Obituary: A dear and precious wife, mother, sister, and friend, Mrs. Rhetta Jean Metelli Kiger, 68, of High Point, NC died on 29, 2014 at her home surrounded by her loving family. Born 9, 1946 in Monroe, NC, she was the daughter of the late William Joseph "Bucky" and Faye Rorie Metelli. Jean received an Associate degree from Wingate University, a Bachelor degree from Western Carolina University, and a Masters in Library Science from Rutgers University. She was a retired librarian and media specialist who held positions at Winnsboro, SC Public Library; Monroe High School, Monroe, NC; Westchester Academy; Greensboro Public Library; and both Thomasville High and Thomasville Middle Schools. On 9, 1982, she married the man of her dreams, Larry Dean Kiger, and together they had a dear daughter, Stephanie Jean. Jean had many interests in life including cross-stitching, gardening, piano, and travel with her family, to Atlanta to watch the Braves play. But there is no doubt that her greatest interests were reading, music and bridge. We will never know just how many books Jean read in her lifetime, having sometimes finished as many as twenty to thirty books per week. Her love for books and passion for reading was so intense that she dedicated her life to bringing literature into the hearts and minds of children. Her love for music was demonstrated early on as a member of the Monroe First Presbyterian Church choir and later the choir at Emerywood Baptist. And anyone who knew her was familiar with her love for bridge. Though never boastful, she was very proud of the fact that she was a Gold Life Master in the game. Friends may pay their respects to the family on , 31, 2014 from 5:00pm to 7:00pm, at Emerywood Baptist Church, High Point, NC and , 2, 2014 from 11:00pm to 1:00pm, at First Presbyterian Church, Monroe, NC. Services to celebrate Jean's life will be held on , 1, 2014 at 1:00pm, at Emerywood Baptist Church, High Point, and on , 2, 2014 at 2:00pm, at First Presbyterian Church, Monroe. Dr. Robert Ferguson, pastor of Emerywood Baptist Church, will conduct the High Point service and will also assist Rev. Jason Haas, pastor at First Presbyterian Church, with the Monroe service. Interment will be held at Lakeland Memorial , Monroe, NC immediately following the Monroe service. Jean is preceded in death by her parents; her maternal grandparents, William Thomas Rorie and Retta Ellen Williams Rorie; and her paternal grandparents, Gennaro Metelli and Giovina Ciapanna Metelli; and many loved aunts, uncles and cousins. She is survived by her beloved husband and best friend, Larry Kiger, of High Point and the other love of her life, her daughter, Stephanie Kiger of Charlotte; two sisters, Janice Metelli Edwards of Wingate, NC; and Joan Metelli of Monroe, NC; in-laws, nieces, aunts, and cousins. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Emerywood Baptist Church or the charitable organization of your choice relating to the education of children or the homeless. The family wishes to extend its gratitude to many who blessed Jean's heart and whom she loved as they waited upon her and made her struggle a little easier including the staff of High Point Regional Hospital, especially the caring nurses in the ICU, Wake Forest Baptist Hospital, Graybrier Rehabilitation , Hospice of the Piedmont, and BAYADA . are also grateful to her church, Emerywood Baptist. Finally, the family expresses special appreciation to the circle of family and friends who gave Jean love, devotion, and cherished time while on this earth. Our hearts rejoice in knowing that she is now in the hands of the Lord and that she is having a grand reunion with her parents, other relatives and friends. Jean, we will miss you and never forget you. May God bless you until we meet again. |
