Obituary: Memorial services for Danny Ross Joiner, 60, of Lufkin, will be held at 2:00 p.m. , 21, 2014 in the Gipson Chapel, with Lance Joiner officiating. Danny was born 14, 1954 in Lufkin, Texas. He passed away , 15, 2014 at his residence. As a young man, Danny was the youngest assistant manager for Perry Brothers, then moved to sales at the Big Tin Barn, followed by a lengthy career as a builder. He was a member of the Lumbermans International Concatenated Order of the Hoo-Hoo, Inc. He played Little League Baseball, where he was an all-star pick, and was a very good guitarist and singer. He enjoyed riding his motorcycle, playing poker, and was an excellent story-teller. Danny was a devoted Christian, loved the ocean and was the uncrowned King of Padre Island. Survivors include his daughter, Heather Joiner- Tillotson and husband Todd of Durango, Colorado; sons, Lance Joiner and wife Morgan of Houston and Travis Joiner of Houston; grandson, Wyatt Harris Joiner; mother, Robbie Thompson and husband Sterling of Lufkin; brother, Jerry Joiner and wife Tammy of Spring; sisters, Vickie Fincher and husband Bill of Hudson and Kathy Collins and husband DeWayne of Lufkin; and a number of nieces, nephews, other family members and friends. Danny was preceded in death by his father, Eddie B. Joiner. Honorary pallbearers will be Wes Fincher, Leonard Lout, Trey Joiner, Chris Collis, Trent Collins and Todd Tillotson. The family will receive friends from 12:30 p.m. until service time at the funeral home, with refreshments being served. Obituary: a long courageous battle with emphysema and C.O.P.D., Leon joined his Heavenly Father and all his angels 6, 2015. Leon was born in San Angelo, TX to Claynell L. Joiner, Sr. and Hazel Prescott. During the summer of 1964, Leon met the love of his life, Elizabeth Schley. Leon and Liz were married Aug. 5, 1966. receiving his notice from the U.S. Army, Leon decided to enlist into the Army Aug. 29, 1966. all his training Leon went to Vietnam Mar. 1967 to Mar. 1968. During his military career, he was also stationed at Ft. Bragg, NC, Bindlach, Germany, back to Ft. Bragg, Kirchgoens, Germany and Ft. Bliss, TX. Leon retired with 20 years in the U.S. Army in Aug. 1986. retiring, Leon moved his family back to Victoria, TX where he worked at Victoria Bank & Trust as a courier and then at Atzenhoffer Chevrolet delivering parts to various towns. He was currently employed at Atzenhoffer when he recently became ill. Leon was very determined to work even while he as in pain and short of breath. Leon was a great husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather. He loved to play jokes on people and had a great sense of humor. We will always cherish his memories, love him deeply and he will be greatly missed. He is survived by his lovely wife, Liz, of 48 years and 10 months, three daughters, Lisha Joiner of Victoria, TX, Lesli (Rick) Sturm of Yorktown, TX, Leela (Michael) Hallett of Victoria, TX and one son, Christopher (Amanda) Joiner of Victoria, TX, seven granddaughters, two great grandchildren and one sister, Crickett (Ed) Henson of Farmers Branch, TX. He was preceded in death by his parents, two sisters and one granddaughter, Katie Shafer. A Memorial Service will be held at 3:00 pm, , 13, 2015 at Rosewood Chapel with full military honors. Obituary: Mr. Carrol Dean Joiner, age 85, passed away on , 6, 2014 at Nacogdoches Memorial Hospital. He was born in Palo Duro Canyon in Briscoe Texas on 19, 1928 to parents Dan and Beatrice Joiner. A funeral service will be conducted by Bro. John Withem of Shady Grove Baptist Church at Cason Monk-Metcalf Sunset Chapel at 2:00 pm on , 10. Military honors will be presented at the chapel. Interment will follow at the Attoyac . Family and friends are invited to visitation on , 9 at Cason Monk-Metcalf from 5-7 pm. Dean is preceded in death by: parents, Dan Joiner and Beatrice Holloway Joiner; son, Richard Dwain Joiner; daughter, Carla Marie Joiner; brothers, Dwain Joiner and Eddie Joiner. He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Shirley Marie Godsey Joiner of Nacogdoches; daughters, Ramona Joiner Marek and husband, Vladimir of Vancouver, Washington and Donna Carol Joiner of Albuquerque , New Mexico and Nacogdoches; granddaughter, Deana Marie Weaver and husband, Cody of Shady Grove, Tx; grandson, William Austin Haddox of Nacogdoches, Tx; great-granddaughters, Alexis Brooke Scarborough and Danielle Marie Weaver, both of Shady Grove, Tx; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. Deans family moved from Tulia, Texas to the town of Portales in eastern New Mexico where they lived through the Dust Bowl during the Depression. At age 17 he joined the United States Marine Corps and served in World War II and Korea. He served in Marine Fighting Squadron 322 (VMF-322). He also served aboard USS Mindoro (VMF-225) as part of crew testing cold weather gear foreshadowing the coldest Korean winter. His overseas deployment included Marine Air Corps Station Ewa, Oahu, Hawaii; Okinawa, Japan; Espiritu Santo Island; Midway and Guam. Stationed at Camp Pendleton, he was in Marine Observation Squadron (VMO) 6, one of Marine Aviations oldest squadrons, comprised of experienced WWII veterans and deployed to Korea. VMO-6 flew 7,067 wounded Marines to safety during the 30-month Korean conflict before returning stateside to Camp Pendleton in 1955. Military sources cite, for its distinguished Korean combat participation, VMO-6 received three Presidential Citations (one specifically awarded to it as a squadron and two as an organic unit of senior commands), a Navy Unit Commendation, an Army Distinguished Unit Citation and three Korean Presidential Unit Citations. Semper Fi. Dean was baptized in Koreas Han River in 1954. In 1955 he married Shirley Marie Godsey. Dean attended Texas Tech University in Lubbock, Tx and Texas A& I in Kingsville, Tx. He graduated from Stephen F. Austin University with a Bachelors degree in History and Political Science. his military service he worked with Westinghouse Corporation of Houston and Motorola Distributors of Albuquerque, New Mexico. returning to Nacogdoches he finished his career working at Cason-Monk Hardware on Main Street in Nacogdoches, Texas. Dean is remembered as a loving, kind, gentle giant of a man to his family and friends.
