Obituary: George Herbert Johnson, 61, passed away peacefully on Sept. 5th, at Good Samaritan Hospital in San Jose, surrounded by family, after battling pancreatic cancer. He was born on Nov. 15th, 1952 in Binghamton, NY, and was the second of four sons of Milo and Evelyn Johnson. Raised and educated first in NY and then in the Bay Area, George graduated from Los Gatos High School in 1970. It was here that he met his wife, Grete Hafstad. married on a rainy afternoon, Feb.1st, 1976, in Los Gatos, and honeymooned in Lake Tahoe. Soon after, they moved to what would become their life-long home on Skyline Blvd \ a place they named with their matching initials: GHJ Tree Farm. I was their first child, born in 1977. In 1980 and 1983, respectively, their sons were born: Dale and Kyle. It may come as a surprise to know he proudly obtained his Private Pilot's License in 1972! George followed in his father's footsteps, working at IBM by day, and in the Christmas trees on Skyline by evening and weekends. At Christmas, he took some of his trees to his parents' Peacock Tree Farm to sell, and later opened his own choose-and-cut Christmas Tree Farm (GHJ Tree Farm), which he operated as late as last year. He also cultivated an orchard of apple trees. He was extremely proud of these apples, and sold and shared them generously over the years. Many knew him for his annual apple cider-making parties. Soon after moving to Skyline, George joined the volunteer fire department, which he ultimately captained for 32 years. In 2007 he retired from his long career at IBM (first in the machine shop, then in procurement), and in 2010 he retired from the South Skyline Volunteer Fire Department, 21. Over the years, if he wasn't at IBM, on a fire call, or in the orchard on a tractor or up a ladder, he was often found cycling with Grete, or doing any of the numerous activities of parenthood with his children. will tell you, he was the best dad they could have ever hoped for. He was a true friend and mentor. George is survived by his daughter Stearns and her husband Joseph and George's granddaughter Nia of Santa Cruz, CA; his son Dale Johnson and his partner Amy Mecchi and Amy's daughter Ella of Coarsegold, CA; his son Kyle Johnson and his wife Whitney and George's grandchild on the way of Coos Bay, OR. He is also survived by his brother Milo Johnson and his wife Jill of Palo Cedro, CA; and his brother Craig Johnson and his wife Ramona of Colorado Springs, CO. He is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews, aunts and cousins. George was preceded in death by his wife Grete; his father Milo A. Obituary: George Robert (Bob) Johnson passed away at home in Banning on 2, 2014, with his son, Lindsay at his side. He was an only child, born in London, England, on 23, 1925. Bob was raised in London until the beginning of World War II, when he, like hundreds of children in London, was sent to the countryside by government arrangement to escape the bombing. As soon as he was could, Bob joined the Royal Army and served in the Westminster Dragoons in a tank division, taking part in D-Day. His parents passed away during World War II. the end of World War II, he worked as a Military Police officer before returning to London. He played soccer professionally while also working at various newspapers. In London he met and married the love of his life, Alice Lillian Smith. enjoyed dancing, listening to music together and going to sporting events throughout London. In the late 1950s they emigrated to Hamilton, Ontario, Canada where their son, Lindsay Scott Johnson, was born and Bob earned his accounting degree. From Canada, they moved to Southern California, eventually settling in Northern San Diego . While in the San Diego area Bob worked as a hospital administrator for the Scripps Hospitals in La Jolla and Encinitas. The whole family became avid fans of the UCLA Bruins and Bob and Alice often traveled to see the team play football games on the road. they retired in 1990, Bob and Alice moved to the Sun Lakes Community near the 11th green. enjoyed the sense of community, made good friendships, STILL had UCLA Bruins football season tickets and were active socially until Alice passed away too soon in 1998. her passing Bob enjoyed time with family and friends and continued to enjoy UCLA Bruins football as recently as this past season when he and Lindsay would attend games together. Bob is survived by his son Lindsay, daughter-in-law Laurie, and twin granddaughters Chelsea and Kaitlin. A celebration of Bob's life will be held on 23, 2014 at the Sun Lakes Country Club. Obituary: G.L. Johnson, longtime Senior Pastor of Church went home to be with his Lord on , 29, 2011 in Fresno, California at the age of 83. He succumbed to cancer of the bile duct. George Lee "G.L." Johnson was born on 24, 1928, in Houston, Texas, the son of a Baptist minister. He married Jacqueline "Jackie" Cockerell in 1950. He was ordained as a minister in Fort Worth, Texas in 1951. Over the course of his ministry, Reverend Johnson worked as youth speaker, pastor, and evangelist throughout the United States as well as associate director of Latin American Orphanage before coming to Fresno. Pastor Johnson became Senior Pastor of Church in 1963 and served faithfully for 45 years until his retirement on 24, 2008. Even in retirement as Pastor Emeritus, he continued to serve when called upon by the church, assisting in funerals, weddings, and visitation. He served on several international religious boards as well as local ministry boards. He was instrumental in starting Fresno Christian Schools in cooperation with other local pastors and churches. As a frequent conference speaker he ministered in over 50 countries and conducted numerous pastors´ seminars around the world. His name is included on many "lists" of well-known pastors and church builders. He has ministered to large crowds in Seoul, Korea, with Dr. Cho; to leaders in Russia following the fall of Communism; and to believers in Romania and China, two countries once thought closed forever to the Gospel of Jesus Christ. He and his friend, the late Pastor Bufe Karraker (then pastor of Northwest Church), gathered church and local leaders to tackle the issue of crime in Fresno. started the No Name Fellowship and organized the Pastors´ Prayer Summit. Pastor Johnson was the recipient of Honorary Doctorate Humane Letters (Southern California Theological Seminary); Litterarum Doctorate (California Graduate School of Theology); Distinguished Service Award of the City of Fresno; Fresno Centennial´s 100 Prominent Citizens; "Mayor of Fresno for the Day" (1973 and 1987); Paul Harris Fellow - Rotary Foundation, just to name a few. So many pastors in the community have referred to him as the "Pastors´ Pastor" or the "Bishop of Fresno." would come to him for counsel and advice; they trusted him. Christianity Today journalist Tim Stafford wrote, "Somehow he (G.L. Johnson) has managed to inspire more appreciation than jealousy from other pastors (in Fresno)." In 2006 the G.L. Johnson Chapel was dedicated in his honor. It will stand on the campus of Church to serve as a reminder of the legacy he leaves to the church and the community he served. The family would like to extend their appreciation and gratitude for the prayers, cards, and to those who have been by their side showing care and concern during these past months. George O. Wood, General Superintendent of the Assemblies of God said, "When I think of dignity, grace, leadership, kindness, breadth of vision and servant leadership, I think of G.L. and Jackie Johnson, two of the finest people God ever made!" Johnson is survived by Jackie Johnson, his wife of 61 years; his daughter, Cindy Pine and her husband Kevin of Fresno; granddaughters, Chyresse Hill and her husband Chris of Sacramento, California, Jill Sanders and her husband Dan of Richland, Washington; and great-grandson, Jacob Lee Sanders. Within the next few weeks his oldest granddaughter, Chyresse, will give birth to a great-grandson with the middle name, Johnson. Remembrances may be made to the G.L.
