Obituary: John T. Elkins, Jr., M.D., a retired Cardiologist and retired Captain in the U.S. Navy, entered into rest surrounded by his family on 21, 2017 at his home in Tallahassee, Florida. He was born 27, 1927 in Havana, Florida. He was preceded in death by his parents John Thomas Elkins Sr. and Annie Lou Ferrell Elkins; sisters Mary Lenice Grantham and Nonnie Elkins Zeigler and his half brother Sam Vickers. John is survived by his sister Marjorie Elkins Underhill and his eight children, Walter Thomas Elkins (Janet), Samuel Taylor Elkins (Letitia), Marie Elkins-Hanes (David), Mary Elkins-Osborne (Jerry), Elizabeth Elkins-Weigand, Theodore James Elkins (Lauren), Jennifer Ann Elkins-Ciardo (Chris), Michelle Elkins-Walsh (Hank), eighteen grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. He took great pride in his family and friends which he dearly loved. Viewing services will be conducted by Culley's MeadowWood located at 700 Timberlane Road, Tallahassee, Florida on , 24, 2017 from 6-8 pm. A funeral service will be held at the First Baptist Church of Havana at 11:00 am on , 25, 2017, located at 116 6th Avenue East, Havana, Florida. Burial with Military Honors will follow the church service at Woodland , Havana. CAPTAIN JOHN T. ELKINS, JR., UNITED STATES NAVY (Retired) Captain John T. Elkins was born in Havana, Florida on 27 1927. At the age of 17, Captain Elkins joined the Merchant Marines and completed basic training in St. Petersburg, Florida. He qualified for Purcer Pharmacist School and was sent to Sheepshead Bay, New York for training. When Captain Elkins turned 18, he was drafted by the United States Army. basic training, he completed heavy weapons infantry at Camp Livingston, Louisiana and then parachute training at Fort Benning, Georgia. In 1945, he was assigned to 1st Division European Theater of Operations, Germany and later to the 101st Airborne Division. Captain Elkins returned home in 1946 and attended Florida State University, earning a Bachelor of Science degree in Medical Technology in only three years. While completing a fellowship in Bacteriology for a Masters Degree, Captain Elkins was recalled to active duty for the Korean Conflict. For two years he served as Laboratory Officer with the 5th US Army as a bacteriologist. From 1953-1957, Captain Elkins attended the University of Miami School of Medicine, and, during his senior year, was on active duty with the United States Army Medical Corp under the Army Senior Medical Students Program. Upon graduation from medical school, Captain Elkins was accepted for internship, and subsequently residency, in Internal Medicine and Cardiology at Walter Reed Army Medical , Washington, D.C. During residency at Walter Reed, Dr. Elkins attended to such dignitaries as General Walter Bedell Smith and President Dwight D. Eisenhower. In addition, he was selected to monitor astronaut Alan Shepard's suborbital space flight. In 1962, Captain Elkins was assigned to 121st Evacuation Hospital, Ascom, Korea as Chief of Medicine and Cardiologist for the Far Eastern Command. thirteen months, he was then assigned as assistant chief of Medicine, Walter Reed Army Hospital, Washington D.C., and Director of the Cardiovascular Renal Clinic. One year later, Captain Elkins resigned his US Army regular army commission to go into private medical practice in Internal Medicine and Cardiology, in Boca Raton, Florida. Simultaneously, Captain Elkins pursued a commission in the United States Naval Reserve. Captain Elkins had various assignments while serving as a reservist at United States Naval Reserve , Orlando, Florida, including Commanding Officer Naval Hospital in Orlando. His last Navy assignment was to the Naval Reserve , Riviera Beach, Florida, with attachment to the 4th Anglico Marine Airborne unit. serving 40 years in the Armed Forces, Captain Elkins retired on 1 1989. Subsequently, he was promoted on 12 1989 in the US Navy Reserve to the grade of Rear Admiral, and when assigned to the Marine Corps the grade of Major General. He retired from his private medical practice in 1992 and returned to Tallahassee, Florida. His military decorations include Bronze Star, Meritorious Service Medal, Army Commendation Medal with Star, American Campaign Medal, European-African Campaign Medal, World War II Victory Medal, Army Occupation Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Korean Service Medal with Star, Army Service Medal with two Stars, and Army Overseas Service Medal with two Stars. In addition to his military