Obituary: KIMBERLY Howard Melville Kelsey returned to his Heavenly Father on , 4, 2015, after living 101 vibrant years with his family and friends. He saw more changes than most people can imagine over a century of living. Howard was born in 1914 in Germfask, Michigan, and was raised in Manistique, Michigan, which is in the backwoods of the Upper Peninsula of Michigan. He was born the fifth of 10 children to Fred Kelsey and Cora Sheppard. He graduated from Manistique High School and then enlisted in the Civilian Conservation Corps (CCC) at age 18. One sister, Naoma Laux, 98, of Fairport, N.Y., survives him. The following siblings precede Howard in death: Arthur, Clarence, Lucille, twins Helen and Harold, Elmer, Minerva, and Lawrence. Howard lived 45 years in Jackson, Michigan, with his wife Hazel (married 1942) and their three children, Janice Tomasello (Goshen, Indiana), Dale Kelsey (Buhl, Idaho), and Allen Kelsey (Twin Falls, Idaho). During this time Howard was involved in the community, served as an airplane welder during World War II, worked for the Department of Agriculture as the Agriculture Stabilization and Conservation Service (ASCS) office manager, sold real estate, appraised farms and held a variety of other jobs. Some of his greatest memories were when he served for nine years as the bishop of a congregation for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and on the high council for his church for 17 years. During this time he received permission to build the first LDS meetinghouse in Jackson, Michigan, and helped organize and actually participated in the construction of the facility. During his time in Jackson, Howard spearheaded the planting of over one million trees with the help of volunteers. Howard loved hunting and fishing and went deer hunting 29 years in a row. His last hunt was in 2012 at 98 years of age. He could tell stories for hours about his adventures growing up including those involving wild animals, his Pa and logging camps, losing his three year old brother in the woods, serving in his church and community and many more. Following their sons out West, Howard and his wife Hazel moved to Kimberly, Idaho, in 1994. Howard tenderly cared for his wife until gentle Hazel passed away in 1996. visiting Michigan he met and eventually married Mary Skidmore in 1997 and has enjoyed many years with her. Mary and Howard cherished their time together. Howard is survived by his wife Mary, three children, Janice (Gerry), Dale (Irene), Allen (Krista), 15 grandchildren and 44 great grandchildren. His posterity often sought advice from Grandpa and loved to sit and listen to his many stories. His mind was sharp up until he passed away and he could recall the names of most everyone he met in his life. Howards sister, Naoma, credits their Grandma Eliza Sheppard for their remarkable memories. Howard enjoyed eating regularly at Papa Kelseys Pizza and Subs and attended numerous basketball games even when he was 100 years old. He loved the Kimberly community, the Kimberly 2nd Ward and all of his friends that cared for him and Mary. A viewing will be held from 6-8 p.m. on , 9, 2015, at Whites Mortuary at 136 4th Avenue East in Twin Falls, Idaho. services will be conducted at 11 a.m. on , 10, 2015, at the Kimberly, Idaho, LDS Stake located at 3857 North 3500 East. Obituary: Vern Eugene Kelsch passed away peacefully on 28, 2016 surrounded by his family at his winter home in Tucson, AZ. He was born on May 30, 1925 in Green Creek, ID, the son of Peter and Bertha (Pointer) Kelsch. The family later moved to Idaho Falls where he farmed with his parents, brothers and sisters. In 1944, he enlisted in the US Navy where he proudly served aboard the USS Intrepid during World War II. In 1948, he married Mildred (Millie) Hersley and together they owned and operated the Saving for 60 years, working side by side with her and with their five children. He also served on the Associated Foods Board of Directors for ten years. Sadly, he closed the store in 2008 at the spry young age of 82. Vern was the perfect example of the work and reward of living the American Dream. In 2009, Vern married Ruth Hackman and they spent the last 7 years as Snowbirds, spending winters in Tucson and summers in Idaho Falls. Throughout his years, Vern always treasured spending family time at the cabin in Island Park where he loved snowmobiling, skiing, fishing, hiking, and boating. These times we will always hold dear in our hearts. He was an active and devoted member of Christ the King Catholic Church in Idaho Falls and more recently attended St. Thomas Catholic Church in Tucson during the winter months. The world lost a wonderful man and Heaven gained a great angel. You will always be missed. Vern is survived by his wife Ruth Hackman Kelsch; four children: Richard Kelsch, Catherine (Steve) Hardy, Kris (Dave) Burgess and Robert (Ginny) Kelsch; four stepchildren; eight grandchildren; five great grandchildren; his brother James and his two sisters Betty (Pete) Lumia, and Joyce (Bill) Rausch.
