Obituary: Col. Orin Irwin Snoopy Knutson, USAF Retired, passed away , 21, 2016, in San Antonio, TX, of complications following a fall. Orin was born in Kensett, Iowa, on 23 1935, to Orin Arthur Knutson and Mary Anna Ingmu Arendts. Orin attended East High School in Des Moines, Iowa, where he met his first wife, Joy Stookey. While in high school, Orin worked every summer for the Rock Island Railroad and for local construction companies. Orin and Joy married 6 1956 in Des Moines while Orin was attending Iowa State University, and they soon started their family with a baby boy. Orin joined the Air Force in of 1959 and received his B.A. degree from Drake University the following . Orin next attended Flight School, graduating as a pilot at the top of his class. He loved flying and first served as a Flight Instructor at Webb AFB in Big Spring, Texas. It was there that two daughters were added to the family. In of 1965, Orin went to Vietnam where he flew a C-123 for a 13-month tour. Orin began flying what came to be his favorite airplane: the RF-4C Phantom II, which he continued to fly until his retirement. The family was stationed at Langley AFB in Virginia when the youngest son was born. arrived in Austin in 1974 when Orin was stationed at Bergstrom AFB, serving as the Squadron Commander for the 12th Tactical Reconnaissance Squadron. In 1980, Orin was stationed at Ramstein AFB, Germany, where he served as the Director of Reconnaissance for the USAF-Europe. a year there, Orin was stationed at Zweibrucken AFB, Germany, where he was 26th Wing Deputy Commander for Operations. Orins last station was a return to Langley AFB. He was a lifetime member of the Order of the Daedalians and the Air Force Association. During his Air Force career, Orin was awarded the Legion of Merit, Distinguished Flying Cross, Bronze Star Medal, Meritorious Service Medal with two oak leaf clusters, Air Medal with sixteen oak leaf clusters, Air Force Outstanding Unit Award with three oak leaf clusters, Combat Readiness Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal with one bronze star, Air Force Overseas Ribbon, Air Force Longevity Service Award Ribbon with five oak leaf clusters, Small Arms Expert Marksmanship Ribbon, Republic of Vietnam Gallantry Cross, and Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal with device. retirement, Orin attended SWTSU, earning a degree in accounting, during which time Orin and Joy divorced. He worked as the State Auditor for the Texas State Auditors Office. He married Aida Belcher on 6 May 1989, and they just recently celebrated their 27th anniversary. He retired for a second time, and Orin and Aida filled their time traveling, working at the ranch, taking classes, doing volunteer work, and spending time with their children and grandchildren. Orin was preceded in death by his parents and by his siblings and their spouses: his brother Maurice Knutson [Evelyn], and his sisters, Beverly Stoops [Jerry] and Mary Ann Olsen [George]. He is succeeded by: wife, Aida Knutson, of San Antonio; son, James Knutson and wife, Elaine, of Austin; daughter, Tracy Simmons and husband, Gordon, of Richmond Hill, Georgia; daughter, Valerie Bradshaw and husband, Nathan, of Pflugerville; son, John Knutson, of Austin; stepson, Andy Hartsock and wife, Christina, of Austin; and stepdaughter, Faun Lee and husband, David, of Westminster, Colorado. Left to mourn his passing are his grandchildren: Troy Knutson and wife Megan, Eric Knutson, Kevin Knutson, Elizabeth Simmons, Erin Simmons, Nathan Bradshaw, Brandon Bradshaw, Gibson Hartsock, and Emma Hartsock; and 3 great-grandchildren, Brandon, Jaylon, and Braydon Bradshaw. Memorial services for Orin will be held 6 Sep 2016 at 1000 Hrs at Christ the King Lutheran Church, 1129 Pat Booker Rd, Universal City, TX, with reception to follow. Interment will be held at Ft Sam Houston National , 1520 Harry Wurzbach Rd, San Antonio, TX 78209 at 1300 Hrs. Obituary: Knutson, Lyle Signor Retired Master Sgt. Lyle Signor Knutson, age 96 of Seguin, became an angel