Obituary: Gerry Rosemary Calvano Kisling set sail for her true homeland on 7, 2015. She was born in New Jersey in 1927 and spent her childhood on the island of Aruba (back before anyone knew about it), where her father was an engineer for Esso. At college in South Carolina at age 19, she met a dashing young Army officer and they were married within a month (an impulsive act for which she would have clobbered any of her four children). It was a union that lasted more than 66 years and 30 moves, the final of which was to Corpus Christi (Body of Christ), Texas. That made consummate sense, since she was a lifelong devoted Catholic and faithful member of St. Paul the Apostle Catholic Church in Flour Bluff for many years. During this very mobile life, she earned her RN and bachelors and masters degrees in nursing, with an emphasis in public health. She eventually returned to the classroom as a teacher and for many years served as the University Nurse for CCSU, which she called her dream job. Upon retirement, she volunteered as a mediator for the court system, as an ombudsman for a local nursing home, in the food pantry at St. Paul, and as a helper at the public library, which gave her first pick of the new arrivals. She was a voracious reader, a ruthless crossword enthusiast, and a regular at the Y pool. The pillars of her day were daily mass and then breakfast at El Mesquite, where she would get started on the first of her many puzzles. A woman of exacting standards, she was the terror of every waiter in Nueces . She leaves us to join her husband, Richard, and her parents, Marie and Nicholas Calvano, who crossed the horizon ahead of her. She will be sorely missed by her four children—Mary, Richard Jr., Christopher, Kathryn—and their families; sister, Patricia Wolfe and husband, Dick; brother- and sisters-in-law, David and Sally Kisling, Marian Kisling; and the rest of the extended family, including numerous nieces and nephews, eight grandchildren, and six great-grandchildren. The family extends special fond thanks to her dear friends Ann Coudert and Sonia DeLaGarza, Robert Dalrymple, the church supper club, the wonderful Ritter family, Fr. Peter Martinez, and the good Samaritan who helped Mom to the hospital on . In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Hands of Mercy ministry at St. Paul or to the Food Bank of Corpus Christi, or that you leave an outrageous tip for your next longsuffering waitperson. A Rosary will be held at 9:30 a.m. on , 12, 2015 at St. Paul the Apostle Catholic Church in Flour Bluff followed by a Memorial Mass to be held at 10:00 a.m. |

Obituary: Barbara F. Kishpaugh, Colonel, U.S. Army Retired died in San Antonio, TX on , 27th. She served 30 years in the Army Nurse Corps during the World War II, Korean and Viet Nam eras. Her decorations include 2 Legions of Merit, 3 Bronze Stars and 4 Army Commendation medals. Col Kishpaugh was a 1940 graduate of Central High School, Battle Creek, MI, a 1944 graduate of Michael Reese Hospital School of , Chicago, IL, and held a BSN from the University of Colorado, magna cum laude and a masterÂs degree from Duke University, Durham, NC, sumna cum laude. Barbara was a member and deacon of First Presbyterian Church , member of the planning committee of Army Residence Community and remained on the board of directors until the present time, board member of Sisters , of San Antonio, Legal Guardian through Bexar Probate Courts of persons and estates for several incapacitated persons, former member of the board of Morningside Ministries, Treasurer and board member of Army Nurse Corps Association, member of the board of Habitat for Humanity and supervised construction of several houses built by women. In 1974, she was made an honorary Kentucky Colonel by Governor Wendell Ford for service to the people of Kentucky after a disastrous tornado there. She was given a Liberty Bell Award in 1997 by the San Antonio Young Lawyer Association. Barbara was a very warm and caring person who devoted most of her time to doing things and caring for other people. She will be greatly missed, as she volunteered for many things too numerous to list. She is survived by a sister, Frances Henning, New Braunfels, TX; sister-in-law Shirley Kishpaugh, Parchment, MI and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her brother Richard S. Visitation will be 6:00 p.m.- 8:00 p.m., , 20, 2015 at Moore-Rose in Lockney. are under the care of Moore-Rose in Lockney. Ruby Louise Ransom was born 27th, 1922 to Dock Luellen Ransom and Minnie Gertrude Slay in Tehuacana Texas. Ruby was baptized at an early age and was married to Walter Kiser at 19. lived in many areas of Texas where Walter did Sharecropping during the first part of their married life. Ruby was a Wife, Mother and a Jill of all trades. Professionally, she held positions as a Bus Driver, Beautician, Seamstress, Nurses Aid with Lockney and Director of Housekeeping as well as a Nurses Aide at Mangold Memorial Hospital. Dr. Mangold saw that she had a real talent in that field and encouraged her to pursue her LVN license. She continued her career as an LVN at Mangold Memorial until she retired in 1995. From there, she worked in her Church nursery until her health would not allow. She was preceded in death by her father, mother, five sisters and six brothers. She leaves to mourn two brothers, Rev. Wilford Ransom & Bish. Leonard Ransom, one adopted son, Nebbie N. Nash, three daughters, Alma Parker, Jonnell Echols & adopted daughter, Delois Moore, eleven grandchildren, seven great grandchildren and a host of cousins, nephews and nieces. She will be dearly missed by all of her family and friends. |
