Obituary: Jacoba (Coby) Keizer passed away at the age of 100 years on 23rd 2017 in Phoenix Arizona. She was born in Jakarta Indonesia (Batavia, Dutch East Indies) on 29th 1916 to Johannes Mulder and Teuntje Pieternella van der Dussen-Mulder. Coby had a fairytale childhood in Sukabumi, Indonesia until her school principal fathers sudden death when she was 12 years old. The family then returned to the Netherlands. Coby continued her schooling then became an elementary school teacher. In 1940 German soldiers occupied the Netherlands. Coby and her mother survived five years of very harsh conditions. Her three brothers (Ton, Bas, and Joop) endured horrendous conditions in Japanese and German labor camps but survived. the war Coby returned to Indonesia and taught 3rd grade students in Jakarta. She then met Andries Keizer, the love of her life. returned to the Netherlands and were married in 1952. Her sons Koos and Hans were born in 1953 and 1958. Coby and her family decided to immigrate to America in 1959. Coby lived briefly in Salt Lake City then moved to Phoenix Arizona where she became a nurse. She was a great mom to her two sons even though she worked full time. Coby and her family were active members of the Phoenix Christian Reformed Church. She and her husband traveled extensively in their retirement years prior to her dear husbands death in 1994. Her Christian upbringing and prior exposure to poverty in the third world and the war gave her great empathy for those in trouble and a strong desire to help others. In the late stages of her life she still greeted her many visitors with charm and grace and remained active in many charities. All who visited were regaled with stories of bygone times and exotic locales. Cobys love and wisdom will be remembered and cherished by her sons and all who had the pleasure of knowing her. Immediate surviving family members are her son Koos, his wife Rita and step-daughter Janice, her son Hans; brother-in-law Bonne Keizer, nieces, nephews and extended family from the Mulder and Keizer clans in USA, Netherlands, Canada, and Australia. The family wishes to express thanks to the many people who helped and visited her including the CRC church, Hospice of the Valley, relatives, neighbors and friends. A memorial service will be held at Green Acres Mortuary 401 N Hayden Rd Scottsdale AZ 85257 at 4:00PM on 30th 2017. A private burial will follow on 31st at Green Acres . |
