Obituary: Dorothy Marie Johnson, 93, passed away in Pearland, Texas on 9, 2016. She was born in Nacogdoches, Texas on 4, 1923 to parents Ida and John L. Burk. She was a graduate of Central Heights High School. She attended Lilly Grove Baptist Church, played basketball at Central Heights and moved to Houston after graduation. Dorothy married her high school sweetheart James Thomas "Tommy" Johnson. spent 57 years building a life, building businesses and raising a family. retiring they loved taking cruises and traveling in their RV. were soul mates and enjoyed every day together. Dorothy loved working in her yard, planting flowers and watching them grow. She also loved playing slot machines and even had one in her home. Dorothy always had a pet dog and her last dog Daisy was her best friend and companion until Daisy passed away. Mrs. Johnson is preceded in death by her parents; husband, Tommy Johnson; sister, Reba Baker; brothers, Charles Burk and Pete Sitton. Dorothy is survived by her daughter, Lin Post Markham and husband Gary W. Markham of Manvel, Texas; granddaughter, Minda Post of Houston, Texas; brother, Lynn Burk and wife, Ann of Nacogdoches. Obituary: Dorothy May Johnson \ known to her children, grandchildren, and numerous caregivers as Momma Dot \ passed from this life to the next on 12, 2014. Dorothy was the third and youngest daughter of William and Huldah Myrtle (Crook) Anderson \ born on 5, 1921, on the family farm near Cresson, Texas. Growing up with sisters, cousins, and assorted and sundry friends, she grew up during the Roaring 20s (which really weren felt in Central Texas) and the Depression \ which was. She learned to drive the family car at an early age in order to make hauling water from the windmill to the house easier. She graduated from the 11th grade at Cresson in 1938 and went to Godley High School where she graduated the following year. Then it was on to TSCW (now TWU). She often said that she remembered very little about World War II as she was busy studying and passing her classes. She graduated in 1944 with a degree in Economics. She taught Economics at Haskell (TX) High School for a year then joined the Farmers Administration and was sent to the office in Henderson, Texas. It was in Henderson that she met and married the late Charles V. Johnson on 10, 1946. had two children, Mary and Van. lived in Henderson, Nacogdoches, Longview, and Tyler. It was in Tyler where they remained for the next sixty-plus years. Dorothy taught Economics and Economics Cooperative Education in Tyler for 29 years. retiring from teaching, she worked part time for over 20 years at the Tyler Junior . She was an active member of Glenwood United Methodist Church and Fairwood UMC, Glenwoods successor church. She is survived by her daughter, Mary Jarvis, of Amarillo; her son, Charles V. (Van) Johnson and wife Terri, of Tucker, GA; four grandchildren, Charles Jarvis of Houston, Michael Johnson of Atlanta, Andrew Johnson of Station, and Camille Johnson of Tucker, as well as a number of nieces and nephews. Dorothy was preceded in death by her parents and sisters, Mary Sue Rash and Willena Tucker. She is also survived by a host of friends, including The Group \ Gay Howard, Marian Jackson, Dixie McCormick, Robin Insalaco, and Vicki Stewart \ who regularly took dinner and then joined her for a meal and visiting. Special thanks to her caregivers from Hamptons Plus , at the Hamptons at Pine Forest, The Heights of Tyler, and The Heritage in Amarillo. Obituary: Dorothy S. Johnson went home with the Lord on 21, 2014. Born in Charlotte, North Carolina on 26, 1915 and preceded in death by her husband of 61 years Elmer W. Johnson; son, William J. (Jerry) Johnson; brother, Raymond Langlois and granddaughter Janna Johnson. Dorothy Johnson was a wonderful daughter, wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She worked in the family business, Johnson Automotive. Dorothy taught school and Bible Study at Oak Cliff Methodist as well as other area churches. She was considered an authority on the Bible. Survived by sons Joseph R. Johnson ( Donna) of DeSoto and Wesley W. Johnson (Ruth Ann) of Toledo, Ohio and daughter in law, Rebecca J. Obituary: Dorothy Johnson died May 18, 2012 in Lubbock at the age of 88. She was born 1, 1923 in Racine, Wisconsin to Christ and Louise Christensen. She was reared by her aunt and uncle, Hart and Tracy Webb of Kenosha, Wisconsin. Dorothy graduated from Kenosha High School in 1942. high school she attended Milwaukee Hospital School of in Wauwatosa, Wisconsin where she became a Registered Nurse and specialized in pediatrics. Dorothy married Dr Clark Johnson in 1953 and they made their home in Sweetwater for 22 years were Clark had an active medical practice. Dorothy was a devoted Christian and taught School for many years. Clark and Dorothy moved to Lubbock, Texas in 1975 where she was active in the auxiliaries at Methodist and St. Marys Hospitals for many years. She loved her role as a wife, mother and grandmother. She enjoyed knitting, bird watching, growing roses, working crossword puzzles and reading. She was a member of Westmont Christian Church for many years. Survivors include her children and their spouses, Craig and Nancy Johnson of Sweetwater, Texas, Mary and Steve Moore of El Paso, Texas and Bruce and Madonna Johnson of Austin, Texas. Also seven grandchildren, Katie, Christopher, and Carly Johnson, Robert, Katie Moore-Cisneros (husband, Jacob Cisneros) and Karen Moore, and Kristen Johnson. She has a great-grandson, Efren Cisneros. Dorothy was preceded in death by her beloved husband Clark, her parents, and two sisters, Merle Pavelick and Juanita Lenart. A memorial service will be held at Westmont Christian Church, May 22, 2012 at 2:00 pm with a family visitation to follow the service. Memorials may be made to charity of your choice. |
