Obituary: Nick P. Jouras, 88, of Kansas City, MO passed away on 25, 2014. He was the son of Canela and Peter Jouras, who migrated from Greece. He graduated from Paseo High School in 1943 and UMKC in 1950. He served in the US Army during WWII in the 41st Infantry Division in the Philippines. He married Constance (Connie) Metaxas in 1949. He worked as an accountant before becoming an insurance and retirement specialist with Great West Life Insurance Co. and Aetna Life and Annuity Co. Nick was directly responsible for the first ever public employee 457 deferred compensation plan (here) at the City of KCMO, and was proud to serve the city and its employees for over 20 years. Nick was involved with all aspects of sports in Kansas City. He served as VP of the Chief's Club, Board Member of the Kansas City Sports Commission, and Board Member and Gold Coater of the Kansas City Kings. He was a most enthusiastic Chief's fan as a Red Coater and an original tailgater. He enjoyed being a NAIA Honorary Coach from its inception in 1961, received the Frank Cramer Award in 1982, and was an avid Mizzou Tigers and UMKC "Roos" fan. He believed in the importance of supporting Kansas City sports in order for Kansas City to be "on the map". Nick enjoyed golfing, bowling, and playing bridge with his many friends. He was a member and board member of Hillcrest Country Club. He was proud to have made 2 holes in one, the second being on Cypress Golf Course in Monterey, CA. He was active in his church, the Annunciation Greek Orthodox Church, serving on the building committee, on the board as treasurer, and as festival chairman. Nick lovingly cared for his wife, Connie, who passed away in 1990 and his daughter, Nikki, until her death in 2005. He is also preceded in death by his sister, Anne Jamson (Theodore) and brother, James P. Jouras. He leaves his daughter Christi (Phil) Paschang. He also leaves his grandchildren, Matt, Andrea and Danny Paschang, whom he would move mountains for, sisters- in-law Esther (Jim) Konomos, Helen Roof and Sylvia Hague, and many nieces and nephews. He will be remembered as one who never met a stranger, always had a smile, a positive nature, and was a true gentleman. Visitation will be held , 29 from 5-7 pm at Mt. Moriah and Freeman , 10507 Holmes Rd, KCMO, with a prayer service at 6 pm. A Service will be held at 10:30 am on , 30 at the Annunciation Greek Orthodox Church, 12001 Wornall Road, KCMO. Burial will be at Mt. Moriah . In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial donations be made to the Annunciation Greek Orthodox Church Building Fund, the Rehabilitation Institute of KC or Ozanam. |

Obituary: James P. Jouras, 83, of Kansas City, MO, who made the world always look brighter from behind an infectious smile, passed away peacefully on morning, 16, 2011 at St. Joseph Medical from complications arising from a brain hemorrhage and fall on , 11. Jim was born 26, 1927, in Kansas City, MO, to Peter N. and Canela (Tziforos) Jouras, who both migrated to the United States from Greece in 1905 and 1925, respectively. Jim learned the work ethic by working in his fathers restaurant, the well-known Rockhill Lunch at 48th and Harrison located across from the old Trolley Barn at 48th & Troost. He also had a newspaper route as a boy. On 10, 1962, Jim married Lu (Nogel) Armstrong, and became an instant father to Lus 12-year-old daughter, Roxi. Jim and Lu loved playing tennis, bowling, and traveling with their son Peter. truly enjoyed challenging each other working crossword puzzles, especially the New York Times puzzles. With Peters airline job, they were able to travel frequently over the past 18 years. Favorite repeat trips were Stowe, Vermont, and driving up the California coast with stops in Santa Barbara, Cambria, and Monterey. also enjoyed summer trips to Vail, Colorado, in the 1970s and 80s. As tennis fans, another highlight was attending the U.S. Open in New York in 2008 and again in 2010. Jim, an avaricious reader with superb writing skills, was often called upon to edit legal briefs and articles submitted by others for publication. Jims ability to dictate a first and final draft of a written product was phenomenal. In fact, he considered a career in journalism before turning to law in college. From 1955 to 1958, Jim was director of Alumni & Public Relations at the University of Kansas City (now UMKC). From 1958 to 1963, he was lecturer at the university in Business Law, Estate Planning and Trusts. As Special Assistant Attorney General for Missouri from 1960 to 1963, Jim wrote appellate briefs for the state office. He was an Assistant City Attorney for Kansas City, Missouri and an Interim Municipal Court judge. Jim was a member of the Bounders fraternity, the Missouri Bar, the K.C. Metropolitan Bar Association, and Phi Alpha Delta law fraternity. For most of his adult life, Jim was very involved with the Annunciation Greek Orthodox Church where he served as Parish Council President from 1956-60 and again from 1977-80, and also helped coordinate the land acquisition and construction of the church at its current location in the mid-1970s. Jim loved his Greek heritage and in 1992 finally traveled to Greece and visited his parents birthplace, the village of Achladokambos, in the Argolis region of Greece. Jim attended William Rockhill Nelson Elementary School followed by graduation from Paseo High School on D-Day, 6, 1944. He joined the U.S. Navy in 1945, and served for two years, which included operating radar aboard the USS Antietam aircraft carrier in the South Pacific. In 2008, he had a reunion with his old Navy friend and shipmate, James "Bud" Bottoms, for the first time in 61 years. Jim attended the University of Kansas City on the G. I. Bill, where he obtained a bachelors degree in English literature and his law degree in 1953. Upon passing the bar exam in 1953, Jim joined the law firm of Charno & Charno. In 1959, the firm merged to become Tucker, Charno, Willens, Jouras and Tucker. In 1979, due to retirements, the firm became Charno, Willens and Jouras and afterwards upon Willens retirement, Charno & Jouras, since 1992. The friendship among George Charno, Sid Willens and Jim spanned 60 years. Jim often said his love of the law meant "no retirement for me." Jim ended his 58-year law career with a full day at the office on the day of his fall, which occurred while picking up groceries on his way home. Jim was preceded in death by his father, Peter, in 1949; his mother, Canela, in 1982; his sister, Anne Jamson, last . Survivors include his beloved wife, Lu, and son, Peter J. Jouras, both of the home; daughter, Roxi Padrid, and her husband, Phil, of Corrales, New Mexico; brother, Nick P. Jouras, of Kansas City, Missouri; nieces Christi Paschang, Kansas City, Missouri, Mary Hiserman, Monterey, California; Deme Jamson, Santa Clara, California; nephews Nick Jamson, Sacramento, California; Paul Jamson, Grand Island, Nebraska. Visitation will be from 5-7:30 p.m., Trisagion 6 p.m., , Nov. 21, at Mt. Moriah & Freeman Chapel, 10507 Holmes Road.
