Obituary: Lyle Robert Johnson was born on 4, 1920 in De Smet, South Dakota to Olai and Dorothy (Harrison) Johnson. In high school, he won a scholarship through 4-H Club work to South Dakota State University and, while working part-time at the SD Experiment Station, completed three academic years. A year after Pearl Harbor, he enlisted in the army air corps. As part of the Air Weather Service, he was schooled in meteorology and radar and assigned to a research project in the South Pacific. discharge he did graduate work at the University of Chicago, but was recalled during the Korean engagement to coordinate the installation of a pioneering Univac computer in the Pentagon. Mr. Johnson worked as a computer specialist at Ford Motor and in software development at Sperry Rand. joining IBM in 1958, he served in various technical roles and capped his career by co-authoring two volumes that document IBMs technical contributions to the mainframe computer industry. Mr. Johnson was preceded in death by his wife, Emily; his sister, Phyllis Taschner; and his brother, Ivon Johnson. He is survived by his children: Eric Johnson of Ocala, Florida and Connie Lewis of Montgomery, Alabama; his grandchildren: Robin Lewis of Washington, DC and Jennifer Lewis of Montgomery; and precious nieces and nephews: Carol Joyce Hurlbert, Joanne Groves, Ardis Taschner, Judy Thiesse, Randy Johnson, Roberta Peterson, Rick Johnson, and Jolynn Kuhn. A memorial service will be held on 22, 2015, 2 PM at St. George Anglican Cathedral, 5646 SE 28th St, Ocala, FL 34480. A Celebration of his life will be held in summer 2015 in De Smet, South Dakota. |

Obituary: Mrs. Lucy V. Johnson, born 9, 1922, passed away on , May 29, 2015. She was preceded in death by her husband of 49 ½ years, Gerald E. Johnson. Lucy is survived by her three children, Judy Stanfield of Modesto, CA, Jeanie Chavez of Lubbock, TX, and Jerry Johnson of Beckley, WV; and seven grandchildren. She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Prattville and worked in the church nursery for a few years. Lucy and Gerald belonged to the Air Stream Club and enjoyed camping with friends before his death. Obituary: Lucille Gann Johnson, 92, of Athens died , 22, 2011, in Huntsville where she lived with her daughter and family in recent years. A celebration of the life will be at 11 a.m. in the Garth Chapel of First United Methodist Church in Athens with the Rev. Coy Hallmark officiating. The family will receive friends at 10 a.m. in the Church Parlor. Mrs. Johnson was born 18, 1919, in Belgreen to the Rev. and Mrs. Joshua Arthur Gann. As a PK (Preachers Kid), she grew up in various towns in the North Alabama Conference of the Methodist Church. She received her bachelors degree, with honors, from Athens , now Athens State University, majoring in English and Latin. She married William Herman Johnson of Athens 9, 1943, and, after thirteen years of marriage, they had their only child, Mary Ena Johnson Heath. Mrs. Johnson taught English in Birmingham and Gadsden before finishing her teaching career at Athens Middle School. Mrs. Johnson was a member of the Athens First United Methodist Church. She served as president of the Athenian Study Club and Delta Kappa Gamma Teachers Honorary. She volunteered with the Retired Senior Volunteer Program and Civitan Club and coordinated neighborhood charity drives. An American Red Cross volunteer, she served as Assistant Staff Coordinator and volunteered with the Gray Ladies and the bloodmobile. Mrs. Johnson was an avid bridge player and a member of several bridge clubs. She enjoyed knitting, crocheting, and reading. Since her often-requested recipe for chess pie - one of her specialties - made two pies, she always liked to give one away to friends. Her pride and joy was her family, especially her grandchildren, Lucy and Stahler. Mrs. Johnson was preceded in death by her parents, the Rev. Joshua Arthur Gann and his wife Mary Paulk Gann; her husband, W. Herman Johnson; and her brothers James Gann and Dr. William Gann. She is survived by her daughter, Mary Ena Johnson Heath, and her husband, Warne S. Heath, of Huntsville; granddaughter and namesake, Lucille Heath Duggar and her husband, Grant Duggar, of Atlanta; grandson, Warne Stahler Heath, Jr., of Huntsville; sisters, Agnes Gann Pounds of Decatur, Sarah Gann Walters and her husband Stanley Walters of Greenville, Mississippi; and Dr. Nell Gann Hooper of Albertville; and many dear nieces and nephews. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the American Red Cross, Limestone Chapter, P.O. Box 712, Athens, AL 35611; to the First United Methodist Church, 208 East Hobbs Street, Athens, AL 35611; to the Ena Johnson Kennedy Memorial Scholarship benefiting future teachers, Athens State University Foundation, 300 North Beaty Street, Athens, AL 35611; or to your favorite charity. Obituary: MOUNDVILLE - Louise D. Johnson, age 90, of Moundville, died 25, 2016, at Moundville & Rehabilitation. Services will be 2 p.m. , 28, 2016, at Memory Chapel . Burial will follow in Oak Hill with Memory Chapel & Cremations, a Dignity Memorial Provider, directing. Visitation will be , 27, 2016, from 6 to 8 p.m., at the funeral home. She was preceded in death by her parents, William Carl and Evie L. Dockery; husband, Aubrey Johnson; brothers, Malone Dockery, J.D. Dockery and James Dockery; and sisters, Lucille Crawford, Lois McGill and Ola Mae Nichols. Survivors include her daughters, Charlotte Spence (Thomas) of Moundville, Ala. and Lynne Chavis (Bob) of Brookwood, Ala.; sister, Kathleen Dudley (Junior) of Fayette, Ala.; grandchildren, Michelle Dockery and Toby Spence; five great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandson. Louise was retired from Focus on Senior Citizens. She had previously worked in the school system lunchroom and in the cafeteria at the Moundville . She was a loving wife, mother and grandmother. Her family was her pride and joy. She enjoyed cooking and fellowshipping with family and friends. She always made everyone feel welcome in her home. Pallbearers will be Toby Spence, Mark Dockery, Ty Spence, Mitchell Kennedy, Caleb Crawford and Dannie Spence .Honorary pallbearers are friends in Moundville Community, Dr. Skelton, Indian Mounds Baptist Church, Moundville & Rehab staff and residents and special caregiver, Angie James. |
