Obituary: Scott D. Kingery, 56, of Newton and formerly of Gilman, died on , 16, 2017, at the Accura in Newton. A private family service will be held on , 20, 2017, at Prairie View near Gilman. Terry Collins has been invited to share words of comfort. The Smith of Grinnell is handling arrangements. The Kingery/Ashing family requests memorials to be directed to the charity of the donors choice, or to do a good deed in Scotts memory. A special thank you to the staff of Accura , and to Hospice of the Midwest for their care, guidance and support. Scott was born on 25, 1960, in Mason City, Iowa to Roger and Ruth Ann Lavender Kingery. He was raised by his parents, William Bill and Ruth Ashing. At a very early age, Scott choked on the button nose of his favorite teddy bear. That day changed his life forever……..lack of oxygen caused a major seizure disorder and mental challenges that affected his quality of life. Scott attended SEMCO schools and received educational care with his special needs in Marshalltown. His younger years were blessed by the kind citizens of Gilman, who kept him busy doing tasks such as washing the fire trucks or cleaning the facilities at the car wash and the laundromat. He enjoyed sharing a cup of strong black coffee, which he referred to as Norwegian coffee, with local farmers at the Gilman Co-op building. During his adult life, he resided at area care centers and worked at Progress Industries in Newton. The most important job Scott ever had was teaching others compassion. He had a great love for old time country music and hymns. He enjoyed playing games such as pocket slots, word search puzzles, and was incredibly talented at winning Kings in the Corner. One of the greatest joys of his life was going to the Iowa State Fair, and getting to share the stage with Whispering Bill Anderson. Survivors include his father, William (Doris) Ashing of Gilman; one brother, Mark (Toni Hudson) Kingery of Gilman; two sisters, Jean (Roger) Snyder of Sidney, IA and Leslie (Tom) Groves of Littleton, Colorado; and his aunts, uncles and cousins. He was preceded in death by his mother; his grandparents; and several aunts, uncles and cousins. Scott, enjoy your reunion with mom, relatives and friends! |
