Obituary: Ralph Waite Kobs, 76, of McLeansville, died , 11, 2010 at Wesley Long Community Hospital after a brief illness. He was born 2, 1934, in Toledo Ohio, to the late John & Margaret Kobs. Ralph moved with his family first to California and then onto Dundee Florida to join his grandparents and the family business of orange groves. He played football for Haines City High School for four years where he was a well known fullback. At 17, Ralph joined the U.S. Navy Reserves and after graduating in 1954 he became active duty and served until of 1959. During his course of duty he considered it a privilege to have been a part of two separate six-month expeditions to the South Pole on the freighter, USS Wyandot. During his military service he was stationed in Norfolk Virginia where he met his future wife Brona Lowe. marriage, the couple made their home in Greensboro, where they welcomed the birth of their first child, Karen Denise, in May of 1958. welcomed a second daughter, Katherine Louise, in of 1960. In of 1969 they purchased a home in McLeansville where he resided until his passing. Ralph was a machinist by trade and was employed by Newman Machine from whence he retired after 35 years. During many of these years he was engaged in his first love, the culinary arts, which included short order cook, sous chef, baker, pastry chef, and master chef at the following establishments: Sammys Restaurant, The Carriage House, Pilot Life Country Club, Jefferson Standard Country Club and Greensboro Country Club. From 1999 through 2003 Ralph worked as a security guard for several companies. Up until his disability he was an avid hunter and fisherman and mentor to many generations. He was a Christian and loving son, brother, husband, father, and Papa to two grandchildren and three great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by both parents, his eldest daughter Karen Denise Kobs, and his younger brother Martin John Kobs. He is survived by his wife Brona Lowe Kobs; daughter and son-in-law, Kathy & Gil Yonashiro, of Henderson NV; granddaughter, Sandi Coon White, her husband Jason and three children, of Walkertown; Grandson, William Grant Coon, partner Katherin Lazar and one child, of Julian; son-in-law William Coon, of Greensboro; sister Madelyn Kobs Griggs, and family, of Haines City Fl; sister Gail Kobs Strickland, and family, of Haines City Fl. and the surviving family of his brother Marty also of Haines City Fl. Also surviving are many sisters- and brothers-in-law, nieces, nephews, grand nieces and grand nephews as well as many loving friends. |
