Obituary: Dacia Lewis King of Greensboro, N.C. died on , 23, 2010. A memorial service will be held at 2:00 , 29 in the sanctuary of First Presbyterian Church. Dacia was born 20, 1926 to Daphne Waters and Richard Henry Lewis. She graduated from Greensboro Senior High School in 1943 and attended the University of North Carolina-Greensboro. She received her Masters degree from Columbia University in New York City. three years on Guam working with arts as recreation, she began a career as a public school art teacher. On 27, 1960, she married Paul Noble King (her beloved P.K.) of Greensboro. Dacia and Paul lived in many areas of the country including Pueblo, Colorado, New Bern, N.C., Stamford, Connecticut and Columbia, S.C., before retiring in Greensboro. As a member of First Presbyterian Church, Dacia was a leader of the Adult Electives School Class, various arts groups, and the Currie Library Book Club. A gentle yet compassionate advocate for the arts, the environment, and sustainable agriculture, Dacia was a loyal supporter and board member of numerous organizations including, but hardly limited to, the Weatherspoon Art Museum, The for Education, Imagination and the Natural World, The Weston A. Price Foundation, The Rural Advancement Foundation-International-USA, Pickards Mountain Eco-Institute, Carolina Farms Stewardship Association, the Greensboro Library Art Committee, and the Eastern Music Festival. She was a life long learner who reached out to people of all ages and interests. Dacia was preceded in death by her husband Paul King, her sister Daphne Rudolph, and her devoted dog, Frosty. Dacia is survived by her sister Dora Lewis Lane (Paul) of Bloomington, Indiana, and sister-in-law Nancy King Smith of Davidson, N.C.. She is also survived by her loving nieces and nephews: Mary Mig McEntire of Greensboro, N.C., Graham Smith of Charlotte, N.C., Nancy Gardner of Davidson, N.C., Curtis Smith of Dallas, Texas, C. Shaw Smith, Jr. of Davidson, N.C., W. Winburne King III of Beaufort, N.C., Elizabeth K. Prickett of Atlanta, Georgia, Charles Y. King of Princeton, N.J., Daved Levitan of Dayton, Ohio and Daniel Levitan of Brooklyn, New York. In addition, she is survived by 17 grand nieces and nephews and 7 great-grand nieces and nephews. Cynthia was born on 27, 1954 in Thomasville, a daughter of the late Thelma Hill. Cindy was a loving mother to three sons, Jeremy and Anthony King of Sophia and Tom of Welcome, and a loving wife to her husband of 37 years, Anthony Tony King of the home. She was employed with Sechrest Service in High Point. Her faith was in God. In addition to her mother, she was preceded in death by her grandmother, Sally Mae Britt, a sister, Sally Goins and a grandson, Andrew Montana King. Obituary: Curtis Deaman King, Sr., 85, died at Wake Med. He was born in Garner and raised in Archer Lodge where he farmed and hauled produce. moving to Raleigh, he owned and operated several gas stations and later became an auto mechanic. Curtis had a passion for auto racing and raced in the 50s and 60s at local dirt tracks. He loved Nascar and rarely missed watching the races even after his eyesight began to fail. Curtis was a loving and devoted brother, father, grandfather and great-grandfather. He will be greatly missed. Surviving are his son, C.D. King, Jr. and wife Gayla of Wendell; sister, Patsy Ann Salmon of Apex; grandson, Curtis T. King of Rolesville; granddaughter, Jennifer Hurst and husband, Jason of Wendell; great-grandchildren, J.J. Obituary: Coleen Jeanette Coyle King, 90, of Charlotte, died 25, 2016, at Carillon Assisted Living in Cramerton, Gaston, North Carolina. The family will receive friends on , 1, 2016, at 2 pm at Mulberry Baptist Church, Charlotte, North Carolina, with a memorial service following at 3 pm. Interment will be at a later date at Oakland in Gaffney, South Carolina with a private graveside service. Coleen was born 4, 1926, in Gaffney, Cherokee, South Carolina. She was the daughter of Robert Alexander and Rosa Zelda McCraw Coyle. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her brothers, Lewis Winfred Coyle, Dever Coyle, Floyd Bob Coyle, Henry Burton Coyle, and by a sister, Helen Coyle Mosley. She graduated from Gaffney High School with the class of 1943. She was a member of Mulberry Baptist Church where she served as a church/financial secretary for 25 years. retirement, she continued to serve at the church in various positions of service. She had been a member of the Celebration choir and Senior Adult Choir and served in the Nursery and Preschool Day . Before moving to Charlotte in 1965, she worked as secretary at West End Baptist Church in Gaffney, South Carolina. Surviving are her three children, Michael David King of Rapid City, South Dakota, Gerald Wayne "Buzz" King of Charlotte with wife Ann Davis King, and Teresa Diane King Randall of Charlotte with husband Kevin Craig Randall, Sr. She has 10 grandchildren and 14 great grandchildren. The family would like to express special thanks to the family and friends for the prayers and support and especially to the care assistants at Carillon Assisted Living. In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be made to Alzheimer's Association of Gaston or Gaston Hospice. |
