Obituary: District Judge Emeritus, Carol Haberman Knight-Sheen, was a loving wife, mother, and grandmother throughout her many years of service to her family and the community. She passed away 22, 2008. Born in Whitelaw, Wisconsin, she lived in Texas for more than 50 years. In , 2001 she married J. Philip Knight-Sheen, President of MEDREC, a beloved husband who survives her. We will miss her humor, joy, great mind and character tremendously. She was previously married to Rudy A. Haberman for nearly 40 years, who predeceased her in 1994. He was a well-known businessman and hotel manager. She is survived by two sons, R. A. Haberman, and wife Pat, and Howard Haberman: two step-sons Chris Knight-Sheen and wife Niamh, and Peter Knight-Sheen and wife Megan. Also grandchildren; Kristin Harrison, Danny Haberman and wife Melaine, Jeanie Collier and husband David, Amalie, Berkley and Cohen Knight-Sheen; and great grandchildren: Madison and Chase Collier, and Allie and Katie Haberman. Other survivors from Wisconsin include her brothers John Rhode and wife Joyce, and Richard Rhode and wife Mary Ann; cousins, Don and Toni Rhode, Marian and Bernard Detri, Dorie Stelzer and many nieces & nephews. Carol Haberman was the first female District Judge in Bexar , Texas and served for 30 years, first as a Court-at-Law Judge and later was appointed District Judge, by Governor Dolph Briscoe. She served on the San Antonio City Council, and as Mayor Pro Tem, and was chairman of Alamo Area Council of Governments. She served on the Board of Trustees at St. Marys University and chaired the Equestrian Order of the Holy Sepulchre in San Antonio and was the First Lady of the Alzafar Shrine ; also past Governor of District Nine, Altrusa International, Texas State President of Business and Professional Women, and past president of San Antonio Womens Federation. She was a lifelong Catholic but received many awards from all groups such as the National Council of Jewish Women in the 1970s and the Community Builders Award from the Freemasons Grand Lodge of Texas in 2002. In 2003 she was honored as the distinguished graduate of St. Marys University. She received the Silver Beaver from the Boy Scouts of America, the Paul Harris Award from the Rotary Club of San Antonio, and the Presidents Award from the S.A. Womens Bar Association. She was honored during the l00th celebration of the 45th District Court. She was also recognized by the USAF Thunderbirds, as a member of the Chargin Cheetahs. She volunteered at the Baptist Hospital for a number of years and was active in numerous other groups improving all aspects of life in San Antonio. The family would like to thank Dr. David Gordon, Paula Livechi and Janie Esquivel, and the staff of Stone Oak for their professional and compassionate care. He is survived by his devoted and loving wife of 58 years ,Carol Adams Knight; two children, daughter, Cynthia Bailey & husband Harold; and son, William Craig Knight; three granddaughters, Jessica Zigmont & husband Bruce,Tiffany Holbert & husband Derrick and Taylor Knight; four great grandchildren, Andrew Zigmont, Brenden Zigmont, Shelby Holbert and Dillon Holbert; sister-in-law, Thelma Knight and a host of nieces and nephews . He is preceded in death by his father and mother Turner Otto and Mary Ethel Knight; sisters, Jessie Mae Everette and Lillie Mae Carpenter and brother, JW Knight. Among his hobbies he loved to hunt and fish. He loved to spend time with his grandkids and great grandkids and play with all their toys .He also loved to play solitary and duck hunt on the Nintendo. He loved Alabama football,Texans, Astros and Wrestling. Otto was many things to many people, a son, brother, father, grandfather, great grandfather and friend, but also a proud veteran of the United States Air Force and employee of Southern Pacific Railroad and yet many other things as well. Otto was a simple man who enjoyed the company of his family and friends . He enjoyed the little things that made life worth living and his great grand kids toys and electronics .
