Obituary: William Ray Knight, age 67, passed away at Regional Medical surrounded by his family on 6, 2011. Mr. Knight leaves behind his wife of 45 years to cherish his memory, Ann Knight. His loving daughter Missy Burt and special son-in law, Stanley Burt. Special granddaughter, Whitney Welch and her husband Zac. He is survived by two brothers, George Larry Knight of Jacksonville and Jerry Knight of Oxford. He is preceded in death by his parents, William Durwood Knight and Lois Charlotte Knight. Mr. Knight is retired from the Anniston Police Department as a sergeant with over 22 years of service. He was owner of 62 Boat Sales for over 20 years. Ray was fortunate to have worked at two jobs that he loved. He enjoyed spending time on the lake on a pontoon boat with his family. He will be missed by his family. He was of the Baptist faith. Mr. Knight was a member of the local FOP Lodge. A memorial service will be held at 3 pm , 8, 2011 at Gray Brown-Service Mortuary Chapel with Rev. Donald Hamilton officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to services at the funeral home. Obituary: Virginia Strickland Knight, 89, a resident of Saraland, AL, passed away at a local hospital 15, 2015. She was a former employee of International Paper for 30 years. Alone in her room, just she and I, my mom took her last sweet breath. I held her hand, trying to hold onto her, never willing to let her go, even after a 19 day struggle. But God came in an instant and took her home. No more pain and suffering, his plan was now complete. She is preceded in death by her parents, Ernest and Rosa Lee Strickland; her sister, Laverna Grimes and her husband, Johnnie "Fritz" Knight. She is survived by her daughter, Dannetta Knight Brown (Steve); her son, Johnny T. Knight, Sr. (Virginia); four grandchildren, Deisha Brown Butler (Kevin), Johnny T. Knight, Jr. (Rachel), Michael Knight (Brandy) and Samantha Knight; eight great-grandchildren, Chase and Chandler Buler, Brittanie Summers, Breanna, Brooke, Brantley, Chloey and Addison Knight. She is also survived by her sister-in-law, Mary Geraldine Creel; brother-in-law, Doug Knight (Diane) of Palm Bay, FL; and her nephew, Darrell Grimes (Renee) of Saraland. Many special thanks go out to my wonderfuld daughter, Deisha, for all the loving care you gave to your MawMaw. You were always there for her, throughout her whole life. You could never do enough for her and your amazing love for her, always had a wonderful smile on her face. You stayed with her the last 19 days of her life, whispering words of love into those watchful eyes, even though she could not respond. You were so precious to her and always know, she knew that. She loved you so much. I am so blessed to have a daughter like you that has so much love to give, and always caring about others and never about yourself. To my wonderful husband, Steve, I can never thank you enough for all the love and devotion and help that you gave to my mom the last 11 years of her life. Obituary: Vernon James Knight 15, 1923 - 27, 2013 Mr. Knight passed away at age 90. He was born 15, 1923 in Sunburst, North Carolina, and was the son of Adam and Nola Knight. He served four years in the U.S. Army Air Corps during WWII. He met and married Anna Faye McKay in Fresno, California. Mr. Knight was a graduate of the University of Georgia, earning a Masters degree in Forest Resources. He worked for Kimberly-Clark Corporation for 39 years, serving as Director of Natural Resources in Neenah, Wisconsin, President of Kimberly-Clark Fiber Supply and Research in Sao Paolo, Brazil, and a Corporate Vice President in Birmingham, Alabama. Boy Scouts of America was an important part of Mr. Knight's life. While serving as Vice President of the Choccolocco Council, he was presented with the Silver Beaver Award. He was a man of strong religious faith, and was a member of Meadow Brook Baptist Church in Birmingham, where he served as a deacon. Mr. Knight was a devoted husband and father. He is survived by Faye, his loving wife of 65 years; two sons, Vernon J. Knight, Jr. (Judith) and Geoffrey F. Knight (Suzanne); one daughter, Jane Knight Culler (John); seven grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and brother and sister, Wallace S. Knight (Ruby) and Jennie Ruby Knight, both of Canton, North Carolina. Mr. Knight was predeceased by his parents, Adam and Nola Knight; brother, Adam R. Knight; and sister, Annie Virginia Knight. Obituary: Knight, Shirley Anne Bridges 84 of Indian Springs, died , 22, 2015. She was born in Birmingham, Alabama, 15 1931, the only child of Chadwell Coldwell Bridges and Katherine Schlichter Bridges. She attended Elyton School before the family moved to Jackson, Tennessee, where she graduated from Jackson High School in 1948. Mrs. Knight was a 1952 graduate of Union University, Jackson Tennessee with majors in music and education. While at Union, she was soloist with the Union University Choir and Chorus. She was a member of honorary music, drama, and literary societies and of Chi Omega. She was literary editor for the Union University newspaper and won several local, regional and national awards for creative writing. Mrs. Knight was elected secretary of the sophomore and the senior classes and twice elected to the University's homecoming court. She was selected for the 1952 edition of Who's Who Among Students in American s and Universities. Upon graduating from Union, she received a piano scholarship for summer study in Estes Park, Colorado, with Dr. Arne Oldberg, renowned pianist and master teacher. A classically trained pianist and lyric soprano, she presented musical programs for churches, civic clubs, professional organization and conventions throughout the Southeast. Mrs. Knight received a Master of Arts degree in music education from George Peabody for Teachers, Nashville, Tennessee in 1953. She taught in the Birmingham City System and was choirmaster at St. John's Evangelical and Reformed Church for several years. Following her marriage, she devoted her time to her family and served as choirmaster/organist for several Birmingham churches as well as teaching piano in her home studio. In 1968, she returned to teaching school and taught at Bluff Park Elementary School until she retired in 1991. An avid genealogist, Mrs. Knight compiled several books of family history. She was a member of the Computer Assisted Genealogy Group and the Birmingham Genealogical Society where she had served as a corresponding secretary and on the Board of Directors. She was also a member and former corresponding secretary of the Alabama Genealogical Society and a coordinator of the Alabama State Archives Loose Papers Project in Shelby , Alabama. Mrs. Knight was a member of All Saints' Episcopal Church, St. Martha's Guild of All Saints', Kappa Delta Epsilon, Daughters of the American Revolution, United Daughters of the Confederacy, and numerous historical and genealogical organizations throughout the United States. Preceded in death by her husband, Richard P. Knight Jr., and her son, Richard Chadwell Knight, she is survived by her son, Karl Coldwell Knight of Huntsville, Alabama; her daughter and son-in-law, Katherine and Clay Haley of Vestavia Hills; and three grandchildren: Clayton Chadwell Haley and Katherine Kessler Haley of Vestavia Hills and Kirsten Elena Knight of Huntsville, Alabama. Visitation will be held at All Saints' Episcopal Church, 110 West Hawthorne Road, wood, Alabama at 9:00 AM to 10:00 AM , 29, 2015 with funeral services afterwards at 10:00 AM at All Saints' with burial following in Elmwood .
