Obituary: Waynesville, Doris Kepley, 82, passed away on , 13, 2017 in Easley, South Carolina where she has lived for the past few years. Born in Macon , she was the daughter of the late Charles and Myrtle Moore Young. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Fred Kepley, who died in 1980; three daughters, Joyce Smith, Linda Kay Ray and Jean Carpenter; two sons, Wayne and Phillip Ray; two sisters, Donna Woodring and Phyllis Jean Young; two brothers, Gerald and Charles Young. Doris was a member of New Covenant Church and loved being with family and going to yard sales. Doris is survived by a daughter, Nancy Ray, of Canton; a sister, Marie Sutton (Luther) of Waynesville; six grandchildren; 8 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on , 16 in the Waynesville Chapel of Wells with Reverend Dr. Frank Harvey officiating. Burial will be at Garrett-Hillcrest Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 12:30 p.m. until service time at the funeral home. Obituary: Kenneth W. Keplar, 92, passed away peacefully at his Raleigh home on 10, 2014. He was born in 1922 in Pulaski, Indiana, the son of Earl Cecil Keplar and Sarah Hoffman Keplar. He is survived by children: Kathryn Gilmore (Donald), Susan Schaler (Carl), and Kenneth Keplar (Deb McMurrey); son-in-law, Yale Samole; grandchildren: Christine Hart (Raphael), Laura Gilmore, Angela Ma (Michael), Kathryn Page (Adam), Adam Samole, Erik Keplar, Andrew Samole and great-grandchildren: Jacob Gilmore, Jesse Gilmore and Madison Ma; and nieces and nephews Alice-Anne Birch (Tony). He was preceded in death his wife, Margaret Anita Crabtree Keplar and his daughters Anne-Lynne Samole and Lisa Keplar. During World War II, he served his country with honor. He received the Bronze Star and other medals including the Distinguished Flying Cross, which was awarded for extraordinary achievement in aerial flight. He completed his mission (one of 50), landed his damaged B24 and saved his entire crew. He graduated from the University of Kentucky with a degree in Engineering. Subsequently, he accepted a position with IBM, where he retired after 33 years. He was an inventor, as was his father and his uncles. While at IBM, he contributed to the birth of many technical marvels, including computers and the bar code scanner. He was a brilliant, fascinating, passionate, competitive and loving man. He began his sweet letters to My Darling Wife, loved and was as a brother by the Crabtrees, his wifes family; and was known as Mister Fixit by his neighbors and friends. He excelled in golf, table tennis and many other sports. He medaled in swimming, which was so beautiful that he drew poolside spectators, wherever he swam.
