Obituary: Robert (Bob) William Kretzler left his earthly broken body with a sound mind on 12, 2013, surrounded by his loving family. Bob was fundamentally a quiet individual. Although he would not want any special recognition, his family and friends would describe him as truly exceptional and noteworthy. Mark Twain once remarked 'Actions speak louder than words, but not nearly as often'. Bob lived this principle out in everyday life. Bob was born 5, 1925 to Elda May and William Henry Kretzler in Sewickley, Pennsylvania. He attended Sewickley schools and then joined the Army Air Cadets in the later years of WW II. an honorable discharge, he received a degree in Petroleum Engineering with a minor in Geology from the University of Pittsburg in 1953. He subsequently moved to Odessa to work for Shell Oil , retiring in 1981. a brief year with Meadco Properties, he worked at Maralo Oil retiring for a second time in 1993. Bob married Glyna Tarver at First Presbyterian Church in Odessa on 23, 1957. He was a longtime member of the former Trinity Presbyterian Church, Society of Petroleum Engineers, AAPG, EAA, and West Texas Region of The Antique Automobile Club of America. He had numerous interests but most important were his children and grandchildren of whom he was very proud. Many enjoyable hours were spent hunting and fishing, especially trout fishing in Colorado and remote Alaska. Bob would watch the football and baseball games with Glyna but critique each move and play. He had an avid interest in car races and the restoration of old cars. Bob kept up with the latest in the oilfield, aviation, space, politics and the grandchildren's activities. He felt fortunate to have traveled to many different countries as well as all but one of the U.S. states on trips with cherished friends and family. He never shied from a challenge such as riding the zip line in Costa Rica at age 80. Bob was very much of the opinion if you can read, you can learn to do anything. He was not afraid to take on any task, but only with perfection the end product. He had no patience with sloppy results. His motto was "If it is worth doing, it is worth doing right". He often imparted words of wisdom to his grandsons who desire to honor his memory by living with dignity as their grandpa so wisely demonstrated every day. Bob was a fighter with many health issues but would not give up until he realized there was no way to repair his worn out lungs and heart. He was still giving instructions to the very end and thanked Dr. McKenna for all his compassion and care. He was also very appreciative to all the health care providers over the years. Bob was preceded in death by parents, a sister Lois Hoffman and brother Melvin Kretzler. Bob leaves a legacy of integrity, honesty and honor to his wife of 56 years Glyna; daughter Sandra Matott and grandsons Robert Tanner Matott and Wyatt William Matott of Midland; son Randal Kretzler and wife Jo; granddaughters, Charlotte James Kretzler and Riley Mae Kretzler of Austin; one brother Stanley Kretzler and wife Mary of Midland; one sister Marilyn Christy and husband Jim of Fountain Valley, California as well as many dearly loved in-laws, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Memorials may be directed to the MS Society, Grace Presbyterian Church, Clearfork Baptist Church in Hawley, TX or ones favorite charity. Family will receive friends on , 18, 2013 at Ellis between the hours of 6:00pm and 8:00pm. Graveside service will be held on , 19, 2013 at 9:30 at Resthaven Memorial Park, followed by a memorial service at 11:00am at Grace Presbyterian Church. Obituary: ARLINGTON -- At 4:10 p.m. on , 11, 2012, our daughter, sister, auntie, niece, granddaughter, cousin, best friend and friend, Sara Elizabeth Kretz, left us. The Sara Boo Sarcoma Foundation (501c3) In honor of Saras courageous fight against Sarcoma, we have created a non-profit organization as her legacy. As she did in this world, Sara will continue to help and support those who need it most. There is much that has been learned from Sara and her fight with Sarcoma. She continuously surprised and amazed specialists, doctors, nurses, and those that worked to help her in her fight. Saras type of cancer, Sarcoma, is rare and it attacked Sara very suddenly and aggressively. During her courageous fight, there were many difficulties, challenges, and hurdles faced to find help and obtain resources to wage her war. This was in part due to Saras youth, the lack of resources for individuals so young, the rareness and unknowns of Sarcoma, and the aggressive nature of which Sara was attacked by the cancer. Due to the lengthy application and approval process of governmental programs of which she was entitled, she still had not been approved for some of the programs which may have helped when she passed. If it is your wish to send flowers, please do so. However, it was Saras wish through her giving spirit that others facing the same difficulties she endured would somehow benefit. Therefore, her family has started the Sara Boo Sarcoma Foundation to assist the needs of those still bravely fighting this rare form of cancer. Donations in Saras honor can be made by clicking www.facebook.com/pages/Sara-Boo-Sarcoma-Foundation/186907521421338 (You do not need a Facebook Account). Then click the "Click Here" tab in Facebook, and the site will guide you from there. Donations may also be sent by check or money order to Jonathan Kretz at 7137 Kickapoo Dr., Fort Worth, TX 76179. She lived, laughed, and loved us with all her heart. Sara will forever be in our thoughts and heart. You are the best Sara in the whole wide universe!! |
