Obituary: .Charlotte - James R. Johnson, age 85, passed away May 17, 2016. He was preceded in death by his wife, Joyce Keltner Johnson and son, Michael Johnson. Jim was a graduate of Buckingham High School in Virginia where he grew on his familys farm. Jim was a new car salesman in Charlotte for 40 years, and was a U.S. Air Force Veteran serving as a staff sergeant. He was an avid car enthusiast, a die-hard Cowboys fan who enjoyed watching football on television and enjoyed hunting and being in the great outdoors. He was a member of Calvary United Methodist Church for many years and volunteered with The Loaves and Fishes Ministry for 20 years. Obituary: James Jimmy Willard Johnson, 72, of Brown Summit, went home to be with The Lord on 23, 2015, from his residence. A graveside service will be held at 11:00 am , 28, 2015 at New Garden Friends Meeting , 801 New Garden Rd., in Greensboro. Jimmy was born in Guilford on 25, 1943 to the late Almer McKinley and Irma McCollum Johnson. He lived the same area of Monticello most of his life. He attended Monticello School, worked for Cone Mills, was a carpenter, a farmer, a farrier, a hunter, and could fix almost anything. Jimmy loved his family, friends, his farm, and playing Bluegrass and Gospel music with his friends. He is survived by his loving wife of 53 years, Martha Knight Johnson of the home; sister, Geraldine Carter; brothers, Lee and his wife Bobbie, Larry and his wife Joan, and Bobby and his wife Patricia; mother-in-law, Sara M. Obituary: James (“Jim, Brother or Rock”) McDaniel Johnson, 82, of Dunn, North Carolina died on 19th in Asheville, North Carolina. He was the youngest child of Nathan Manly Johnson, Sr. and Elizabeth (“Bessie”) Denning Johnson of Dunn. He is survived by his beloved and devoted wife of fifty nine years, Elizabeth (“Betty”) Morrison Johnson, four children, Elizabeth (“Lisa”) Johnson Bondurant (Stuart) of Atlanta, Georgia, James Morrison Johnson of Phoenix, Arizona, Laura Johnson Frey (Jim) of Putney, Vermont, and Allen McDaniel Johnson of High Point, North Carolina. He is also survived by eight grandchildren whom he loved dearly, Will, Ben, Beth and James (“Bear”) Bondurant, Katherine Frey Ellison (Nichol), Maya Johnson, Grant Johnson and Morgan McDaniel Johnson; a sister, Jackie Johnson Bissette, sisters in law, Helen Soutter and Jane Waddell, and numerous nieces and nephews. He graduated from Dunn High School in 1950, Davidson in 1954 and The University of North Carolina Law School in 1957. He was admitted to the North Carolina State Bar in of 1957 and practiced briefly before serving as a legal officer in the Army Judge Advocate Generals Corp. He was released from active duty in the fall of 1959 and returned home to resume his law practice and to participate in the management of his father’s business, Johnson Cotton and later Johnson Stores. He practiced law in Dunn from 1959 until retirement in of 2014. Jim was active in the civic affairs of Dunn and Harnett . He served as Chair of the Dunn United Fund Campaign in 1960, and as Chair in numerous other charitable fund drives in Dunn and Harnett . From 1959 through 1968, he served gratuitously as counsel to the Betsy Johnson Memorial Hospital, a local charitable hospital founded by his father and named in memory of his grandmother. He was an avid private pilot and a charter member of the Harnett Airport Committee that was charged with the responsibility of developing an airport for Harnett . He was instrumental in securing the original airport site for the airport by private purchase rather than by condemnation proceedings. He was also active in the affairs of his profession. He was a President and member of the Harnett Bar Association and Vice President of the 11th Judicial District Bar. He served for six years as a member of the North Carolina State Bar Council and for fourteen years as a member of the 11th Judicial Bar Review. Jim was a devoted and life-long member of the Divine Street United Methodist Church. At Divine Street, he served as legal counsel, School Teacher, Usher, Chair of the Church Council, several terms as a member of the Board of Trustees and as the initial Chair of the Endowment Fund. A Memorial Service will be held at 2:00 on , 29, 2015 at Divine Street United Methodist Church, 400 West Divine Street in Dunn, with Reverend Beth Gaines officiating. Obituary: James Edwin Johnson, Jr. (Jay), 84, died peacefully in Charlotte the afternoon of 17, 2014. Jay was born on 24, 1929, the son of James Edwin Johnson and Gladys Benton Johnson of Benson, NC. He graduated from Benson High School in 1945 and enrolled at Wake Forest in Wake Forest, NC, where he joined the Kappa Sigma fraternity. In 1949, he entered Wake Forest Law School. His studies were interrupted by service in the United States Air Force, but he returned to graduate with a LLB degree