Obituary: Dave Weldon Kittrell, MD, was born on 8, 1948 at Mother Frances Hospital in Tyler, Texas. When asked about his place of birth, Dr. Dave always said, Born in Tyler, raised in Dallas. He was an unabashed lover of his native state, an extraordinary historian and an ever-willing tour guide for family and friends who came to visit San Antonio. He was a true Texan with no bias. He represented Trinity University BA, The University of Texas Medical Branch at Galveston MD and Texas A&M of Medicine at Scott and White Memorial Hospital where he completed his residency in Obstetrics and Gynecology. He was a proud Diplomat of the American Board of Obstetrics and Gynecology and a Fellow of the American of Obstetricians and Gynecologists. He began his private practice in San Antonio in 1979. The walls of his office are papered with the photos of the thousands of babies he helped bring into the world and in recent years, represent multiple generations of families. He was an unapologetic advocate of any womans rights to excellent medical care, whatever her circumstances. Politics and especially the politics of medicine, was his avocation. He was a quiet man, but found his voice when he saw the threats to the future of medicine. He served at the local, county, state and national level across multiple boards and associations. He was a member of the San Antonio Oak Hills Rotary Club and a Paul Harris Fellow. As a member of the Board of Directors of the Bexar Medical Society for ten years, he served the last two as Treasurer. He served on the Council on Legislation of the Texas Medical Association for nine years and as a consultant to the TMA Professional Liability Committee. As a past president of the Texas Association of Obstetricians and Gynecologists, he served on the TAOG Executive Council and as Chairman of the Texas Section, District VII ACOG. He found a second home on the Texas Medical Liability Trust Board of Governors. He served on this board from 1989 to 1998, was reappointed in 2001 and served until his death. He was elected Secretary-Treasurer, Vice Chairman and Chairman of the Board at different times for twelve of those years. More than all these titles, Dave loved Dad and Grandpa the most. His friends and family knew him as a compassionate, devoted, encouraging, generous man. Dave died unexpectedly on , 2, 2010. Left to grieve his passing but joyful in the knowledge of eternal life in Christ are his beloved wife, Pamela Jane Peden Kittrell; his precious daughters, Carrie Kittrell Carroll and her children, Blake and Rylee; Carla Kittrell Wilkins and her husband, Christopher Wilkins and their daughter, Ella; Catherine Kittrell Bridger and her husband, Brian and their son, Owen; youngest daughter Caroline Jane Kittrell and his only son, Daniel Weldon Kittrell. Daves love and caring was cherished by his father and mother-in-law, Dr. Wendell and Carol Peden. He also leaves a brother, John Robert Kittrell and wife, Sandy and an extended family of many nieces, nephews, cousins and in-laws including all the Aunties who loved him so. He was preceded in death by his parents, Bailey Weldon and Evelyn Lambert Kittrell, and infant brother and his first wife, Jan Hensel Kittrell. Dave was always thankful for the friendships he made, the physicians he worked with, the nursing staff of the hospitals he worked in and the gifts he was afforded in this life. MEMORIAL VISITATION

Obituary: Phyllis Mae Sour Kitterman passed away peacefully in her sleep on 27, 2017 after a long battle with Alzheimers. Phyllis was born 10, 1929 in Bryant, South Dakota. There were eight children in her family - four girls and four boys, although one of her sisters died as an infant. The seven siblings did what they could to help their parents survive the Great Depression, brutal Dakota winters, and other hardships on their farm. As a very young girl Phyllis and her older sister were each charged with caring for one of their twin brothers. At 14, she moved to town to attend school and while there she found a job as a waitress in the local café. She studied bookkeeping, typing and shorthand in high school and after graduating, joined her sister in Alameda, California and worked at the U.S. Naval Air Station. At 19, she married U.S. Marine Layton Kitterman, whom she met on the base. She worked to put him through college at the University of Tulsa. he graduated, they lived in Shreveport briefly where daughters Susan and Christi were born, then moved to Dallas in 1958 where daughter Karen was born. In Dallas, Phyllis enjoyed being a member of the Garden Club, assisting with her daughters activities such as music, dance, scouting and swimming, and she enjoyed being a full-time homemaker. She loved to cook for her family but like her own mother, rarely sat down to meals herself until everyone else was starting dessert. In 1970 she went to work for U.T. Southwestern Medical School in the pathology department. twenty-two years at U.T. Southwestern, she retired as a Senior Secretary and began taking painting and piano classes, joined a book club, volunteered in politics, and enjoyed her garden and birds. She always made time for her three granddaughters activities such as soccer, school programs and music recitals. Whenever consulted about her daughters or granddaughters future plans, she would offer her little smile, stretch herself an inch taller and affirm, You can be anything you want to be. She believed 110 percent in those she loved.
She wanted nothing less than that the whole world believed in her loved ones, too. Normally quiet and unassuming, Phyllis was fiercely loyal and would stand down offenders like a mother bear, or maybe a mother bobcat. She was also a champion of the underdog, whether it be a person or unpopular cause. A supporter of the environment her entire life, she always hung her laundry on a line. She recycled her cans before the city had a system for it. She used a walk-behind, push reel mower on her lawn. She began utilizing native plants in her garden and joined the Native Plant Society of Texas and the Heard Museum of McKinney to support these causes. All creatures were precious to her and many, many birds and small mammals sought out the welcoming backyard with the huge trees kept by the tiny woman with the big heart. A heart so big it took up most of her 100 pounds. And she offered it without any strings or conditions.
Phyllis is survived by siblings Richard Sour (Suzanne), Chuck Sour (Betty), Jerry Sour (Marilynn) and Marlys Popham (Gene); her daughters Susan Patton, Christi OConnor and Karen Huston (Marshall); her granddaughters Jennifer Huston, Angela Huston Smith (Joe) and Hailey Huston Jeter (Eugene); and four great-granddaughters Emmalyn Smith, Matilda Smith, Clementine Jeter and Violet Jeter, as well as numerous nieces and nephews and extended family members. She loved them all.
Phyllis is preceded in death by her beloved parents, Robert and Evelyn Sour, brother Larry Sour, and sisters Marilyn Sour and Donna Truman.
The family would like to convey their appreciation for the exceptional care Mom received at Walnut Place. We would like to especially thank Beverly, Van and Jerry for the special attention they showed Mom.
In lieu of flowers, a contribution to the Alzheimers Association would be appreciated.
