Obituary: Frank Kapp went home to be with the Lord on 8, 2014. Frank lived his life to the fullest. He was a member of the Winston Salem Hog Chapter and the Sons of Confederate Veterans Mechanized Calvary. He served twice in the Army, once in the 82nd Airborne division and then as a driver to a high ranking military official. He made his living driving trucks for Overnight, Branch Motor Express, and Old Dominion. He loved to ride and had recently returned from Sturgis with some of his buddies from Smoking HD. He would go most every morning to Bojangles in Kernersville to have breakfast with good friends, sharing his adventures and hearing theirs. He was loved by many and will be dearly missed. Frank is survived by two daughters, Marilyn Reeves of Sellersburg, IN, and Tanya Maxwell (Russell) of Statesville, NC. , four grandchildren, Carleigh and Skylar Reeves, and Katy and Neal Maxwell. A celebration of Frank’s life will be held , 13 at 7:30 pm in the Davis Chapel. The family will receive friends from 5:00 pm until 7:30 pm. I love you with all my heart Daddy. Obituary: Tobee Wynne Kaplan, age 82, died peacefully at home on 19, 2016 after spending the weekend surrounded by her adoring children and grandchildren. She is survived by daughter, Lyn Chasen (Barry), sons Randall Kaplan (Kathy Manning) and Scott Kaplan (Maeve), grandchildren Brandon Chasen (Catherine), Blake and Ben Chasen, Elizabeth, Robert and Jennifer Kaplan, Sara Stricker (Elon ) Sophia Wells (Jonathan), Aubrey and Henry Kaplan and great-grandchildren Brandon and Brooks Chasen, and Addison Wells. She was predeceased by her beloved husband Leonard Kaplan, and her daughter Lori. Tobee was known for her beauty and graciousness, her devotion to her family, her strength of spirit and her positive approach to life. These traits carried her through the tragic loss of her first husband, Robert Rosenberg, of Roanoke, VA, who died at age 34, leaving her with four small children. She met Leonard Kaplan of High Point, NC, who, at 36, was lucky to find such a lovely ready-made family to marry. Leonard was a brilliant and creative businessman, as well as a wonderful husband and father, and Tobee and Leonard became true life partners. Tobee supported Leonard as he built his small janitorial supply company, Kay Chemical , into a worldwide supplier of cleaning chemicals to the giants of the fast food industry. When success followed Leonards hard work, Tobee and Leonard gave back to the community and the broader world through significant philanthropic efforts. Together Tobee and Leonard made a lasting impact on Greensboro and beyond. supported educational programs ranging from scholarships at UNCG to new buildings at Greensboro Day school, B ai Shalom Day School, Elon Law School, and the Hillel House at UNC. were major supporters of United Way, Urban Ministries, and Habitat for Humanity. were long-time supporters of the Greensboro Jewish Federation, Beth David Synagogue, B ai Shalom and Temple Emanuel, contributing generously to support new buildings to each institution. were donors to the Duke University Medical and Cone Hospital, which recently named its Cardiac Rehabilitation after Leonard. Tobee thought it was critical to help those in need. She was one of the co-founders of the Greensboro Jewish Family Services, and she was the impetus behind their gift to build a home for the Greensboro Womens Resource . Tobee loved the arts and was a longstanding donor to the Greensboro Symphony, the Eastern Music Festival and Triad Stage, whose Pyrle Theater is named after Tobees mother, Pyrle Gibson. Through Tobees encouragement, they made one of the first major gifts to the Tanger for the Performing Arts, whose theater will be named for Tobee and Leonard. the death of her beloved Leonard in 2015, Tobee honored Leonard with a gift to the new UNCG Welless , which will be named for Leonard in . Tobee and Leonard were honored as the 2014 recipients of the NCCJ Citation Award which recognized their impact locally, nationally and internationally. Born in Battle Creek, MI, Tobee was raised in Miami Beach, FL, and attended the University of Miami before moving to Roanoke, VA, with her first husband. She and Leonard lived in Greensboro, NC for more than 50 years. Although she and Leonard had a home in Boca Raton, FL, they considered Greensboro home and devoted many of their charitable contributions to making Greensboro a better place and helping others in and around Greensboro. Obituary: Leonard Jerome Kaplan, age 86, died peacefully of natural causes on 12, 2015. He is lovingly survived by his wife of 50 years, Tobee Kaplan, his children Lyn Chasen and husband Barry Chasen, Randall Kaplan and wife Kathy Manning, Scott Kaplan and wife Maeve Kaplan, grandchildren Brandon Chasen and wife Catherine, Blake and Ben Chasen, Elizabeth, Robert and Jennifer Kaplan, Sara Kaplan Stricker and husband Elon Stricker, Sophia, Aubrey and Henry Kaplan, and great-grandson Brandon Chasen, Jr. He was predeceased by his beloved daughter Lori Kaplan. Mr. Kaplan grew up in High Point, NC, the son of the late Sara and Harry Kaplan and the brother of the late Dr. Arthur Kaplan. Forced to leave UNC to take over his fathers janitorial supply company when his father became ill, he graduated from High Point University while running his family business. He served in the U.S Army during the Korean War, then returned to the business and used his determination, creativity, and hard work to build Kay Chemical into a worldwide supplier of cleaning chemicals to the giants of the fast food industry. When Kay merged with Ecolab in 1996, he was proud that Kay maintained its location in Greensboro and continued to thrive. Mr. Kaplans life was guided by his desire to make the world a better place, and he had a lasting impact on his community and the broader world through his significant philanthropic efforts. With the creation of the TOLEO Foundation, he and his wife Tobee pursued a deep commitment to philanthropy in education, women and childrens issues, homelessness, hunger, healthcare and human services, the arts, civil rights, and quality of life for the greater community in general and the Jewish Community in particular. Mr. Kaplan was a driving force in projects ranging from the creation of the Moses Cone Cardiac Unit, the founding of Camp Ramah Darom, and the School of Public Administration for Leadership at High Point University. He helped found pivotal agencies such as Jewish Family Services and the Jewish Foundation of Greensboro, and helped build new facilities for the Greensboro Jewish Federation, The Womens Resource , Habitat for Humanity, B ai Shalom Day School, Greensboro Day School, Beth David Synagogue, Temple Emanuel, and UNC Hillel. He was a major supporter of United Way and Urban Ministries, and he funded food programs in needy areas in Eastern Europe and Israel. He was a major contributor to the arts in Greensboro, including the Tanger for the Performing Arts, Greensboro Symphony, EMF and Triad Stage, whose Pyrle Theater is named for his late mother-in-law Pyrle Gibson. A visionary thinker, Mr. Kaplan created two international organizations to address global needs. Through his Wealth and Giving Forum, he educated and motivated others to use their wealth for charitable purposes. With The Alliance for Global Good, he encouraged innovative solutions to poverty, health and environmental, issues, funding grants worldwide, including the building of a maternal health clinic in Ghana. Among his many awards, Mr. Kaplan received an honorary doctorate from the Jewish Theological Seminary, Greensboro Chamber of Commerces Thomas Z. Osborne Citizen of the Year Award, Greensboro Jewish Federations Benjamin Cone, Sr. Leadership Award, and the 2014 NCCJ Citation Award. Mr. Kaplans funeral will take place at Beth David Synagogue at 11:00 am with Rabbi Eliezer Havivi officiating, Burial will follow at the Greensboro Hebrew .