in 1956 and was admitted to the North Carolina Bar that same year. His education continued at New York University School of Law where he earned an LLM in Taxation, a legal discipline he would specialize in for the remainder of his career. Jays first job after school was with the Regional Counsels Office of the Internal Revenue Service in Atlanta, Georgia, where he gained invaluable trial experience before the Tax Court of the United States. In 1962, Jay became an associate tax attorney for Hull, Willingham, Towill, Norman, one of a, Georgias prominent law firms, where he would later become a named Partner. During his 19 years in a, Jay served as an elder in Reid Memorial Presbyterian Church and was active with the a Exchange Club and the Hospital Authority Board. In addition, he served as Chairman of both the Tax Section and the Fiduciary Law Section of the Georgia State Bar. He was also a founder of the Southern Federal Tax Institute, a non-profit corporation whose professional conference is currently attended by more than 550 tax attorneys each year. In 1979, Jay started a new firm in Charlotte, Johnson & Blanchfield, in order to service his growing North Carolina clientele, which included Belk Stores, Nucor Steel and North Carolina National Bank. In 1989, he merged his practice with Womble, Carlyle, Sandridge and Rice, and he remained a senior tax partner in the firms Charlotte office until his retirement in 2005. Throughout his career, Jay was routinely selected as one of The Best Lawyers in America, an award given annually to those who had distinguished themselves in the legal profession. While in Charlotte, Jay served as General Counsel and Board member of the Charlotte Chamber of Commerce. He also sat on the following boards: Carolina care Systems, Carolina Services Foundation, Monk-Austin, DIMON International and The Harris Foundation. In addition, he served many terms on the Wake Forest University Board of Trustees and was elected as a Life Trustee of the University in 2000. Jay was an avid golfer who enjoyed the game and its history. He was also a frequent jokester, whose personality endeared him to a bounty of close friends and business associates. In 1974, Jay started the Wake Forest Masters Party and he continued to co-host the annual event for more than 35 years, which helped bolster strong ties, allegiance and recognition for the Wake Forest Golf program. At the time of his death, Jay was a member of Myers Park Presbyterian Church, Quail Hollow Club and the a National Golf Club, where he served as Secretary and General Counsel for several decades. Jay was preceded in death by his devoted wife of more than forty-four years, Nancy Beck Johnson. He is survived by his three children and their respective spouses: Anne Johnson Bolt of North Myrtle Beach, SC; Jane Johnson White and William Dunlop White III of Winston-Salem, NC; and James Edwin Johnson III and Suzanne Twardeck Johnson of Little Rock, AR; plus four grandchildren: Nancy Walker White, Katherine McCrary White, Caroline Beck Johnson and James Edwin Johnson IV. Jay also had three siblings that he loved dearly: Mrs. Barbara Johnson Parnell of Raleigh, NC; Mr. Preston Benton Johnson of Spring Hill, FL; and the late Mrs. Linda Johnson Cannon of New Orleans, LA. The family expresses heartfelt appreciation to Dr. Robert A. Heyer, Carol Dickinson, Dr. Daniel E. Haggstrom and the numerous others that provided extraordinary care for Jay during his prolonged illness. A memorial service to celebrate Jay's life will be held at Myers Park Presbyterian Church, 2501 Oxford Place, Charlotte, NC at 11:00 AM on , 20, 2014. Obituary: Mr. James Wade Johnson, 90, of Greensboro went to be with his Lord , 31, 2011. The funeral service will be held , 3:30 p.m., at Hanes-Lineberry N. Elm Chapel. Steve Pope will be officiating the service. Interment will follow at Westminster Gardens with full military honors. Wade was born 26, 1921 in Winston-Salem, the son of Walter Reade Johnson and Lou Millholland Johnson. Wade was a veteran of the US Army Air Corp serving during WWII. He was also member of Lawndale Baptist Church and was a 32nd Degree Mason. As a fisher of men, Wade served faithfully in the prison and Greater Piedmont Teen Challenge ministries and the fellowship of Alcoholics Anonymous. Wade devoted the last thirty seven years of his life selflessly counseling and ministering to all he met. In addition to his parents, Wade was preceded in death by two sisters and one brother. Surviving are his wife, Judith Mills Johnson; children, Joseph W. Johnson, Linda Foster and Diane Johnson, all of Greensboro; four grandchildren and five great grandchildren. Wades family will receive friends on , 2 from 6:00-8:00 p.m., at the funeral home. Memorials may be directed to Hospice and Palliative of Greensboro, 2500 Summit Ave., Greensboro, NC 27405.
