Obituary: Kenneth Alford Kleinschmidt, Sr.

31, 1953 - 28, 2015

Local businessman Kenneth A. Kleinschmidt, Sr. passed away in New Orleans on , 28, at the age of 61. He was the beloved husband of Inda Mize Kleinschmidt and the loving father of Kenneth Alford Kleinschmidt, Jr. (Jordan) and Charles Christian Kleinschmidt. He was the grandfather of Ford and Laird Kleinschmidt. He was the brother of his twin, Nell Kleinschmidt Mabry (Barry). He is also survived by nephew William Nelson Mabry (Ellen), Christian Mabry (Jenn) and niece Holly Mabry Poole (Reed). Ken was preceded in death by his parents Charles and Roberta Alford Kleinschmidt, brother Charles Christian “Chris” Kleinschmidt, and first-cousin George “Bunky” Healy III (wife Sharon and daughter Mary Margaret Gorman (Joe).

Ken was the president of Associated Manufacturers Agents, a commercial and residential lighting distributorship, started by his father in 1947. With the addition of his son, Ken, to the company several years ago, the family business will continue into its third generation.

He was a lifelong resident of New Orleans. He graduated from St. Paul’s High School in Covington and attended the University of Mississippi in the early 70s.

Kleinschmidt was active in supporting local youth programs for the Lakeview Soccer Club and Jesuit High School, where his two sons were on state championship teams and received many individual honors. He was also a loyal supporter of Ole Miss, where he and his wife began their courtship. Their fortieth wedding anniversary would have been celebrated on 2.

Ken was a devoted husband and father, who could be seen quietly supporting his family’s passions and co-hosting activities with Inda. Just last month, they hosted a ten-year reception for the 2005, 2006 and 2009 Lakeview Thunder soccer state champion players and families. He will be sorely missed by scores of friends and relatives who enjoyed his winning spirit, wry sense of humor, and perceptive way of sorting out life.

Friends and family are invited to a Memorial Service on Wed. 1 at St. Paul’s Episcopal Church, 6249 Canal Blvd. at 1:00 PM. Visitation at the church from noon – 1:00 PM. In lieu of flowers, donations are preferred to St. Paul’s Episcopal Church or Second Harvesters.

Obituary: The Grand Diva was called home by God on May 26, 2013, at Chateau Notre Dame of pneumonia. Predeceased by her mother Aimee Fourcade DAunoy. Wife of the late Leopold G. Dutch Kleinschmidt. Mother of the late Gary F. Kleinschmidt Sr. and brother Fred G. DAunoy. Survived by her loving daughter, Peggy Ann Kleinschmidt. Also Survived by three grandchildren, Gary F. Jr., Kenneth Kleinschmidt, and Kristen Winarski of South Carolina, four great grandchildren, Taylor, Gabrielle Aimee, Matthew Kleinschmidt and Emily Warnarski. She is also survived by her sister-in-law Mary Louise W. DAunoy and daughter-in-law Shirley Gebbs Kleinschmidt.

She was a graduate of Dominican High School. She lived in New Orleans until 13 years ago when she moved to Metairie. Early on she was a member of the Lakeview Garden Club where she met her buddies and took up bridge. She enjoyed bridge but it was the Manhattans and camaraderie she loved the most. Aimee, often compared to Auntie Mame, loved life and lived it to the fullest until her death. She never met a person she didn like and only saw the good in people. Aimee was a beautiful woman and if you met her, you never forgot her. She was truly a character and lived by her rules and that is what made her so special and different. The world will be a quieter place but heaven will be jumping. Im sure God thought twice before he summoned her. She will be missed.

Relatives and friends of the family, are invited to attend a festive celebration of Aimees life at St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church, 444 Metairie Road on 4, 2013. Visitation will begin at 12:00pm and will be followed by a Memorial Mass at 1:00pm.
Many heartfelt thanks to Ruby Chevez, Ruth Davilia, Toya Bradford and to Chateau Notre Dame Skilled and Hospice Group who provided loving care and comfort to our family. In lieu of flowers, please send donations to Leukemia and Lymphoma Society of Louisiana, 3636 S. I-10 Service Road West, Suite 304, Metairie, LA 70001.