career, Dr. Elkins has worked extensively in the civilian sector. A few of the positions he has held include President of Medical Staff of Florida State Hospital, Board of Directors of Palm Beach Heart Association, Adjunct Professor of Clinical Pharmacology at Florida A&M University, Medical Director of Financial Benefit Group, Inc. Medical Advisor for Professional Review Organization of Florida, and Quality Assurance Medical Consultant for Office of Disability Determinations in Tallahassee, Florida. Additionally, he has produced numerous scientific articles and publications. Dr. Elkins has received many civilian honors, not the least of which was having a previously unknown strain of the St. Louis Encephalitis Virus named "The Elkins Virus" for its discoverer. |

Obituary: Mr. John Felix Petrulis, Sr. age 82, of Jupiter, Florida passed away on 10, 2017 with his loving wife by his side. John was born in South Boston, Massachusetts on 26, 1934 to the late Felix and Amelia Petrulis. He attended Harvard University. Harvard, he began work at a car dealership where he met the woman who would become his wife, Nancy, by holding her car back for repairs until he could work up the nerve to ask her on a date. The pair moved to Topsfield, MA, and welcomed the addition of two beautiful children, Laurie and John Felix Jr., who loved to help at the family-owned business, Ocean Pontiac. the kids were grown, John and Nancy began the second part of their life by moving to Jupiter Farms, FL. While John had every intention of retiring, his love of cars won out, and he began a sec ond career a t Grieco Mazda in Delray Beach. Johns work ethic and passion for cars was unmatched, and he continued working there until his passing. He is survived by his wife Nancy Petrulis of Jupiter Farms, Florida; his son John F. Petrulis Jr. and wife Kim of Neodesha, Kansas, his daughter Laurie Innis of Stuart, Florida; loving grandchildren Caitlin Innis, Abby Petrulis, Matt Petrulis, Tabitha Dudak, and Donnie Innis; and his brother Albert Petrulis and wife Millie of Medford, Massachusetts. Obituary: John Inzer Alford, III 2/2/1954, an Emmy-winning, freelance videographer and resident of Tallahassee, FL, died at the age of 62 on 28, 2016 in Tallahassee, FL, after a fight with cancer. John was an avid fisherman, storyteller, boater, and traveler, who enjoyed the outdoors to the fullest, especially in the company of his lifelong friends. He loved his Seminoles (FSU class of 76) and listening to the Braves on the radio. John was preceded in death by his father John Inzer Alford Jr. and his mother Lorena Reames Alford. He is survived by his loving wife of 39 years, Cheryl Rudd Alford, his two daughters and their husbands Alison Alford Gibson (Carlisle) and Kaitlin Alford Walker (Andrew), his two sisters Catherine Mann and Phoebe Alford, and his brother Jeff Alford. He is additionally survived by his loyal companion, Deacon, the old lady cat Cassie, and three granddogs (Annabelle, Captain, and Beauregard). Obituary: John H. (Jay) Worsham, Jr. went to be with his LORD quietly while at his home in Umatilla, FL on May 8, 2014. He was 71 years old. Born to Howard and ClaraBelle Worsham in Orlando, FL, he graduated from Lakeview High School and went on to achieve his Bachelors and Masters degrees from Rollins , where he graduated with honors. graduation he married Mary Gardner and they made their home on Lake Rose in West Orange , raising three children, Kathy, John and Bill. growing up as a member of the Orlando Reformed Presbyterian Church, his natural ability as a leader was put to use as music director, deacon and elder in the church. For thirty years he worked for the City of Orlando as Bureau Chief of Fleet Maintenance and as Director of Administrative Support. Following retirement Jay worked briefly as a commercial real estate agent. When an opportunity to sell a horse ranch in Lake presented itself, he saw this as Gods direction for him. He quickly recognized it as an ideal place for family and friends to gather. Jay and Mary moved to the country, where they were frequently joined by family members and friends. this move, they joined the New Hope Presbyterian Church where he again served as an Elder. Jays love for His Lord and a desire to serve Him and the people around him, led him to minister in a variety of churches, teaching and discipling others. Here, as everywhere he went, he kept those around him laughing and light hearted with his gentle humor and thoughtful ways. His love for God and people was