Obituary: Wadonna Layne Morford King was born in Robertson on 14, 1931 and died peacefully on 15, 2014 at Cedar Ridge Campus, Cynthiana, KY. She was the daughter of the late Everett and Eloise Linville Morford. She graduated in 1949 from Deming High School and married her high school sweet heart, John King, Jr. had three children Johnny Morford King, Karla Layne King Allison (Billy – Hammer) of Mt. Olivet, and Kristy Lee King y (Larry) of Cynthiana. Her loving husband and son preceded Mrs. King in death. Mrs. King was the first Robertson librarian – a perfect job for her since reading was a lifelong passion. She later worked at the Farmers and Traders Bank of Mt. Olivet for several years. In 1968, she became Supt. of Blue Licks State Park for four years. It was during this time that she began to fulfill a life long dream of attending college. She, along with several of her dear friends began classes at Maysville Community before the campus was even built. completing an Associate Degree, she commuted to the University of Kentucky and graduated with a Bachelors of Art in Education. She later completed a Fifth Year Program and Rank I in Education from Morehead State University. graduation, Donnie Layne, as she was affectionately known, accepted the Director of Family Planning in the Buffalo Trace Area Development District. She wrote the grant for the Meals on Wheels for Buffalo Trace and became the programs first Director. As her career progressed, she accepted the Director of Licking Valley Community Action. She loved working with and for the benefit of others but felt she needed to return to Mt. Olivet to work as John Jrs health began to decline. With this decision, she started her teaching career at Deming High School as a 7 - 12th Social Studies educator. She fell in love with the students as they did her. Mrs. Donnie, as her students called her, worked tirelessly to instill in them the desire to make learning a lifelong endeavor. She was involved in many aspects of the school and most enjoyed being senior class sponsor. As one of her students stated, she taught us all how to dream. This is so true because she saw the best in everyone and encouraged each student to reach their potential. In 1984, after John Jrs untimely death, Donnie began her world travels. At the close of each school year, she would pack a small backpack and be off for the entire summer, only to return the day before the fall semester would begin. New Zealand, Australia, Russia, China, Japan, Germany, Poland, Turkey, Switzerland, France, Egypt are among the many places that she explored. She was always ready to return to the community she loved. Her students benefited greatly from her travels as she shared them through presentations and hand-on projects. Upon her retirement from education, she became the Robertson Square Apartment Complex Manager. She enjoyed this position very much but decided to retire at the age of 75. Mrs. King was a devoted Christian and spent many hours serving Mt. Olivet Christian Church, where she was Asst. School teacher for years and if there was a potluck she was in charge! She also, was a charter member of the Womans Club, volunteered in many aspects of community life, a member of the Blue Licks Commerative Commission, a member of the Retired Teachers Association and many other organizations. There are several awards she cherished most because of the significance that they had to her: the Deming Distinguished Alumni and The Johnny M. King Leadership Award (established in memory of her son). Donnie Layne had a zest for life that was contagious and a smile that warmed your heart and lifted your spirits. She will be most remembered for those things and for her giving heart. She would reach out quietly to those in need and offer help – expecting nothing in return. She truly was a remarkable woman and to those whos life she touched she will be greatly missed. Her greatest pride was her 5 grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren. are Kathryn Layne Allison Fuller (Todd) and Kristy Marie Allison (Alen Gibson), both of Georgetown, Billy Reese Allison (Chanda) of Mt Olivet, Johnna King y of Bloomington, IN and Christian Edwin y, of Cynthiana. Her great-grandchildren are Jackson Todd Fuller, Kendall Marie Fuller and Ada-Layne Reese Allison. She is also survived by Gayle (Rosalee) King, brother-in-law, Judy Morford, sister-in-law and several nieces and a nephew and two very special cousins, Bill (Jo Ann) Hall and Susie Perkins. She had many meaningful friendships throughout her life, which included these very special women: Judy Field, Rosalyn Thomas Jones and Phyllis Hester. These dear friends preceded her in death: Leota Massey and Juanita Poe. Visitation will be evening at 5-8 pm at Robertson and the funeral will be held at First Christian Church of Mt. Olivet on at 11am. Pallbearers are: Billy Reese Allison, lll, and Christian E. y (Grandsons), Greg King (Nephew), Steve Collins, Larry Sims, and James Myron Thomas. Honorary Pallbearers are: Bill Hall, Susie Perkins, Judy Field, Rosalyn Thomas Jones, Phyllis Hester, Warren Massey, Mark Massey, Rodney Massey, Aaron Massey, Tony Overbey, Dwayne Leslie, Marvin Stewart, Stevie Morgan and Janet Hendricks. In lieu of flowers, the family has requested that donations be made to The Donnie Layne King Educational Memorial Fund. View and sign the guestbook at www.robertsoncountyfuneralhome.net. | ||||||||||
