Obituary: Shirley Ann Jankowiak, 81 of Richardson, Texas passed away on 27, 2016. Shirley was born on 9, 1935 on a farm in Hewitt, Texas. graduating Midway High School in 1953, Shirley got her LVN from Hillcrest Hospital. Shirley always said this time in school with her friends were some of her happiest memories and such good times. She worked for an oral surgeon before marrying her sweetheart Len on 29, 1957. Len was in the Air Force and Shirley happily became a pilot's wife. moved about the country - New Hampshire, California, Nebraska before heading back to Texas. The travels allowed Shirley to explore different antiquing opportunities - something she continued to do and enjoy even after returning home to Texas. Becoming a mother was a natural for Shirley and even with 5 children, she made it seem easy. She was always involved in the childrens' activities from scouting to school functions. Once the children were older, Shirley decided to go back to work but wanted to work with children. She worked for several Mothers Day out programs, always wanting to be in the infant room where she could sit and rock the babies. As grandchildren started to arrive, Shirley simply had more babies to rock and was always available to do so. Even as they grew, Shirley could be found at their different soccer games, birthday parties and school functions. Shirley grew up with a love of animals. This continued though out her entire life. Her home was known for taking in strays or injured animals. None of them were going to be kept, but somehow they always managed to stay and live out their lives with Shirley. Being a member of St. Paul the Apostle Church was an important part of Shirleys life. She and Len were members for over 40 years. Even when her health was failing, if there was any way Shirley could attend church, she was there, wearing a smile. The relationship was mutually beneficial. She gave from her love for God and the Parrish, and she gathered a lot of strength from the incredible kindness of Parrish members. Shirley was preceded in death by her parents Herbert and Trudy Neumann and her husband, Leonard Jankowiak. She is survived by her sister Dorothy Peevey and her husband Robert; her brother Ted Neumann and his wife Doris; her 5 children, Patrick, Richard, Mary and her husband Ted, Andrew and his wife Tegist, and Stephen; grandchildren, Michael, Kyle, Jonathan, Sarah, Samrah and Alison; great grandchildren Jayden, Hailey and Wyatt. arrangements will be held at 10:00 AM, , 31, 2016, at St. Paul the Apostle Church, with a rosary to precede at 6PM , 30, 2016. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the SPCA of Dallas. |

Obituary: retirement from the Air force, he worked in technical and design roles in the nuclear medicine instrument and industrial prototype/model industries. He was a member of St Paul the Apostle Church, past commander and newsletter editor for VFW Post # 3530, and longtime member of the Knights of Columbus. Len had a passion for flying, sketching, detailed model crafting, cars, and playing and composing music. He enjoyed league bowling and loved animals. He was adept with the accordion and considered it his favorite musical instrument. He was an incredibly generous man both in time and spirit. He enjoyed setting up the equipment for the church choir every week until his recent illness. Additionally, he volunteered often, and frequently drove those in need to their doctor appointments and elsewhere. Len was also a devoted family man. He worked tirelessly to put five children through twelve years of Catholic school, and never complained about the sacrifices made to do so. Through the years he attended all of the local childrens' and grandchildrens' birthdays, school, and team events. It was not all work and no play. Doing most of the work himself, he rebuilt and restored a 1968 Buick Riviera, a two door coupe with a 430 cubic inch Wildcat V8, variable pitch torque converter, and front wheel drive. It ran like a top and handled like the luxury sports car he'd made of it. He'd had other favorite cars but this was his pride and joy. His many successes were due to his habit of detailed forethought, and his way of carrying out his work duties with precision, and his family and community duties with a great deal of love and respect for others. Of course, his first love was always his wife, Shirley. He loved not only spending time with her but being able to do things for her. had many adventures during his time in the air force before settling in Texas. He is preceded in death by Parents Chester and Celia Jankowiak and his sister Rita and her husband Marty Griffin. Survived by his wife, Shirley; children: Patrick, Richard and wife Cassey, Mary and husband Ted, Andrew and wife Tegist, and Stephen; grandchildren: Michael, Kyle, Nina, Jonathan, Sarah, Samrah, and Alison; great grandchildren: Jayden, Hailey, and Wyatt; Brother Henry Jankowiak and wife Dorothy. arrangements will be held at 10:00 AM, , 3, 2015, at St. Paul the Apostle Church, with a rosary to precede at 6PM , 2.
