Obituary: James W. Alford, Jr. was born on 9, 1922 and passed on 27, 2015 at the age of 93. Jimmy Alford, owner of Jimmy Alford Studios and Alford Photo Industries, passed away peacefully with his family gathered around. Jimmy was born in Ripley, TN. He was a Navy Veteran and served in WWII on the USS Daly. serving in the war, he began a Civil Service job in Hawaii and lived there for two years. He returned to Memphis and began photographic school at Woodard School of Photography. Soon after, he married Freda R. Alford and began a full-time career as a studio photographer at Brys Department Store in downtown Memphis. In 1964 he opened The Jimmy Alford Studios on N. Second St., dedicating most of his skills to family and baby portraits. In the early 1960s the idea of school day portraits presented itself. Jimmy began diligently working as a pioneer for school day portraits with the Memphis City School Board. He indeed paved the way for school portraits in Memphis. Jimmy was preceded in death by his granddaughter, Ashton Alford and his sister, Dorothy Temple. He leaves his wife of 65 years, Freda Alford; sons, Wes (Tina), Steve (Amy) and Jody (Vickie); grandchildren, Anna and Wesley Alford; four extended grandchildren and five extended great grandchildren. A catered gathering of family and friends will be held on evening, 30 from six oclock to eight oclock at Memphis , 5599 Poplar Ave. Services will be held on afternoon, 31 at two oclock in the mausoleum chapel of Memorial Park . Obituary: James L. (Jim) Eidson, Jr., 69, passed away , 2, 2016. He was preceded in death by his parents, James and Mary Eidson. Jim was a graduate of East Ridge High School and attended East Tennessee State University. He relocated to California with his family for a number of years. Jim had a long career in the printing profession. He worked for the Davy McKee in San Fransisco, CA in their printing department and also for the city of Sunnyvale, California. Upon returning to Chattanooga he co-managed his parents restaurant, Eidson Restaurant, in East Ridge with his sister after their parents retired. He also owned and operated the Titan Printing in East Ridge. Jim was a member of the Rossville Lions Club. Survivors include his wife of 47 years, Judith Eidson; two sons, Kris Eidson and Alex Eidson and his fiancé, Jessica Gilbride.; one sister, Evelyn (Don) Seagle; sisters and brothers-in-law, Mary Jo and Mike McAfee and Carolyn and Marty Fischer and several nieces and nephews. Obituary: James "Jack" K. Marsh Jr., 82 passed away 7, 2015 at his home in Cordova, TN. He led a very full and rewarding life full of many adventures, hobbies and interest. He was a veteran of the United States Air Force, serving in both the Korean War and the Vietnam War, he retired from his military career with the West Tennessee Air National Guard at the rank of Senior Master Sergeant, after serving his county admirably. His service in the Air Force was from 16, 1950 until 30, 1992. He was a former South Memphis Golden Gloves Champion, known as "Jolting Jack Marsh", and avid coin collector, a member of the Memphis Coin Club, played softball for the Memphis Rodders, and had a passion for motorcycle riding exploring many areas of our country. In addition Mr. Marsh was a very talented painter and artist, one of his main interest in painting was the art on aircraft. As the restoration of the Memphis Belle was completed, he was called on to paint the famous markings of the B-17 bomber; painted Lisa Marie Presley's golf cart with its custom lettering. He also enjoyed bop dancing, was a former member of Whitehaven Jaycee's, Carnival of Memphis Royalty and Grand Krewe of Ptah. He loved life and never met a stranger. He is survived by his wife, Marti McCool Marsh, daughters, Jeri Suedekum, Amy (Rob) McCrady, Ashley (Josh) Lax; one son, Jay Marsh; grandchildren, Heidi Suedekum (Michael) Graham, Allison McCrady, Evan McCrady, Lathon Lax and Shelby Lax, one great-granddaughter, Ellie Marie Graham; and one sister, Carolyn Marsh Howard, many nephews and host of friends, both professional and personal. services for Mr. Marsh will be held , 16, 2015, at 1 p.m. at Memphis , 5599 Poplar Avenue. His Loves in life were his family, his farm and above all his heavenly father JEHOVAH God, with whom he spoke to and relied on daily for guidance and strength. As Bill sleeps today in death we can all take comfort in the truth of JEHOVAHS promise. While today our hearts feel empty, the day is fast approaching when God shall wipe away all tears from our eyes and there shall be no more death, neither sorrow, nor crying, neither shall there be any more pain: for the former things will have passed away. Bills faith in this promise never wavered. Obituary: Wesley M. James, 73, of Chattanooga, TN, passed away peacefully surrounded by his family , 25, 2011. A native of Dayton, TN, he has been a resident of the Chattanooga area most of his life and was a member of the Vine Grove United Methodist Church. He was a registered surveyor in Tennessee, Georgia and Alabama and had operated his own business for over 10 years. his retirement he worked for Betts Engineering. A loving husband, father and grandfather he loved spending time with his grandkids and loved to travel. He attended Tennessee Tech and UTC and was an avid UT Vols fan. He was the son of the late Morgan and Jennie Matthews James and was preceded in death by his son, Phillip Christensen. Survivors include his wife, Mona James; daughter and her husband, Beth and Ty Adkins, Signal Mountain; two grandchildren, Austin Adkins and Jenny Adkins. The family request in lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Vine Grove United Methodist Church, 211-8th Ave., Dayton, TN 37321 or to Hospice of Chattanooga, 4411 Oakwood Drive, Chattanooga, TN 37416. A private graveside service will be held at a later date in Hamilton Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends from 4-8 p.m. at the North Chapel of Chattanooga , Crematory & Florist, 5401 Highway 153. |
