Obituary: Our beloved mother and grandmother, Joan Camarinos Janes, left this earth on , 26, 2010. She was born on 27, 1916 to Anna and Pete Camarinos in Eagle Pass, Texas where her parents settled after emigrating from Greece to the United States. She often reminisced of her happy youth in Eagle Pass. She met her future husband, John Janes, when he came to Eagle Pass for a visit. Their mothers had been close friends in Greece. Mother and Daddy married on May 17, 1945, and moved to Vancouver. enjoyed life in Canada, but Mother longed for Texas. returned to Texas to make their home in Houston. joined the Annunciation Greek Orthodox Church and became active members of the growing church community. Mother joined the Daughters of Penelope and the Philoptochos. She was devoted to her family, friends, and church. Mother was an amazing woman. She was trilingual from an early age - fluent in Greek, Spanish, and English. She loved animals and was an avid gardener who could get anything to grow. Mother played an active role in rearing her three grandchildren. In her later years, she discovered that she had a talent for painting. We teased her that she could have been a famous painter had she not had children. She smiled and said her children and grandchildren were her most important paintings. Mother is survived by her daughters: Anne Papakonstantinou, Linda Makris, and Cathy Janes-Kowalski; her son-in-laws: Konstantinos Papkonstantinou, Victor Makris, and William Kowalski; her grandchildren: Joanna Papakonstantinou and Alec and Stuart Makris; as well as her sisters: Nicha and Lope; and many other friends and family. She was preceded in death by her husband, parents, and sister, Julia. Although we will miss her terribly, we know she is in a better place. Her memory will remain in our hearts forever. Our family would like to thank Belmont Village West University for providing a wonderful home for Mother the last decade of her life. We would also like to thank Manor Sharpview and Dr. Christopher Lockhart for the excellent care and comfort they provided Mother in her last days. In addition, we would like to thank Mothers caregivers, Olga Rosales and Norescilla McMillian, for their devotion, compassion and care. We also appreciate the excellent medical care that Dr. Irene Sobolevsky provided Mother over the years. Visitation will be on from 5 p.m. until 8 p.m. at The Earthman Bellaire with a Trisagion at 6 p.m. The funeral will be held on at 11 a.m. at the Annunciation Greek Orthodox Cathedral. Interment will follow at Forest Park Lawndale . In lieu of flowers, you may make a donation to the Annunciation Greek Orthodox Cathedral. |
