Obituary: Our much loved father, husband, brother, grand-father, great-grandfather and friend, returned home on , 13, 2017. Dad passed away peacefully, embraced in love and surrounded by family. Einar was born 1, 1921 in Winter Quarters, Utah to Einar H. Johnson and Pearl May Menzies.

Dad moved with his family to Provo, Utah around 1927. Dad was industrious and hard working. Surviving the difficulties of the depression, Dad often had both a morning and evening paper route and sold magazine subscriptions to help support his family. While in Provo, he earned his pilots license, met Eva Joy - the love of his life, enlisted in the U.S. Air Corp, and proudly served in World War II. the war, he returned to Provo, attended BYU and on Sept 16, 1946, Einar and Eva Joy Thompson were married in the Salt Lake Temple. they finished at BYU, Mom taught and coached in high school and Dad attended the University of Oregon and earned a graduate degree in Architecture and Design. graduation in 1953, they moved to Salt Lake City, Dad practiced architecture and they designed and built their dream home together. Their home was always filled with love and encouragement for all who entered.

Dad was a faithful member of the LDS church and served in numerous callings. Dad loved all sports; he played baseball and boxed in his youth. He also loved to hunt and fish. He was always in the front row for his childrens concerts, plays and events. He also coached many little league baseball teams. Einar was a dedicated husband and father who worked tirelessly and sacrificed eagerly for the welfare of his children and family. He loved us all unconditionally. Dads positive can-do attitude was contagious and he made us all believe that there wasn anything we couldn do. He was the perfect example of the Greatest Generation.

Professionally, Dad was a talented architect. He designed many homes, churches and buildings around the Salt Lake valley and state. In his later years he became a champion for those with special needs, writing the States formal handicapped building code. He was recognized by the Governor for his selfless service and forward thinking for those with disabilities. He not only had a private practice but he worked for the State of Utah for over 40 years. While working for the state he oversaw the design and construction of buildings on many of the States university campuses. retiring in his late seventies, Dad spent his time with his family, traveling and reading. We are grateful for Dads full life and his reunion with Mom.

Einar is survived by his five children: Jaynann (Jay) Charlesworth, Nannette (Ron) Reber, Einar Douglas (Cindy) Johnson, Carolyn Robinson and Jennifer (Blake) Howell, 14 grandchildren and 14.5 great-grandchildren and sister-in-laws, Kitty Johnson and Marba Thompson; preceded in death by his wife, Joy in Dec 2004, his parents, 3 sisters; Jessie, Amina and Norma and brothers; Robert, Allan and Eugene.

Services and a celebration of Dads life will be held on , 21, 2017 at 11:00 a.m. at the Fortuna Ward Chapel, 4407 South Fortuna Way (3600 East). Friends may call at the viewing morning 9:30-10:30 am at the Fortuna chapel prior to the service. Interment: Wasatch Lawn Memorial Park. The family would like to express love and thanks to Lindah Leonard, Felicia Esquivel and others for their compassionate service in helping with Dads care over the last several months.

He was preceded in death by his older brother Kelsey Johnson. Dad grew up during the Great Depression under humble economic circumstances. As a youth and throughout his life, he was very ambitious and goal oriented. He was well liked by the people in his life because of his interesting, caring and friendly personal ways. These qualities served him well as he worked diligently to fulfill his lofty goals and expectations. He served in the military during WWII as a US Army Air Core fighter pilot. the war he married Lucy E. Watts (Johnson) of Logan, UT where he attended Utah State University for his BA degree in Business. He then went on to New York University where he was awarded his MBA & PhD in The School of Business. Dr. Johnson was noted for his academic achievements in Marquis Whos Who 1987-88. In addition to being a loving and caring father he was also a mentor to hundreds of students worldwide over the years assisting them in achieving their educational and career goals. He lived both in Europe and Japan and traveled the world as a business consultant. He took the opportunity to teach at Schiller in West Germany and at Tokyo University in Japan. Valued and appreciated by all the people with whom he associated, Dr. Johnson maintained close friendships with hundreds of people in the U.S., as well as those abroad. Our father lived most of his life in both New York and California and retired to the mountains near Lake Tahoe, where he built a beautiful log home in the early 1990s by a lake. In retirement, he enjoyed flying his private plane, volunteering with the Eldorado Sheriff Office in the Search & Rescue Team for many years and staying active in the local LDS Church & community in charity events. This is what our father was all about; trying to help other people at all times, exhibiting love and kindness to his fellow man and helping those around him who were less fortunate. Also, dad had a great love for nature and his lush surroundings. He built a wonderful library of books from around the world which he enjoyed reading among the pine trees of the Sierra mountains. He genuinely appreciated the wonders and beauty of nature and relished walking and hiking in his beloved California mountains. He truly had an interesting and fulfilling life. Private services will be held in San Francisco, CA. In Lieu of flowers, please contribute to your favorite charity and help someone in your local community. Dad was unique on many levels and his personality was contagious. Our hearts are broken and he will be missed by all! Condolences may be sent to the family at: www.walkersanderson.com
