Obituary: Miller, John Maurice, Jr., 93, of Richmond VA died , 4, 2016 at Spring Arbor of Richmond. Born 6, 1922 in Richmond VA, Miller was graduated from St. Christophers School in 1941. His years as a Washington and Lee undergraduate were interrupted by World War II. He joined the U.S. Army Air Corps, married Ada Mae Whayland, and trained to fly a B-17. During the war he was stationed at Bury St. Edmunds in England, and after the May 1945 German surrender he flew transport missions for the Army all over Western Europe and Northern Africa until 1946. Miller returned to his wife and home and resumed his studies at Washington and Lee. He was admitted to the Virginia Bar Association and was graduated from Washington and Lee School of Law, in that order, in 1949. He was a member of Sigma Society at Washington and Lee. He moved to Richmond with his wife and daughters to begin his legal career at Southern States, after which he worked for Hunton and Williams. In the 1950s he joined the Law Department at Life Insurance of Virginia/Richmond Corp. Twenty five years later he retired as General Counsel and Senior Vice President. He served the insurance industry influencing legislation in the General Assembly in Richmond. He was active in the Association of Life Insurance Counsel, serving as president in 1975. Miller joined Mays & Valentine in 1978 and continued his law practice well past his 65th birthday. He and Ada Mae cherished their life together. appreciated their opportunities to travel extensively in the United States, Europe, Turkey and India. loved the traditional gatherings in Richmond each summer when five generations from both sides of the family shared stories old and new. Miller is predeceased by his parents John Maurice and Marguerite Watkins Miller, his wife Ada Mae Miller, his daughter Carter Miller Forrester, and his grandson Randolph Patteson Green. He is survived by his daughters Elizabeth Miller Green (John) of Centennial, CO and Nancy Watkins Miller of Richmond; his dear son-in-law Charles Tucker Forrester III and his friend Phyllis Mead of Alexandria VA; and his beloved grandchildren John Branch Green III of Littleton, CO, Wesley Forrester Dowdy (Josh) of Roanoke, VA, and Madeline Carter Forrester of Washington, D.C. His great grandchildren were a joy for the final eight years of his life. are Charles Randolph and Lillian Marie Green, children of the late Randolph and his widow Amy Green Zimmerman (Troy) of Arlington, TX, and Shepherd Luke and Briar Douglas Dowdy, sons of Wesley and Josh. Obituary: John David Anderson, Jr., 80, of Afton went to be with the Lord May 17, 2015 at his residence. He was born in Crozet on 9, 1934, a son of the late John David, Sr. and Margaret Dameron Anderson. He was a devoted member of Hebron Baptist Church where he served as Chairman of Deacons and served on many other committees over the years. He had traveled on missionary trips to Honduras and Nicaragua, and with his wife were both part of the Disaster Relief Program through the Southern Baptist and had traveled to many disasters as the one in New York City on 11, 2011. He was one of the founding members of the Rockfish Valley Volunteer Fire Department and served on many boards and was a part of the Rescue Squad. He also served as President of the Rockfish Ruritan Club and as District Governor. He worked at Mortons Frozen Foods in Crozet for 38 years as a refrigerator mechanic and retired in 1998 and was employed by a in Fishersville as a currier for the lab of which he really enjoyed until of 2015. He served in the United States Army Medical Corp where he was stationed in Korea from 1952 until 1954. Survivors include his wife, Mary Floyd Anderson; a daughter, Teresa Anderson Davis and husband, Nathan; his precious granddaughter, Natalie Rose Davis; a sister, Dora Caprye and husband, Chuck; two brothers, Coy Anderson and companion, Bobby and Clifton Anderson; as well as a number of nieces and nephews. John was known and loved by many people in and outside the community. He had made a goal in is life to visit all 50 states. He made all with the exception of North Dakota. A funeral service will be held at 11:00 AM on , May 20, 2015 at Hebron Baptist Church with Pastor Billy Coffey officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Military rites will be provide by the American Legion Post 340 graveside. Active pallbearers will be David Graves, Tommy Harvey, Tony Reid, E. G. Pannell, Kenneth Lee and Bo Delk. Honorary pallbearers will be his nieces, nephews and members of the Rockfish Valley Fire Department. Obituary: John Bankovich, Jr., 92, of Lynchburg passed away , 09, 2015, at Westminster Canterbury. He was the husband of Mary Clara Pezzicola Bankovich. Born 1, 1923, in Bethlehem, PA, he was the son of the late John Bankovich, Sr. and the late Mary Horvath Bankovich. John retired after 34 years as a sign fabricator for the New Jersey Department of Transportation and a member of St. Thomas More Catholic Church. John also served our country in the U.S. Army during World War II. He received many medals and honors including the Good Conduct Medal, Presidential Unit Citation, European-African-Middle Eastern Campaign Medal with one bronze service star and one silver service star, World War II Victory Medal, Honorable Service Lapel Button WWII and the Sharpshooter Badge with Carbine Bar. In addition to his parents, John was preceded in death by four siblings, Patricia Grafe, Joseph Bankovich, Katherine Ishoy and Mary Solanti. In addition to his wife, John is survived by his son, John Bankovich, III and his wife Jane of Lynchburg; two grandsons, Dr. Alexander J. Bankovich and his wife Jeanine of San Francisco, CA and Michael J. Bankovich and his wife Lena of Trenton, NJ; and numerous nieces and nephews. Obituary: Harry Lee St. John Jr., 77 of Lynchburg, passed away 12, 2010. He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Bertie Mabe St. John. Born 17, 1932, in Charlotte , he was the son of the late Harry Lee St. John, Sr. and Nellie Dickerson St. John. Mr. St. John was retired from the Lynchburg Police Dept., after 37 years of service, and was a member of the Fraternal Order of Police, in Lynchburg. He was a United States Army Korean war veteran and was a faithful member of Beulah Baptist Church. He was active in his community, and loved to help others. Survivors also include two daughters, Valerie Lindner and husband Donald Lindner Jr., of Lynchburg, and Kathie Avital and husband Rafi, of Merrimack, New Hampshire; his granddaughter, JoAnn Lindner, other relatives and friends. The family will receive friends , 15, 2010, from 6-8:00 p.m. at Whitten Timberlake Chapel, and at other times at the residence. A funeral service will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. on , 16, 2010, at Beulah Baptist Church, by the Rev. Maurice T. McCarthy, Jr.. Interment will follow in Fort Hill Memorial Park.
