Obituary: Mary D. Jones was born in Cameron, Oklahoma on 31, 1927 and passed away peacefully in her sleep on 1, 2015 at 88 years young. She was the youngest of six children. She loved to play baseball and basketball and would pull a prank on anyone. She attended Northeastern University in Oklahoma and then moved to Tulsa where she met Robert Jones on a blind date and married him 3 months later in , 1949. She and Robert were married for 59 years and had two children, Julia Jones Oldham, who lives in Katy, and Russell Jones, who lives in Austin. Even though her health declined after her stroke at 75, her spirit and sense of humor remained unchanged. She loved to play games and made friends as she moved to assisted living and recently to a memory care facility in Katy. Mary loved her family and friends and kept her optimism and sense of humor throughout her life. She will be missed by all who knew her. Obituary: Born on the fourth of , her vibrant personality reflected the excitement of the day. She was vivacious, optimistic, loved her family, church, and friends, loved to travel, sew, cook, entertain, garden, knew how to make the best of any situation, and was always there to help when needed. Mary left this home for her heavenly reward on 8, 2015 at age 94 while living in Lakeway, Texas with her daughter, Marian. Her parents, Frederick William Matthews and Hazel Leota Gibson were early settlers in the Twin Territories of Oklahoma, living in Grainola when Mary was born in 1920. completing high school in Pampa, Texas, Mary moved with her father to Freer in 1936 during the Texas oil boom and met a red curly-haired young man with whom she was to share the next 71 years, Oswald Donald Jones, Jr., known as Little Red. O.D. was not only a Freer star football player, but was also instrumental in naming the team the Buckaroos. His football jacket, donated by Mary, is displayed in the schools gymnasium showcase, much too small for any current Freer high school athlete. Mary and O.D. began their family with their firstborn son, Donald Lee, born in Freer, and then moved to Corpus Christi where O.D. worked for ButterKrust Bakeries. Since O.D. could not serve in WWII, because of a physical issue, he worked double shifts in the absence of his fellow workers serving in the military. During this time, Mary and O.D. added sons, Kenneth Wayne and Norman Davis to the family. In 1949, the family moved to Victoria where O.D. was self-employed and operated numerous businesses including the Stop-And-Shop, IGA Food Liner, Ace Stamp and Jones Family Monuments along with son, Don. During this time, Mary decided she would enroll in accounting courses at the Victoria . She then served as the stores bookkeeper and then was employed by Goad Boles Motor and Bankston Insurance. In 1956, Mary and O.D. added the final member to the family, a daughter, Marian Aleta. The next year, Mary became an accountant for the Victoria Independent School District where she remained until 1985 and retired after her tenure of 28 years as the VISD senior accountant and auditor. In addition to being an accomplished accountant, Mary was an excellent seamstress, top-notch Bridge player, active in the Baptist Womens Missionary Union, sang in the church choir, and wrote poetry. Former VISD Superintendent, C.O. Chandler, was the recipient of many of her poems written for special occasions. Although her family encouraged her to publish her poetry collection, she hesitated thinking they were not good enough. Fortunately, family members have many of them as special remembrances. Preceded in death by O.D. Jones in 2008, as well as her brother and sister, Frederick Matthews and Opal Belew, Mary is survived by her sister, Ernestine Matthews Pitzer of Tampa, Florida and her half-brother, Bobby Jack Matthews of Branson, Missouri. Her sons, Don, Kenneth, and Norman reside in Victoria and Marian lives in Lakeway. Her grandchildren include Jason Kenneth Jones, David Matthews Jones (Sophia), Amber Jones Schustereit Becker, Amanda Jones Sheehan (Danny), Judd Ashley Jones and Ashley Susan Jones Lindsay (Cody). Great grandchildren are Thomas Schustereit, Patrick Schustereit, Jason Schustereit, Andrew Schustereit, Lindsay Sheehan, Hannah Sheehan and one great, great grandchild, Shiloh Sheehan. The family would like to thank Julia Cantu for loving and caring for both our father and their mother during the last years of life and until their death. Mary and Julia became family and best friends during their years together. Our mother loved her dearly and Julia will be forever in our hearts. Also, Texas Hospice for giving care to our mother during the last of her journey especially Sheila, Rose, Linda, Mary and Allen. Pallbearers are Jason Jones, David Jones, Judd Jones, Ashley Jones Lindsay, Amanda Sheehan, Amber Jones Schustereit Becker, Danny Sheehan, Greg Pitzer and Mary Anne Leslie. Obituary: Mary Ann Jones, 90, of San Antonio passed into the arms of our heavenly Father on , May 30, 2011. When recently asked about her secrets to a long, happy life, she said in her sweet yet authoritative voice that a close walk with her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, a positive attitude and lots of time spent with her Âamazing husband of 72 years, Mr. William Carrol Jones Sr., as well as with her family and many friends, were her secrets. Mary Ann lived an inspired and faithful life, one that radiated gratefulness and heartfelt generosity both to those closest to her, like her best friend Dottie Woodworth, and to the many other friends and acquaintances that passed through her HEB store over the past 17 years. Her warm smile was just as big on any average day working in the store as it was when she received HEBÂs top corporate recognition, the Spirit of HEB, awarded to Mary Ann on more than one occasion over the years. The breathtaking mother of three is deeply missed by her son Carrol Jones Jr. and his wife Cheryl, her daughter Debra Mueller and her youngest son Bruce Jones. Memories of the tender love she gave, the childhood fishing trips, the songs she loved to sing, her infectious laugh, and so many other happy moments will be cherished. Her six grandchildren fondly remember the love and affection she gave, as well as the glow of pure joy seen on her face when held tightly by her husband and whirled across the dance floor at each of their wedding receptions. Her nine great grandchildren inherit her story and a legacy that will remind them throughout life to embrace the ones you love, to give generously and to be thankful. She is also survived by her loving brothers Robert Albers, James Albers and Felix Whipple. The family will receive friends from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., , 3, 2011 at Porter Loring Mortuary North.
