guild, making life-long friends every-where she went. She was always active in church. And her journey through churches was an interesting one in her life, but one certain fact was her love for the Book of Mormon. She read the Book of Mormon every day, and even when her husband was in failing health, she read to him as she just knew he could still hear her. And when she was in her final days, she enjoyed the scriptures, specifically the Book of Mormon, being read to her and also loved hearing the hymns being sung to her. And when she heard the Mormon Tabernacle Choir sing, WOW!!! There was always a reaction! She loved to sing, and had a beautiful voice. She would sing her favorite hymns and smile with the greatest joy-her whole face would light up, especially when singing The Spirit of God. The family would like to especially thank Mona Talukdar and the staff at Seasons Alzheimers & Assisted , who provided kind, loving, and patient care this past eleven months, and Heart-to-Heart Hospice for their comforting care for the last two months. A Memorial Service will be held , 21, 2015 at 11:00 AM at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, 1390 Hanz Drive, New Braunfels, Texas. Interment will be at a later date at the Fort Sam Houston National . In lieu of flowers please honor her with a donation to your Church or the charity of your choice. |
