Obituary: HICKORY---Carl Eugene Killian, 90, passed away 30, 2011 at Frye Regional Medical after a period of declining health. Carl was born 24, 1920, to the late Baxter McLee and Sadie Velma Bowman Killian. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by brothers: Glenn A. Killian and Kenneth Clyde Killian and sister: Betty Lorene Killian. He was a lifelong member of St. Stephens Lutheran Church Mo. Synod. He served in the Air Force during World War II as a P-38 mechanic in England, France and Germany and still proudly flew the American flag. He was a member of American Legion Post #48. He retired from Hickory Manufacturing after 56 years of service. His hobbies included farming, gardening, working word puzzles and he was an avid sports fan. His favorite teams were the St. Louis Cardinals, Duke Basketball and Nascar with Tony Stewart being his favorite driver. Surviving are his wife of 67 years, Evelyn Hollar Killian of the home, daughter: Linda Weaver and husband, Robert of Hickory, granddaughter: Lisa Weaver Bull and husband David of Raleigh, grandson: Robert Shawn Weaver and wife, Leslie of Raleigh, great-grandchildren: Caroline Bull, Davis Bull, Mason Weaver, Henry Bull and Liam Weaver, brother: Worth Killian and wife, Mae of Hickory. Services will be , 2, at 2:00 PM at St. Stephens Lutheran Church Mo. Synod with Reverends David Guelzow and David Ziehr officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery with graveside military honors conducted by the American Legion Post #48. The family will receive friends from 12:30 - 1:45 PM at St. Stephens Lutheran Church, Mo Synod. Pallbearers will be; David Bull, Shawn Weaver, David Killian, Allen Killian, Stephen Killian and Harvey Killian. Memorials may be made to St. Stephens Lutheran Church Mo. Obituary: Billy Otto (Bill) Killian, late of Sunrise Assisted Living, Raleigh, passed from this life on 6, 2011, in the same manner in which he lived his life- with quiet dignity and unwavering faith. His wife, Betty Sue Dedmon Killian, died on May 3, 2009, just three days before what would have been their 60th wedding anniversary. Born 3, 1927 in Catawba , NC, Bill was the youngest of eight children. He is preceded in death by his parents, Albert Otto Killian and Cora Sipe Killian, brothers Gaither, Paul and Norman, and sisters Elsie, Clara and Pauline. His brother Ray Allen Killian lives in Charlotte, NC. Billy is survived by his children and their families: Richard Esley Killian, and his wife, Beryl, great granddaughter, Olivia, of Dar es Salaam, Tanzania; Cadeen Green, granddaughter, of Oakland, CA; Thomas William Killian and his wife Leslie, and their sons, Thomas and Matthew, of Summit, NJ; Cynthia Allen Killian, and her children, Wills and Avery Citty, of Raleigh, NC Bill is remembered as a kind, Christian man who was dedicated to his family, the church and his 44 year career with the Belk organization. He graduated from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill in 1949 where he and Betty are honored by the Killian Old Well Scholarship, which allows two deserving students from New Hanover to attend UNC. Bill served his country in the Marine Corps Reserve, from which he was called for active duty as a First Lieutenant during the Korean War. Bill and Betty raised their family in Wilmington, North Carolina, where they lived from the early 1950s until Bills retirement in 1999. At that time they moved to Pinehurst, NC, where they became members of Our Savior Lutheran Church. In early 2009, Bill and Betty moved to Sunrise Assisted Living in Raleigh, NC, where they joined Good Shepherd Lutheran Church. Over the years Bill actively served in the church. At St. Matthews Lutheran Church in Wilmington, NC, he served as Chairman of the Church Council, President of the Congregation, leader of building campaigns and call committees, as well as teacher of the adult school class. He encouraged his children in the church and in sports, teaching all three to play tennis. As a boy, he and his brothers constructed a clay tennis court and taught themselves the game. Bill was a natural leader, always willing to take responsibility and do what needed to be done. At the same time, he was a gentle person who led mainly by example. Perhaps from his rural upbringing, Bill loved gardening and yard work. He kept plants of various types and summer gardens, and did his own yard work, much of it even after retirement. Summer road trips to visit relatives often included stops at fresh produce stands along the way. He was an avid reader, which no doubt influenced his children and grandchildren in a similar way. He was a man of great patience, forbearance and humility, who truly exhibited biblical wisdom. In recent years Bill was affected by Alzheimers, although thankfully its progression was slow and he was able to recognize and interact with family, friends and others until he passed. Never one to complain, his response when asked how he was doing was Fine. Dad, Bill, Gaga, we will miss you tremendously; however that sadness is tempered by great thankfulness for having been part of your life. You have truly earned your heavenly reward. May your soul rest in eternal peace. Obituary: HIGH POINT- Kathleen Asbell Killebrew, 93, of High Point passed away , 20, at High Point Regional Hospital. Mrs. Killebrew was born on 22, 1922 in Chowan , daughter of James Henry Asbell and Mary Thomas Asbell. She has been a resident of High Point since 1950. She was a teacher in High Point for several years. retiring from teaching, she and her husband owned the Swiss Colony Store at Westchester Mall. Kathleen was very involved at Wesley Memorial United Methodist Church where she served in their service organization the Marthas and the Stephens. Kathleen also lovingly volunteered her time to the High Point Regional Hospital Guild, High Point Theatre and Delta Kappa Gamma. She was the 2000 Senior Citizen of the year for the American Red Cross and was the Annie Mae Powell Award of Excellence winner. On 22, 1948 she was married to George Washington Killebrew, who preceded her in death. She was also preceded in death by her daughter Carolyn Killebrew Harlow. Surviving are one son Terry Lynn Killebrew and companion Elizabeth Larson of High Point; and three grandchildren, Johnathan Webster Harlow III (Casey)., Leigh Evans Harlow and William Edmunson Harlow. A funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. , 25 at Wesley Memorial United Methodist Church by Rev. Dr. Al Ward.
