Obituary: Johns, Jr., Samuel Charles, 85 of Clearwater passed away peacefully surrounded by his family onto his new life with our Lord. Born 9, 1931 in Cleveland, Ohio. Prior to his retirement, Sam was the leading force behind tourism for not only Pinellas but for the State of Florida as well. As President of Discover Florida Suncoast, he traveled all over the world meeting with tourism boards, dignitaries and the people of local and distance lands. He is well known and respected for his work in helping Florida in being the #1 tourist location within the United States. During his retirement, he enjoyed volunteering as a clown “JoBo” through Hospice. He was a member of Skycrest UMC. He is survived by his wife of 43 years Mary Jane Johns, 2 sisters, his six children, Samuel Kent Johns, Kathleen Allison Bradford, Julia Leigh Johns, Christopher Allen Hughes, Mary Michele Powers and Stephen Warren Hughes. His family also includes 12 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren. Visitation 11th, from 6:00 – 7:30PM at Sylvan Abbey United Methodist Church, 2817 Sunset Point Road, Clearwater. On Sept. 11, 1964 he married Frances Ann Christakos in Atlanta, Ga. Ron was a leading Computer and Electrical Engineer employed by GE, Square D, NASA, and Westinghouse. He enjoyed working and providing for his family, but most of all he enjoyed having lots of fun in life and traveling with his family. He was an avid boater, fisherman, and hiker. He spent a lot of his weekends bicycling, boating, rollerblading or spending time with his family. Obituary: Robert James Johns Bobby Johns, 83, passed away suddenly 7 at his home in Miami. Born May 22, 1932 in Miami, where he resided his entire life and began his racing career. He was a racing legend as he won the Atlanta 500, the Bristol 500, 2nd in the Daytona 500, and many other racing achievements. He was one of the first NASCAR drivers to race in the Indy 500, where he raced twice and finished in the top ten.
