Obituary: WILEY HUGH “Bud” JOHNSON, in loving memory of a beloved father, faithful husband, dear friend, and a righteous man, age 93, passed away triumphantly and peacefully on 30, 2014, at Victoria Gardens of Frisco, in Frisco, Texas. Visitation Service: 6 – 8 o’clock p.m., , Laurel Land , 6000 R.L. Thornton Freeway, Dallas, Texas 75232. Memorial Service: 12 o’clock noon, , Laurel Land Chapel, 6000 R.L. Thornton Freeway, Dallas, Texas 75232. Memorials: Alzheimer’s Foundation. Bud Johnson was born on 31, 1920 (yes, Halloween), in Lamesa, Texas to Grover Cleveland and Mable Aycock Johnson, and was raised in Shallowater, Texas. He is survived by his daughter, Janis Kay Johnson Jackson of Frisco, Texas, and her son, Jeffrey Michael Jensen and his wife Amanda, and three children, Blaide, Gabriel (“Gabe”), and Kai; and daughter Marian Carol Johnson Chadwick and her husband Charles Chadwick, Jr. and his son, William Chadwick and his wife, Kim, and their daughters, Alexa and Katelyn, and grand puppy, Jaxx; and his niece, Linda Stone and husband Pete, and their children Shania, Robert and Kecia, and great nieces Rhonda, Ranae, Robyn and Radonna. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Geneva Delle Woodrow Johnson, of Olney, Texas; his brother, Robert “Bob” Phelemon Johnson and wife, Velva, of Lubbock, Texas, and daughter, Joann Womack; and three sisters, Lula Evelyn Johnson; Lometa Lee and husband Olen Lee; Mary Maurine McCallum and husband Lin McCallum; aunts and uncles, Marie Kitchens, R. Virgil Johnson, J. Eargle Johnson, Annie Jenkins-Bish, W. Hubert Johnson, A. Pool Johnson, Velma Middleton, Hoarce M. Johnson, C. Carl Johnson, R. Ralph Johnson, Mary Etta Barrett, Clovis R. Johnson, and J.R. Johnson; and his son-in-law, William Jeffrey Jackson, Dallas, Texas. He counted George Hicks and David Hollis as his long-time friends. He graduated from Lamesa High School and served in the U.S. Navy from 1942 to 1946 as a radio man on the U. S. S. Harris and the U. S. S. Guam. the end of World War II, he met the love of his life, Geneva Delle Woodrow, at a refinery while working as a bookkeeper and they were married on 12, 1947. Nine months and four days later, their first bouncing baby daughter, Janis Kay Johnson, was born on 16, 1948, and four and a half years later, their second bouncing baby daughter, Marian Carol Johnson, was born on 18, 1953. In about 1955, Bud, Geneva, Janis and Marian moved to Dallas with Geneva’s father and mother to work for Vernon & James Smith, a construction company who was building some of the first apartments on Corinth in Oak Cliff. Bud and Geneva later began working for A.A. Allen Revivals and moved to Miracle Valley, Arizona, for two years to work for Brother Allen as he opened and operated an international private school to train students to evangelize the world. Upon returning to Dallas, he worked for Christ for the Nations and Brother Lindsay and traveled to Mexico and Belize with Brother Hollis to minister to students and pray for the sick. He later began working for Affiliated Foods and retired after working there for 17 years. During his retirement, he enjoyed raising paint horses and half quarter horse/half thoroughbred horses, Candy, Tie-Me-A-Bow, Little Girl, Ginger, and Sandy, and a menagerie of sheep, goats, Simmental cattle, a variety of finches, and pets that were Afghan Hounds (Eta), Chihuahuas (Penny), Toy Poodles (Cherokee), and Standard Poodles (Jet and Jaxx). He was the proverbial green thumb and planted his favorite soft shell pecan in a coffee can that grew tall enough to provide shade for the whole yard. Our back yard was a small Garden of Eden with a five-in-one apple tree, fig tree, and a peach, plum, and nectarine tree. He grew the largest Hydrangeas, irises, gladiolas and cactus you’ve ever seen. He could just stick it in the ground and it would grow. He taught us how to plant flowers, water them with just the right amount of water, and to enjoy the outdoors. But Bud is best remembered for his love of the Lord. He lived by the scripture, “This is the day the Lord hath made, I will rejoice and be glad.” He was the epitome of what God’s word defined as a truly righteous man. He was a faithful husband who truly understood and lived the meaning of “in sickness and in health” by taking care of his wife, Geneva, during her twelve years of Alzheimer’s. He dressed her daily, fixed her hair and makeup, fed her, loved her when she wasn’t so lovable, and attended to her every need. He was the epitome of what God’s word defined as a godly father. Daddy put God first, then his family, and he loved his daughters, Janis and Marian, with all of his heart. Bud made sure we were in church every and night and taught us at an early age the meaning of tithing when we received our first allowance so that we would never rob God and miss God’s blessings. He taught us the meaning of the fruits and gifts of the Holy Spirit and believed in signs, wonders and miracles, and believed in and taught us to pray for the sick so that they would recover. When we were sick, he prayed for us, and we were healed, and he would say, “What do well people say,” and we would respond, “Thank you Jesus for healing us.” One day I asked Daddy why he wasn’t President of Affiliated Foods after 17 years, because I was sure he had been offered promotion after promotion but had not accepted them. He replied that from the beginning the thought of not coming home to see me and Marian in the driveway on our tricycles was more than he could take and he made a conscious decision to be at home with his family rather than being out of town or working late. That’s how important his family was to him. And the Lord continued... |
