He was born May 9, 1920, to Timothy Jackson Knowlton Sr. and Samantha Victoria Burton Knowlton.He was preceded in death by his parents; his loving wife, Lurlene Speakman Knowlton; two brothers; and two sisters.Survivors include a son, Charles Robert "Bobby" Knowlton, wife Anne; a daughter, Reba Knowlton Dyer and husband Ken; grandchildren, James Wesley "Jay" Knowlton (Holly), Charles Robert Knowlton II (Jennifer), Kelley K. Hopkins (Shane), Dustin D. Dyer (Brenda), Nicolas K. Dyer (Kari); 13 great-grandchildren; and his loving canine companions, "Megan" and "Bebo".Our Dad and Big Papaw had a favorite saying, "He would rather wear out than rust out", he got his request.Approaching his 94th birthday, he has had a full life, proudly serving in the U.S. Army during World War II, employed over 40 years as shop foreman at Williams Auto Parts in Decatur, founding member of the Flint Rescue Squad, Volunteer Coordinator for Morgan Civil Defense and a member of Flint Baptist Church.A friend Loveth at all times...Proverbs 17:17, and a great friend he was to so many, but the greatest was family. Obituary: Mary Jeanne Scassiferro Knowles - a 69 year-old native of East Chicago, IN and a longtime resident of Mobile passed away at her home on 18, 2010, after a lengthy illness. Jeanne was a charter member of the American Legion Post 88 Ladies Auxiliary and was later a member of the Post 76 Auxiliary. She was preceded in death by her son, James Allen Jimmy Doerr. She is survived by two children, Allysia Wolford and Terry Doerr; brother, John Scassiferro; close friends, Elizabeth Robertson, Rita Carol Durrett, Clara Gilmore, and Mary Rose; caregivers, Mary Nehls and Gay Daves; grandchildren, nieces, and nephews. Obituary: Louis Joseph Knowles was born 7, 1925 in Mobile, AL. He graduated from McGill Institute in 1944, then attended Spring Hill . He served with the United States Army, and was wounded while stationed in Florence, Italy during WWII, earning him a Purple Heart. Mr. Knowles also received the World War II Victory Medal, and the European African Middle Eastern Service Medal with three Bronze Stars. He retired from South Central Bell/Bellsouth after 33 years. During his retirement, he enjoyed spending time playing golf, fishing, and attending air shows with his family. Mr. Knowles was a member of the Telephone Pioneers, and participated in the Honor flight from Mobile to Washington D.C. He was a member of St. Pius X. Mr. Knowles was preceded in death by his parents, Ralph Knowles and Essimia Imsand Knowles; brothers, Bernard Knowles, Ralph J. Knowles, and John Edward Knowles; and sisters, Helen Marie Constantine, and Sister Melva Elizabeth Knowles. He is survived by his devoted wife of 67 years, Jayne Hunt Knowles; son, Louis (Dana) Knowles; daughters, Patricia (Ray) Gibson, Priscilla (Tommy) Burges, and Margaret (Bruce) Miller; grandsons, Brian Knowles and Marc Knowles; granddaughters, Jennifer Levy, Marie Burges, and Jessica Miller; great-grandchildren, Blaine, Hanna, Taylor, and Christopher; sister-in-law, Mable Claire Reeves; cousin, William T. Reeves; and a host of nieces, nephews, and many long-time dear friends. Obituary: Kenneth James Knowles, beloved husband of 59 years to Rita Joan (Mulligan) passed away on 1, 2015 after a long battle with cancer. Born 17, 1933 to Leonard H. and Edna May (Walker) Knowles. Ken grew up in the Pacific Northwest where he excelled in school, earned the rank of Eagle Scout and developed a lifelong love of the great outdoors. He enjoyed fishing, camping, boating, horseback riding, snow and water skiing. He graduated from the US military Academy at West Point and served over 21 years as an Army officer, including a tour in Vietnam. Assigned to Redstone Arsenal in 1972, he retired from the Army in 1978, earned a Master's degree at UAH and spent many years in the defense project management community working on various projects. Devoted to his faith and family, he was an active volunteer over his 43 years in Huntsville with CASA, Marriage Encounter, St. Vincent de Paul, the Interfaith Mission Service and numerous church ministries and local charities. He is survived by his wife, Rita; sister, Terri Rider; five children; Daniel, Michael, Brian, Susan (Stitzel) and Sheila (Wood); eleven grandchildren and one great-granddaughter. A funeral mass will be held on , 7, at Holy Spirit Catholic Church at 1:00 pm followed by a reception in the Parish Hall. A private family interment at Valhalla Memorial Gardens will be held afterwards. In lieu of flowers, the family asks donations be made in Ken's memory to either the Society of St. Vincent de Paul, 625 Airport Rd., Huntsville, AL 35802 or to the Tristate Veterans Community Alliance, 35805 Edwards St., Suite 500, Cincinnati, OH, 45209. |