demonstrated by his generosity and willingness to help anyone in need. He enjoyed many aspects of Gods creation, including raising animals, fishing, farming, and sitting on the porch watching a good rain storm. Jay is survived by his wife Mary and children Kathy, John, and Bill; as well as Jeff Milroy, Kathys husband and their six children Kayla, Jayson, Kyle, Justin, Jared and Keenan, and Johns wife Bonnie and daughter Abby. He is also survived by his brother Joe Worsham and his family and sister Susan Worsham Vogt and her family. Those wishing to celebrate his life may join us at Woodlawn for the Graveside Service at 2:00 pm on May 13th, the Reception following, and/or the Memorial Service to be held at New Hope Presbyterian Church in Eustis at 6:30pm with a Reception following. Obituary: John Gillespie Gross, Sr. 25, 1920 \ 29, 2014 John Gillespie Gross, Sr. passed away peacefully on 29, 2014. He was born 25, 1920 in Osborn, Missouri to John George and Catherine Lawson Gross. He lived a long and rewarding life. John grew up in a farming family during the Great Depression with 3 older sisters in Osborn, Missouri. being the Valedictorian of his high school class, he graduated from the University of Missouri in 1942 with a degree in Agriculture. World War II interrupted his career path and he became a navigator for B-17 aircraft in the Army Air Corps. He served in the 95th Bomb Group where he flew 35 missions from England to the European Theatre. He was awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross, four Oak Leaf Clusters and seven battle stars. the war, he resided in Plattsburg, Missouri and taught a vocational program to returning veterans. It was there that he met his future wife, Alice Louise Best. were married in Platte City, Missouri on 6, 1949. Soon after that he was recalled to active duty and served as an instructor for B-29 aircraft at Randolph Field in San Antonio, Texas. Their son, John, Jr. was born during this time. John left the military with the rank of Captain. returned to Missouri where John worked as an Extension Agent. He earned his M.S. in Extension Education from the University of Missouri \ Columbia in 1962. He then became Extension Director in Harrison , Bethany, Missouri. moved to Lincoln, Nebraska in 1965 where he earned his Ph.D. in Adult Education with a concentration in Educational Research and Evaluation from the University of Nebraska. Columbia, Missouri ultimately became their home when John became a Professor of Extension Education at the University of Missouri, and subsequently became the Chairman of the Department. His students included graduate school candidates from 24 countries. A special assignment with the Federal Extension Service in Washington, D.C. enabled John to collaborate on a textbook on Adult and Continuing Education, which was published in 1984. John retired from the University of Missouri in 1991with the status of Professor Emeritus. John was a devout Christian and a loyal member of the Missouri United Methodist Church in Columbia, Missouri, where he served as an usher for 30 years. He also served as a member of the Administrative Board, Commission on Evangelism, a School teacher, and in other miscellaneous capacities. When he and Alice moved to Pensacola in 2000 to be near their son, they joined the First United Methodist Church where they participated in bridge club, Senior Programs and never missed a service. John was an active member of the Masonic Lodge and the Scottish Rite where he was a dual member of the Columbia Valley and Pensacola Valley. He was awarded to the Knight Commander Court of Honor in 1989. He was also a member of the Moila Temple Shrine in St. Joseph, Missouri. He was a past member of the Scottish Rite Foundation of Missouri. His Honorary Societies included Alpha Zeta, Alpha Pi Zeta, Gamma Sigma Delta, Phi Delta Kappa and Epsilon Sigma Phi. He was a lifetime member of the Farmhouse Fraternity and a member of the National Association of Retired Federal Employees. He was a member of the Kiwanis Club in both Columbia, Missouri and Pensacola, Florida for over 17 years. He participated in the Rotary Club in Bethany, Missouri, the American Legion Post in Columbia, Missouri and the Pensacola Civitan Club. John was preceded in death by his parents and sisters, Wilhelmina Wilcox, Margaret Ehlers and Elizabeth Johnson, and his wife of 59 years, Alice Best Gross. He is survived by his son, John G. Gross, Jr. (Trish) of Pensacola, Florida and his two grandchildren, Dianne Gross and