Obituary: JUDSON Ruth Taft Beakley Judson passed away peacefully on 9th, 2014 at the age of 91. Ruth was born in Ft. Worth, Texas on 4th, 1922, the second child of Ruth Taft and George G. Beakley. She graduated from Jefferson High School in 1940 where she met and later married the late George Eugene Judson, Jr. Ruth attended Incarnate Word and The University of Texas at Austin and was a member of the Zeta Tau Alpha sorority and Nu Upsilon Tau Tau (NUTT). Ruth and George married on Sept. 13, 1943, and remained devoted to one another for 67 years until Georges death in 2010. Ruth was always a strong, independent, and industrious woman, and an eternal optimist. Even while George was away as a naval officer during WWII and again during the Korean Conflict, she happily maintained the homestead, raising their three small boys who were born between the wars. Ruth was an avid horsewoman and loved all aspects of outdoor life. She founded and operated The Little Acorn (kindergarten) School from 1952 to 1960 from their country home off Prue Road. She later worked as the bookkeeper at St. Marks Episcopal Church and at Mini Mansions Christian bookstore. Her faith in God and her love for her husband and children were the foundation of her life. Ruth was a member of St. Marks Episcopal Church, the San Antonio Country Club and participated in events with the Texas Cavaliers where her husband was King Antonio in 1970. She is preceded in death by her husband George Eugene Judson, Jr., by their son Charles Jeffrey Judson, and by her sister, Alice Walker. She is survived by her four boys, Greg Judson and wife Stella and daughter Kaye; Steve Judson and wife Mary Gail and granddaughters Ruth Judson Knapik and her husband Blake and Page Judson Kruse and her husband Jonathan and great-grandchildren Dylan and Taylor Kruse and Miles Judson Knapik; Jim Judson and wife Gay, grandson Ben and his wife Callie Enlow; Jeff Judson and wife Margaret Mickler Judson, and granddaughter Anna Louise, and grandsons Will and George. MEMORIAL SERVICE SATURDAY JANUARY 25, 2014 11:00 A.M. ST. MARKS EPISCOPAL CHURCH 315 EAST PECAN. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. Marks Episcopal Church, Morningside Ministries Covenant Fund, 700 Babcock Road San Antonio, TX 78201, or to the Cibolo Nature at 140 City Park Rd., Boerne, TX 78006. Obituary: Millard William Judson, age 79, was born 6, 1924 in San Antonio, Texas and died 17, 2003. He was a native San Antonian who graduated from Jefferson High School in 1941. A Merchant Marine during WWII, Millard returned to graduate from the University of Texas as a mechanical engineer, after which he worked with Judson Candies for many years. Later, he became Chief Engineer at University Hospital and retired in 1995. Millard was a member of the Texas Society of Professional Engineers, Alamo Kiwanis and Town Club, and he also served as President of the NISD School Board of Trustees. An active member of Alamo Heights United Methodist Church, Millard will be remembered as an avid outdoorsman, hunter, fisherman and a great story teller. His robust, enthusiastic laugh brightened most all of his conversations. Millard was preceded in death by his first wife, Mary Bush Judson, and is survived by his wife of 16 years, Jean Koebel Judson; his daughters and sons-in-law, Rosemary and Bob Janney, Carol and James Fallon, and Jean and Tom Countryman; step-son and wife, Andy and Koebel; and step-daughter and husband, Melanie and Lt. Col, Kenneth Polasek. Millard will be greatly missed as well by his grandchildren, Robert, Jessica, Elizabeth, Jennifer, Jaclynn, Matthew, William, Rachel and Stephen; his step-grandchildren, Brandon and Emily Howard, and Leticia Smith; his brother and sister-in-law, George and Ruth Judson; his sister, Whitaker Miller; many nieces and nephews. Pallbearers will be Bill Bode, Clay Roby, Fred Sumner, Stan Kuenstler, and Ed Cody. |

Obituary: All who knew George E. Judson knew him to be a man of extraordinary character and integrity. In kindness, generosity, humility, and courage he was both high and steady. George was honest to the core, gifted in intelligence, warmly humorous, self-disciplined and exact. He consistently placed others before himself. From these core qualities he lived a life of loving service to God, country, family, and community. George Eugene Judson, Jr., 89, went home to the Lord on 21, 2010. He lived joyfully with his beloved wife of 67 years, Ruth Taft Beakley Judson, 88, who survives him. Born in San Antonio in 1921, George graduated from Thomas Jefferson High School in 1939 and from The University of Texas at Austin in 1943, earning a degree with highest honors in aeronautical engineering. George and Ruth married in 1943. During World War II, George worked with Douglas Aircraft Co., and then joined the Navy in 1944. He served honorably defending his country in combat in the Pacific theater, where he was an officer assigned to Amphibious Landing Forces. He was discharged in May 1946. George was recalled to active duty during the Korean conflict where he served as Lieutenant aboard an ammunition ship in the Sea of Japan. WWII George spent most of his professional life as a senior manager at the Judson Candy , a family-owned company founded in 1945 by his father, George Judson, Sr., and located at 831 South Flores currently the Judson Lofts condominiums with the aid of his three uncles, Bill, Jack, and Tom. George invented the still-popular âChewy PralineâÂ- in his home kitchen, as well as the âChocolate Divinity.âÂ- At its peak, Judson Candy produced over 100 varieties of candy. From 1974 until his retirement in 1985, George was a partner in Loyd, Judson & Associates, a profit sharing and pension actuarial consulting firm. For his entire life George was an active member of St. Marks Episcopal Church where he served in many capacities, including senior warden of the vestry. He was active with the Boy Scouts of America, Rotary Club International, the San Antonio Country Club, and the Texas Cavaliers, where he reigned as King Antonio XLVIII in 1970. George had a deep love of the outdoors where he hiked, camped, hunted, and fished with family and friends throughout his life. He led his children and grandchildren to become stewards of nature everywhere, and particularly at the family estate on Prue Road, the Circle J Ranch in Kendall , and the Medina Ranch in Medina . George was a long-time supporter of the Nature Conservancy. George also had a deep appreciation of art, both modern and ancient. He developed an extensive pre-Columbian collection, most of which he donated to the San Antonio Museum of Art. He was an amateur archaeologist and participated in excavations regionally and in Central America and with the UTSA Archaeology Department. George is preceded in death by his mother and father, George Eugene Judson, Sr., and Violet Millard Judson, his brother, Millard, his fourth son, Charles Jeffrey, and his grandson Joshua Judson. He is survived by his beloved wife, Ruth, their four sons and families — Greg Judson, wife Stella, and granddaughter Kaye; Steve Judson, wife Mary Gail, granddaughter Page Judson Kruse, her husband Jonathan and great grandchildren, Dylan and Taylor Kruse; Ruth Taft Judson Knapik and husband Blake; Jim Judson, wife Gay and grandson Ben; Jeff Judson, wife Margaret and grandchildren Anna Louise, Will and George. He is also survived by his sister, Judson Miller, s four living daughters, and his brother Millards three daughters. Wife Ruth called him, a perfect husband. He had a consistently positive attitude, a wonderful sense of humor, and brought joy to everyone during his life up until the day he died. George will be greatly missed by family and friends.
