Obituary: Renate Kahn (née Fulda) died of natural causes at her home on 18, 2015. She was born in Kassel, Germany in 1926. She immigrated in 1939 to Dallas with her parents and brother fleeing Nazi Germany just months prior to the start of WWII. Renate always felt indebted to the Jewish community of Dallas for helping her refugee family with starting over in their new country. Renate graduated from Woodrow Wilson High School in 1943 and Southern Methodist University in 1947 with a Bachelors Degree in Accounting. Renate was among a small number of women who had graduated from the business school and also among the first women to earn her Texas CPA certificate. She practiced public accounting until her retirement. Renate volunteered on the boards of various organizations as treasurer including the Dallas Chamber Music Society, the Dallas chapter of the National Council of Jewish Women, and her childrens school PTA. Renate married Karl H. Kahn in 1949, and they lived fulfilling lives together. raised three daughters in Dallas, while Renate practiced accounting, and Karl traveled through Texas and New Mexico for business. Renate came from a family that enjoyed playing classical chamber music. Her family would get together with friends to play music weekly. Renate was an amateur violinist and continued her familys tradition. She played in SMUs student orchestra in high school and college. She met Karl due to their familys' mutual appreciation for music. She then put the violin down for 35 years until retirement, after which she started playing the violin again, performing with various ensembles in the Dallas area and with the Mesquite Symphony Orchestra. It was a pleasure getting together with Karl and friends to play quartets and quintets at somebodys home like she had during her youth. Renate enjoyed listening to classical music as a long-time subscriber of the Dallas Symphony Orchestra, Dallas Opera and Dallas Chamber Music Society. She also enjoyed attending many wonderful performances of teachers and students at the Aspen Summer Music School. Renate loved travel, visiting numerous countries throughout her long life. She truly loved Colorado, going to visit during her honeymoon, taking her young family to Rocky Mountain National Park for many vacations, tolerating some ski trips in the winter, and summering there after retirement. Renate enjoyed attending week-long music programs from Elderhostel as a retiree. Learning English upon arriving in the U.S., Renate kept her fluency of German, as well as becoming fluent in Spanish. She enjoyed playing bridge, with Holy her day to play each week for over 60 years. She loved solving crossword puzzles in pen, watching the Dallas Cowboys on TV, and talking on the phone to her friends. She was the unofficial adopted mother of many of her daughters girlfriends, always there when needed. Renate lived life happily, always taking things in stride. She will be greatly missed and fondly remembered as a woman with a huge heart. Renate is survived by her husband, Karl H. Kahn, married for 66 wonderful years. She is also survived by her children, Trudy Kahn of Boulder, CO and Nancy Kahn (Dennis Levin) of Glenwood Springs, CO. She is survived by her brother, Steven Fulda, of Basking Ridge, NJ, and nephews Gordon Fulda (Lynelle Schneeberg) of Fairfield, CT, Andrew Fulda of Clinton, NJ, and niece, Mariane Fulda Browne of Morristown, NJ, in addition to seven great-nephews and great-nieces. Obituary: Karl H. Kahn, 94, died of natural causes at his home on 21, 2016. Born in Baden-Baden, Germany in 1921, Karl moved to England in 1936 where he finished school. Fleeing WWII, Karl left England in 1939 to begin a new life in Dallas. That year he was instrumental in assisting his parents escape Nazi Germany. Karl entered the U.S. Army in 1942 and served as a staff sergeant for 3-1/2 years at Fort McClellan in Anniston, Alabama. He became proficient at light arms fire but excelled in office management, where he kept the paper chaos of the regimental headquarters office under control. He and Renate made a loving home with enough commotion to make life interesting, rewarding and fulfilling. Karl loved Colorado, first visiting on his honeymoon and then taking his young family to Rocky Mountain National Park for many vacations. As his daughters grew older, he began to take them on ski vacations every year. He finally put his skis away for good at the age of 80. Karl's lust for travel took him to numerous countries and six continents for many family vacations. Photography was a hobby as well as gardening, and he was especially proud of cultivating African violets. He liked keeping up with current events, discussing them as often as possible. Karl was always welcoming and charming with old and new friends alike with his witty conversation. He entertained friends with outdoor barbecues and margaritas by the pool. He was famous among his friends for barbecuing chickens. He enjoyed joining his lunch bunch at Kubys for over 25 years. He was a dog lover, rescuing his pets from animal shelters. A classical music enthusiast who played violin in his youth, in retirement, Karl loved playing chamber music with Renate and friends. Although an amateur, he performed with the Mesquite Symphony Orchestra and various ensembles in the Dallas area. Karl also played the viola in quartets and quintets in his or other performers homes. Karl and Renate were long-time subscribers to the Dallas Symphony Orchestra, the Dallas Opera and the Dallas Chamber Music Society. Karl and Renate traveled to Colorado in the summer for many years to perform in Elderhostel music programs. also enjoyed attending performances at the Aspen Music Festival each summer. Karl will be dearly missed and fondly remembered as a true gentleman. Karl is predeceased by his wife, Renate Fulda Kahn; his parents, Paul and Gertrud Kahn; and his oldest daughter, Doris Kahn.
