Obituary: Raymond Johns passed away peacefully with his devoted family by his side on 18th after a courageous battle with a rare blood cancer. He was born on 5, 1947 in St. Louis, Missouri, the son of Raymond and Marie Johns who preceded him in death. He graduated from St. John Vianney Catholic High School in St. Louis and from the University of Missouri with a degree in advertising and journalism, where he was a member of Phi Kappa Theta fraternity. graduation he served in the United States National Guard. Raymond began his professional career with Leo Burnett in Chicago, working in both the creative and media sales divisions. He later joined Seltel Inc., as Sr. Vice President and Western Division Manager of the Los Angeles office. He was subsequently appointed to the position of President and Chief Executive Officer, based in New York City. The firm represented all six major broadcast networks and major station groups, and was comprised of 20 regional sales offices across the country, servicing more than 1,000 advertising agencies in both large and small markets. In 1997 Raymond became a group television station owner when he founded Catamount Broadcast Group, acquiring multiple CBS and Fox television stations located in the markets of Twin Falls, Idaho, Chico/Redding California, and Fargo, North Dakota. He remained President and Chief Executive Officer until his retirement. Raymond had a passion for history and was an avid collector of Civil War memorabilia. As a hobby, he restored two historic homes, one in Chicago and one in Norwalk, Connecticut. He found great enjoyment visiting antique shows throughout the East Coast, his wife in tow and a back-pack ready to fill. He traveled extensively during his lifetime - throughout the United States, the Galapagos Islands, Europe, The Greek Aisles, Hawaiian Islands, Mexico and the Caribbean. However, many of his favorite moments were spent fly fishing in solitude along the rivers of Connecticut, catch and release only, and metal detecting along the shoreline of the Long Island Sound. Above all it was his family who brought him his greatest pride and joy. He embraced the role of husband and father and found his greatest happiness spending time with his wife and watching his sons grow and thrive. He never missed an opportunity to encourage and support them in their endeavors and was forever present for their most modest or most special events. His Catholic faith was strong and of great importance to him. He was a loyal and faithful member of Our Lady of Fatima in Connecticut and Christ the King in Dallas. When Raymond and his family relocated to Dallas, he quickly, happily, and with great ease learned to love his adopted state and the Texas culture. He planted deep Texas roots which will, no doubt, continue to grow through his sons. He was proud to call himself a Texan. Raymond is survived by his wife of 23 years, Paige Johns, sons Jake and Sam Johns, sister and brother-in-law Mona and Gene Towns, mother and father-in-law Carol and Gary Everett, brother and sister in-law Ethan and Kiersten Everett, and nephews who adored him. A Memorial Mass will be held on , 23 at 10:00 am at Christ the King Catholic Church with a reception following. Raymond will be laid to rest at Sparkman/Hillcrest Memorial . In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in Raymonds name to The National Marrow Donor Program at BeTheMatch.org. The family wishes to express gratitude to the devoted nursing staff at Baylor T. Boone Pickens Cancer Hospital for their kind and loving care. |

Obituary: Maudie Mae Mohler Johns of Webberville, TX was born 16, 1924, and passed away peacefully on 29, 2011. Maudie was preceded in death by husband of 50 yrs, Elmer Jack, granddaughter Bonnie, great-great granddaughter Kinsee Mae Phillips and son-in-laws Wilbur Eady and Pat Toliver. Survived by sons - James Tuffy, Elmer Lee (Joyce), Jacky (Nancy), Franky (Vivian), and daughters - Pearl Eady, Dorthy Sue Toliver, Maudie A. (Barbara); 16 grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren and 3 great-great grandchildren. Also brother, Marvin Mohler. Visitation will be held , Jan 1, 2012 from 3-5pm at Cook Walden, Forest Oaks location. services will be held , Jan 2, 2012 at 1:00 pm at the same location with the interment to follow. Maudie loved her God, her family and her cats. Maudie served at River Road Baptist Church for many years as a School teacher, a Vacation Bible School worker, and she sang in the choir. Later, when she physically could not attend church, she made sure Jacky came by to get her offering for the church. She also helped in the Mothers Day Out program at River Road just so she could be with children. Anytime the youth of the church would need something for a bake sale, Maudie would step up. She would volunteer Jacky to cook for the Brotherhood just so she could cook the meal. When Jacky was about 5 or 6, Momma and Poppa were going out, the two oldest, Tuffy and Pearl, were going to abysit. Jacky said he would run away if they were going to babysit. Tuffy said he would shoot Jacky if he tried to run away. Jacky ran away, Tuffy shot, and Jacky stayed in the barn until Momma and Poppa got home. It took another 33 years for Jacky to leave home. Maudie was very proud of her 7 kids. The 3 girls always said With Momma, it is always about the 4 boys - whatever the boys want. But the girls need to remember the boys got Mom out of the milking barn. Maudie worked side-by-side with her husband in the milking barn until 1956. She was still toting milk pails when she was pregnant with her youngest son Franky until she was about 7 months along and then her eldest son Tuffy quit school to work in the barn. As each son and daughter began leaving her home - except Jacky - Maudie looked forward to the holidays for family get-togethers. She so looked forward to having all her kids together again. From the horse shoe games, the nephews trying to beat the uncles in anything, to the egg hunts, opening Christmas gifts on Christmas Eve, or eating the Thanksgiving turkey, Maudie would sit back and savor all the excitement of the moment. Maudie soon became Granny with 16 grandchildren, from the first in 1964 to the last in 1983. Each one was very special to Granny. One granddaughter, Becky, was helped into this world by Granny. She reached over the back seat to deliver her on the way to the hospital in Georgetown and wrapped her in the vest she was wearing and just held her over the seat until they arrived at the hospital. Becky when about 11, was staying with Granny one summer and it was Vacation Bible School time. Poppa and boys were late coming in from the barn and she needed to leave to get to VBS on time. But she also had to make sure that they got their supper. The men folk finally got to the house so she grabbed her VBS stuff and told Becky, lets go. She told Becky to put her seat belt on and hold on. Granny drove 70 mph around those curves between home and the church. She told Becky that she could not be late because she had to be there to teach a class. It made such an impression on Becky that when she got old enough to drive, she tried to take those same curves at 70 mph but she couldn do it quite like Granny. Granny soon became Big Granny with 24 great grandchildren and 3 great-great grandchildren. She was also known as Nanny from the days when she babysat children like Travis Turner and Ben Turnipseede. Mom would boast to anyone who would listen about her 7 kids, 16 grandchildren, 24 great grandchildren and 3 great-great grandchildren. Everyone at Cedar View Rehab and knew about Maudies family. In 1964, Poppa began working for Sansom & Sons dairy in Webberville. Maudie became a full-time housewife and with extra time on her hands, she began working the newspaper crossword puzzles. Even with only a 7th grade education, Maudie would get all of the answers. She worked on the puzzles until her eye-sight began failing. Maudie loved having cats around her. Certain great granddaughters knew the way to Big Grannys heart was to just put a kitten in her lap. Each generation became more precious to Big Granny. Maudie began this journey 16, 1924 and on 24, 1939 at the age of 15 she began her walk with Elmer Jack Johns; a walk that would last 50 years and 4 months. Then her life journey ended 29, 2011 after 87 years and 4 months. The journey included some hardships but the highlights over-shadowed them. Now she has begun a new journey with no more pain and she gets to see Poppa and walk and worship Jesus everyday. But remember daughters - she is watching so you better be nice to her boys. |