John G. Gross III (Jack), and several nieces and a nephew. The family wishes to thank the caregivers at Pacifica Senior Living Creekside where John resided for the last several years. Their love and care allowed him to live out his last years with dignity. We also thank the staff of Covenant Hospice for making his last days as easy for him as possible. A Service of Celebration of Life led by Dr. Wesley Wachob will be held , 4, 2014 at 2:00 at the Bayview Fisher-Pou Chapel. The family will receive visitors beginning at 1:00. Obituary: John Charles Smith, Jr., 76, of Pensacola, passed away peacefully after a long illness, with family at his side on 01, 2014. He was born the youngest of three children on 9,1937, in Aurora, IL and was rasied there by parents, John C. Smith, Sr. and Sarah Helen Kyes Smith. He leaves behind his two daughters, Christina (Asif) Malik and Jennifer (Chris) Dykes; 5 grandchildren; , Ashley, Jesse, Faisal & Faizan. He was predeceased by sisters, Wilma Moss and Mary Hazier. At 19, John enlisted in the Navy and served for 29 years at various duty assignments. He then worked at Pensacola Jr. for a number of years. John was a member of American Legion Post 240, the Warrington Elks 2108, Am Vets 292 and VFW Post 706, where he made many of his closest friends. He loved the outdoors and stayed active by going on fishing, boating and camping trips with his friends and family. He was loved, respected and will be missed by many. A visitation will be held at Oak Lawn on , 5, 2014 from 5pm to 7pm. The funeral, officiated by Pastor Terry Pool, on , 06, 2014 at 10:30am, followed by full military honors and interment at Barrancas National at 11:45am. There will be a reception to follow at the American Legion 8666 Gulf Beach Hwy Pensacola 32507, from 1pm to 3:30pm. Oak Lawn has been entrusted with arrangements. |

Obituary: Captain John Bryan McKamey. USN (RET) 1935-2010 John Bryan JB McKamey was born 1935 in Greencastle, Indiana the only child of Mary Margaret Bryan and Oscar Lee McKamey of Filmore, Indiana. JB attended Filmore School and Butler University. In 1955 he entered the Naval Aviation Cadet Program and was commissioned an Ensign and received his wings of gold on 1, 1957. McKamey flew ADS with VA-215 making 3 WesPac Cruises on the USS Lexington. He then served as an Instructor pilot with VT-7and VT-9 at NAS Meridian, Mississippi. He attended Safety School at the University of Southern California before joining VA-23 aboard the USS Midway and began flying combat missions in Southeastern Asia in 1965. on 2, 1965, while flying his A-4 on his 21st combat mission, McKameys aircraft was hit by enemy fire and he was forced to eject over North Vietnam and was immediately captured. JB was released on 12, 1973 during Operation coming after being held as a Prisoner of War for 7 Years and 8 months. his return he was attached to VA-125 at Lemoore, California until May 1974. JBs next assignment was as Commanding Officer of VT-9 at NAS Meridian. His next orders sent him to Mayport, FL and the USS Saratoga as ships Navigator. Captain McKamey, while attached to Naval ROTC program in the University of Jacksonville, received dual BA degrees in Communication and English from the University of North Florida. Captain McKamey served as Executive Officer as NAS Key West (Boca Chica) and received a Humanitarian Service Award during the Cuban Mariel boat lift. JB then commanded Mobile Mine Assembly Group in Charleston, S. C. Next McKameys became the Commanding Officer of NAS Pensacola from 1982-1984 Captain McKameys last assignment was on the CNET staff. McKameys decortion include the Silver Star(2), Legion of Merit w/V, Braonze Star, w/V and the Purple Heart (2), Meritorious Service Medal w/V (3). Captain McKamey retired from the United States Navy after 30 years honorable and heroic service to our nation. He Returned With Honor. his retirement JB service 7 years as the Public Affairs Officer at NAS Pensacola. JB was a Duplicate Bridge Life Master and avid NASCAR fan. JB is survived by a loving family; his wife Nancy Hoopes McKamey and 3 children; Janice and Steven Sowers of Jacksonville, FL, Jacquelyn Fraley of Austin, TX, and John and Janet McKamey of Gainesville, FL, nine grandchildren and four great grandchildren. Visitation will be at Oak Lawn on 619 New Warrington Road, , 17, 2010 from 4:30 to 6:30 P.M. services will be held at the Naval Aviation Memorial Chapel (Base Chapel) On , 18, 2010 at 1:00 P.M. followed by a graveside Barrancas National at 2:00 P.M.
