Obituary: Nanny Kiss Johanson, 84, Indianapolis, passed away 6, 2015. She is survived by her husband, Ilo Charles Johanson; son, Mark Johanson ( ); and granddaughters, Amanda and Alyssa Johanson. She was preceded in death by her son, Erik Johanson. Nanny lived an enormous life. She was born on 19, 1931 in a small community, Allikukivi in the of Parnumaa, Estonia in the southern part of Estonia. As the communists were re-entering the Baltic States, Estonia, Latvia and Lithuania in 1944, at the age of 13, Nanny and her family fled to Germany to escape the probable deportation to Siberian labor camps. In Germany, they first settled in what was to remain the Russian Zone, so they fled again westward to reach the so-called American Zone, finally settling in the Displaced Persons Camps where later she was able to attend an Estonian High School. She was finally able to immigrate to America to start a new life, sponsored by Lutheran Churches. Working menial jobs to help support her family, she was eventually able to attend a Lutheran Junior in Bronxville, New York. She then transferred to Indiana University where she earned her B.S. in Medical Technology in 1953. She married Ilo in 1955 and two sons, Mark and Erik were born of their union. Nanny flourished within her profession and worked within the Community Hospital network for 41 years, retiring in 1995. Obituary: Ilo Charles Johanson 83, passed away suddenly on 8, 2015. He is survived by son Mark Johanson ( ); and granddaughters Amanda and Alyssa Johanson. He was preceded in death by wife Nanny Kiss Johanson and their son Erik Johanson. Ilo lived an enormous life. He was born on 4, 1932 in the city of Parnu, Estonia. Before the Russian communist army re-occupied Estonia and the other Baltic states in 1944, Ilo and his mother and grandmother fled to Germany to escape the probable deportation to Siberian labor camps. Ilo and family lived in Displaced Persons Camps where Ilo was able to attend Estonian High School. In 1950, Ilo and family immigrated to America and arrived in New York to start their new life, sponsored by the Lutheran World Federation. Soon thereafter they moved to Indianapolis, Indiana. Working menial jobs to help support his family, Ilo recognized the need to get a college degree and started attending Purdue University at night school. serving in the army in the Korean War, Ilo finished his college courses and graduated from Purdue University in 1959 with a degree in Civil Engineering. Ilo worked for the State of Indiana and the city of Indianapolis as a Traffic Engineer and Administrator of Quality Control. Ilo married Nanny in 1955 and two sons, Mark and Erik were born of their union. Obituary: Lola Mae Johann, 91, of Evansville, passed away , 27, 2016, at the Good Samaritan . She was born 16, 1925, in Hopkinsville, Kentucky to the late James and Claudia Owen. Lola enjoyed traveling and most of all spending time with her family. Lola was preceded in death by her husband, Charles G. Johann; great-granddaughter, Tiffani Stotlar; and beloved friend, Robert Pepper Martin. She is survived by daughter, Debbie Hickrod (Carroll); sons, Steve R. Johann and Charles R. Johann (fiancée, Sharon Barker); six grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren and soon to arrive a great-great-grandchild. services will be held 10:00 AM , 2, 2016, at Alexander Newburgh Chapel, officiated by Rev. Mike Claypool, with burial in Sunset Memorial Park. Friends may visit from 3:00 to 8:00 PM and from 9:00 AM until service time at the funeral home.
