Obituary: Edward Stanley Kraus, 58, passed away peacefully in his sleep at his home on morning, 6th. He is survived by his wife Joanne; his sons, Jeremy and Daniel; their wives, Larisa and Emily; and his grandchildren, Tess, Elijah, Virginia, and Aaron Edward Kraus. He also leaves behind two brothers, Robert and Harry; and his mother Geraldine Toorans. Ed was born and raised in San Leandro, California. He graduated from Pacific High School before attending San Jose State University. college, Ed began a career with the Southland Corporation. He served as director of their 7-Eleven® training center in San Diego before moving to Dallas to work in the international department where he oversaw 7-Eleven® expansion in various countries during his tenure including Japan, Australia, and Hong Kong. sixteen years with the Southland Corporation, Ed went into business with his brothers and started Medex Surgical, an orthopedic implant and medical device distributorship serving Texas. He met the woman of his dreams and proposed nine days later. He and Joanne shared thirty-six wonderful years of marriage, countless joyous moments, and laid the foundation of a lasting legacy through their children and grandchildren. From a young age his peers admired and respected him, making him high school student body president and co-captain of the football team. In an era when weightlifting was not mainstream, he sculpted a body that earned him notoriety and recognition as best physique in school. Despite these accolades, to know Ed was to love him. He remained grounded, friendly, and approachable. Fast Eddy, as he was affectionately known by his friends, was famous for living life to its fullest. He was as comfortable befriending the locals in a seaside Tijuana lobster shack as he was firing the Noonday Gun in Hong Kong Harbor with dignitaries. He loved the beach, especially the La Jolla Cove. Eddy was a great host, who was always eager to make room for one more at his table. He never shied away from pointing out the significance of a moment. He was known as a great communicator, who expressed his feelings with rare authenticity. Throughout his life, he loved to teach, no matter whether it was teaching Hebrew to school students at Temple Shalom, store operations to new 7-Eleven® franchisees, or sales techniques to new orthopedic sales representatives. services for Ed will be held on 8th, 2010 at 11:00 AM at Temple Shalom in Dallas. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that any memorials be made to the Jacob and Lena Ponsky Scholarship Fund, the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society, or the Muscular Dystrophy Association.

Obituary: Beloved mother, grandmother, and sister Ruth Jane (Wahl) Kratus passed away peacefully on 17, 2016 in Dallas, Texas. She is survived by her brother, Donald Wahl, by her son, John and his wife Kathy Walsh, by her daughter Lynn Snoyer and her husband Jeff, and by Lynn and Jeffs children, Emma Slagh and husband Christopher, Diana Acevedo and husband Chad, and Clara Snoyer. Ruths younger brother, Richard Wahl, predeceased her. Ruth Kratus is remembered for her love of life and generosity of spirit.

Ruth was born on 7, 1930 in Buffalo, New York. Her parents, Frederick and Emma Wahl, ran a bakery in Buffalo, and the family lived above the bakery. As a teenager, Ruth sang Beautiful Dreamer on a local radio stations talent show. In 1951 Ruth married the boy next door, John A. Kratus, who, along with his older brother, owned a small grocery store.

Ruth and John ran the grocery store for 25 years, and between the two of them, they worked every day of the year, except Christmas. It was a difficult life operating a small family-owned store in an increasingly dangerous neighborhood. The couple had three children, John, Thomas, and Lynn, and saved enough money to buy a home in the nearby suburb of Tonawanda.

Education was very important to Ruth and John, because neither had had the opportunity to attend college. In fact John, the youngest of 13 children, left school at 14 to help his brother in the grocery store. The couple stressed education at home, teaching their children to read and identify obscure places on a big map of the world even before kindergarten. Later in life, Ruths husband, John, got his GED and graduated college with a degree in business. During that time, Ruth ran the grocery store by herself, an example of her selflessness in helping others achieve their dreams.

In 1976 John and Ruth moved to Dallas and bought a tiny appliance store, Wellbornes, in Oak Cliff. were joined in the business by son Tom and later daughter Lynn. Over the next few years, Welbornes grew to be a successful appliance and furniture store in Dallas. Then tragedy struck. Within the space of three years, 1983 to 1986, Ruths husband, John, and son, Tom, died. Ruth cared for her son nearly 24 hours a day during the two years of his illness.

Ruths indomitable spirit helped her through these difficult times. She became the Mom for the 75 employees at Welbornes, playing on their bowling team, attending their weddings and birthday parties, and running the store more like a family than a business. She also delighted in her role as GaGa (grandmother) to her grandchildren Emma, Diana, and Clara Snoyer. She helped build a craft room for them, went on trips together, and came to all of their school activities.

In her 60s Ruth fully embraced life. She learned to ski and took tap dance classes. As a dancer she performed with her class at the Majestic Theater and the State Fair of Texas. She joined Bible Study Fellowship, she traveled to Europe and Mexico, and she fervently rooted for the Dallas Cowboys, Texas Rangers, and Dallas Stars. She was known for her numerous acts of kindness and generosity toward others.

In the last years of her life, Ruth suffered from Alzheimers, which robbed her of her memories but not of her dignity, compassion, and love of life. The Kratus, Snoyer, and Wahl families are especially appreciative of the love and care Ruth received in her final years at Monticello West.

The family will receive friends at Sparkman/Hillcrest , 7405 Northwest Highway, Dallas, from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. on , 21. A funeral mass with he held at Holy Trinity Catholic Church, 3811 Oak Lawn Ave, Dallas at 10:00 a.m. on , 22. In lieu of flowers, the family asks those who remember Ruth to do a andom act of kindness for someone in Ruths memory.