on 1, 2015. Visitation will be held on , 6, 2015 at Goetz from 5 to 8 pm. services will be held on , 7, 2015 at 2:00 pm at Emanuels Lutheran Church in Seguin. Interment will follow in Guadalupe Valley Memorial Park. Lyle was born on 22, 1919 to Alvin Knutson and Jennie (Moen) Knutson in Iola, Wisconsin. He was baptized and confirmed in the Scandinavia Lutheran Church in Wisconsin. He graduated from Scandinavia Union Free High School in 1939. Upon graduation he went to work for the Civilian Conservation Corps (CCCs) which was a depression era project of President Franklin D. Roosevelt. He then worked for the Pacific Railroad before joining the Army Air Corps in 1941. Lyle served for 20 ½ years in the Air Force. During his service he was on their ski team. He did cross country skiing and ski jumping, winning a second place trophy in 1952. Before retiring he was an instructor for the Air Force for two years in Washington State at Fairchild Air Force Base. He was a World War II veteran and a Korean War Veteran. The medals he received during his service were Korean Medal, National Defense Service Medal, American Theater Ribbon, Victory Medal and the Korean Service Medal. Lyle was a life member of H.U. Wood American Legion Post #245, a life member of the VFW Post 8456, member of the Herman Sons #137, member of the National Rifle Assoc., and a graduate of Strategic Air Command N.C.O. Academy in England. He is preceded in death by his parents Alvin and Jennie Knutson, brother Don Knutson, and son in-law Allan Ray Moltz. Lyle is survived by the love of his life, Rosa Lee (Gotthardt) Knutson of 70 years, whom he married on Dec. 9, 1944. His is also survived by his daughters Charlene (Sherry) Moltz; Susan Ludewig and husband Richard as well as his grandchildren Janine Moltz, Todd Moltz and Shaun Ludewig and great-granddaughter Alexis Moltz. He also leaves behind his sister-in-laws Myrtle Voss, Hedwig "Happy" Hooper and Adeline Brannan and numerous nieces, nephews and many friends. Obituary: Jacqueline L. Knutson, age 85, died on 17th, 2014 at Baywood Crossing in Pasadena, Texas. She was born on May 13, 1929, in Bartlesville, Oklahoma, to Jesse Walton and Minnie Pearl Atkinson. Jackie was married to Alcum David Knutson on May 14, 1949 in Borger, Texas. Throughout her life, she enjoyed cooking for others and following her beloved Houston Astros baseball team. She had been employeed with the Deer Park ISD and worked at Carpenter Elementary cafeteria for several years. her time there, she became the manager of Carls Malt N Burger in Deer Park. She attended School and church at San Jacinto Baptist Church. Her husband and sister Shirley Webb preceded her in death. She is survived by her two sons, Arthur David, spouse Linda, and Donald Wayne, spouse Janette Knutson; and survived by her brother Franklin and spouse Joyce Atkinson. She was graced with ten grandchildren and spouses, Vanessa and Thomas Peden, Rachel and Eric Twardowski, Thomas and Karen Knutson, Nathan and Christine Knutson, and David and Kelli Davis; and ten great-grandchildren, Jenna and Margo Wagner, Alexander Peden, Wade and Kate Twardowski, Cole and Kaitlyn Knutson, Drew, Benjamin, and Henry Davis. Ivan helped run his family's Knutson Dairy Farm prior to joining the USAF where he would spend 24 years serving as an Avionic Weapon Delivery System technician and superintendent on various aircraft's including the B 52s. One of his duty tours took him to Thailand where he met and married his wife Sumol "Su" in 1974. As a skilled electronic technician, Ivan began his second 20-year career with IXC communication, formerly West Texas Microwave, just two days after his retirement from the Air Force. Ivan is survived by his wife, Sumol Knutson; sister and brother-in-law, Somboon and Chin Keeragool; nieces and nephews, Chutima Keeragool, Apple and Chris Dore, North Keeragool; and great-niece, Annaliese Dore all of Abilene; brothers, Harrold and Kenneth Knutson; his sister, Carol Williams; and several nieces and nephews all of California. |
