Obituary: Walter Ray Jones, 95 of Tyler, passed away on , 18, 2016 in Tyler. He was born on 15, 1925 in Jacksonville, TX to Walter Graves Jones and Beulah Mae Stegall Jones. He was the third born of four children.

At a very early age, Ray knew he wanted to be a Marine and a day after he was legally able to enter the Marine Corp, Ray did and traveled and lived all over the world during his 30 year career in the Marine Corp. Walter participated in three wars, World War II, Korea and Vietnam; he could also tell you from memory all the dates and places he was deployed to; places like, Guadalcanal, Bougainville, Mariana Islands, Kwajalein, Guam, Frankford, Okinawa, Kwang Tree, Cherry Point and Washington, D.C., retiring as a 1st Sergeant, Ray served as a Marine Corp Legal Specialist when not in combat. retirement Ray joined the teaching staff of University of North Carolina, establishing their first Sea Grant Program and maintaining that program for 8 years before retiring again to move back to Texas to be near family.

Walter was an active United Methodist. He was a scout leader and church board member in New Bern, North Carolina. In Tyler he was a member of Cedar Street United Methodist. Ray served in many Board positions at Cedar Street, and enjoyed fixing breakfast once a month for the membership.

Ray's hobbies included fishing and gardening. Even in the later stages of illness, Ray kept a tomato garden and enjoyed the science of growing the biggest, sweetest tomatoes in Tyler. Ray was a member of the Tyler Elks Lodge where he served in many positions from cook to president.

Preceding him in death are his parents, his older brother, Billy, his younger sister, Wanda Cox. Also preceding him in death was his first wife Olie and their daughter Raeanna of New Bern, North Carolina. His sister Grace Willis survives him.

Ray and his wife, Rev. Dr. Karen Jones want to thank church members and friends for their help during his extended illness; especially Dr. Kenneth Cushman, Dr. James McAndrews, Cleta Shine, Pat Boyse and Ola Muse. To the crew at DeHaven Eye , you'll never know how often Ray was with you, even on his sickest days.

Visitation will be held form 6:00-8:00 PM, , 22 at Tyler Memorial . services will be held at 10:00 am, , 23 at the funeral home, with Rev. Marlin Fenn, Rev. Gerry Giles and Rev. Allen Van Hooser officiating.

Mr. Jones flew the ÂEnola Gay on its last flight to the Smithsonian Museum in Washington D.C. He also did flight testing at Kelly Field for many years. He was most recently employed as a ranch foreman. Mr. Jones was a 32nd Degree Master Mason and a member of the Highland Hills Masonic Lodge and Shearer Hills Baptist Church. He also enjoyed fishing and hunting and served as a scout leader for many years. He was a lover of animals and helped many stray dogs find a loving home. Mr. Jones was also a member of the Bexar SheriffÂs Reserve Officers Association. He was preceded in death by his wife, Doris Marie Jones and parents, and his brother, Donald and sister, Ruth. Survivors: daughters, Brenda King, San Antonio; son, Steve Jones, Bandera, TX; granddaughter, Chelsee Jones, San Antonio; grandson, Christopher King, Austin, TX; numerous nieces and nephews; brother, David Jones; sisters-in-law, Wanda Jones, both of New Bern, NC and Glenda Wiley, San Antonio; best friend, James D. Obituary: Walter Curry Jones was born 22, 1924 in Blanco, OK to the late W.B. and Pearl Jones. He departed for his heavenly home on 24, 2010.
The family will receive friends on , 27, 2010 from 6:00 to 7:00 pm at Resthaven . A celebration of life service will be held at 11:00 am, , 28, 2010 at Oakwood Baptist Church. Interment will follow at Peaceful Gardens.
W. C. enlisted in the Navy serving during WWII in the Pacific Theater in Okinawa, Iwo Jima and Saipan. He married Emma Jean Miller, 17, 1944; she preceded him in death in 2006.
Together they raised two sons, Ronald (Jo Carol) and Keith (Angela). W.C. was the owner of W.C. Jones Electrical Contractors in Lubbock for many years, retiring in 1987. He was a member of International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers, Local Union 850 for 65 years.
W. C. loved to fish, ride horses and watch the Atlanta Braves play baseball. He also enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren, Wade and Lyle of Lubbock, Allyson Jones Labban of Burlington, N. C. and Christopher and Rachel Jones of Knoxville, TN.
Besides his wife, he was preceded in death by sister; Ola Davis, Sally Collins, and Clara Thomas.
He leaves behind his sons and their wives, grandchildren, special niece; Charolette Smith; and many other nieces and nephews.
Special thanks goes to the staff at Sisters Loving Arms and Accolade Hospice staff for their compassion and care during his final months.
