Obituary: On 4, 2014, at the age of 94, Mary Wilson Key joined her husband, Fred Owens Key, her parents, Harvey E. and Minnie Smith Wilson, and her 8 brothers and 3 sisters in Heaven. Thanks to God she is no longer bound by the Alzheimers disease that, since 1997, took away her vibrant personality and her very life. She leaves behind a family who is thankful for her loving ways, her kindness and caring, and the example of a Christian life. A lifetime Methodist, Mary was a member of Mt. Vernon UMC from childhood and a founding member of Gardendale Mt. Vernon United Methodist Church. She served both churches in many capacities, but her happiest time was following in her mothers footsteps as President of United Methodist Women (earlier called Womens Society of Christian Service). Her survivors include her 3 children, Steven Robert Key (Linda), Fred Owens Key, Jr. (Faye), and Ann Key Kirkland; 8 grandchildren; 13 great grandchildren, and 1 great-great grandchild. Visitation will be at Gardendale Mt. Vernon United Methodist Church on 10, 2014 from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM followed by the service at 11:00 AM. In lieu of flowers donations may be made in Marys memory to Gardendale-Mt. Vernon UMC, 805 Crest Drive, Gardendale, AL35071, or to Alzheimers of Central Alabama, 300 Office Park, Suite 225, Mt. As a senior at Thomas W. Martin High School, Kenneth began part-time work for Alabama Power . He worked during the construction of APCO Gorgas SP Unit 8, he was hired full time in , 1955. From 1957 to 1961, he worked on the construction of APCO Wilsonville Steam Plant Units 1-4 and APCO Logan Martin Dam Hydro Plant. In 1964, he was transferred to Birmingham APCO General Office to work in the Hydro and Steam Plant Engineering Dept. He later worked in Electrical Substations Design Department and finished his career in the Corporate Property Accounting Department. Kenneth retired in 1991 as a Senior Corporate Accountant. Kenneth served our country in the Army National Guard and received an honorable discharge after 8 years of dedicated service. Kenneth enjoyed researching genealogy and has authored several books, which have been donated to Wallace State Genealogy Library in Hanceville. He loved music and played both the guitar and the piano. He was an active member of East Gardendale Baptist Church until his health began to decline. He loved to camp and traveled widely. He carried his children on regular camping trips during their youth, and he and Carla traveled widely across the US following their marriage. were able to visit all but three states. He was deeply loved by his family and friends and will be dearly missed. Services will be held at Ridouts Gardendale Chapel on , 11 with a visitation to begin at 1:30pm; funeral service at 3:00pm followed by his burial in Moncrief , Gardendale, AL. Mrs. Key passed away in her home in the late afternoon hours of 12, 2015 surrounded by those who loved her most. She is preceded in death by her parents, Jessie Shelton Williamson and Ida Lee Vivian Musgrove Williamson, brothers Don Williamson and Jessie Shelton “Skeet” Williamson Sr.. Obituary: John Smiley Key died 6, 2013. He was born in Camden, Tenn., on 4, 1940 to Jacklyn Smiley and Gilbert Jasper Key. He resided in Decatur from second grade where he attended Somerville Road School and later Decatur High School. John attended the University of Alabama and graduated from the University of Alabama Law School, where he was Editor in Chief of the Alabama Law Review. getting his law degree, John clerked for United States District Judge Clarence Allgood in Birmingham, and came home to Decatur in 1964, where he joined the firm of Eyster and Eyster. John had been past president of the Morgan Bar Association, a former member of the Alabama Bar Commissioners and member and former director of the Alabama Defense Lawyers Association. He was an Advocate of the American Board of Trial Advocates, a Fellow of the American of Trial Lawyers, and a member of the International of Trial Lawyers. John Key was a lifelong member of St. John's Episcopal Church, where he served as vestryman and senior warden. He was a past president of Decatur Rotary Club, past board member of the Chamber of Commerce, a member of the Advisory Board of Directors at AmSouth Bank. John served as a member and Chairman of the Board of Trustees of Decatur General Hospital. Mr. Key was preceded in death by his parents, Jacklyn Smiley and Gilbert Jasper Key. He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Lucy Minot Key; one son, John Key Jr. of Birmingham; one daughter, Mary Scott Key Pizzitola and husband, Joey, grandson, John Pizzitola, granddaughter, Anna Pizzitola, all of Birmingham; brother, Gilbert Jasper Key Jr. (wife Ann) of Birmingham; sister, Jacklyn Key Bailey (husband Foster); and many nieces and nephews. A memorial service will be held at St. John's Church on , 10, 2013, at 2 p.m .with burial in St. John's Columbarium. Visitation to follow the service.
