We celebrate his 90 years of caring energy and rich good humor.  Born and molded in his mecca Scottsboro, Alabama to John Alden Jones and Alice Collins from Estill Fork, he became the adored gossip and chronicler of this market center.  He was a star student, athlete, populist leader and prankster.    He progressed to beloved Auburn on his Mom's financial advice to study chemical engineering, quickly reset to public administration with less  math.   The  war interrupted college and he won a Bronze Star as a lst Lieutenant in Okinawa.   He met at Auburn  his first wife Sue Worsham Hawkins of Macon, Georgia , as well as Jane Jansen Green of Mobile, Alabama  whom he married after Sue died.  Stanley and Sue established the young adult school class under the tutelage of  Rev.  Sam Hay at Auburn's First Presbyterian Church.  This was the genesis of lifelong support for racial equality and civil rights and he eventually served on the Stillman Board of Trustees when Dr.Hay became President.  He also attended Florida State, Emory, Vanderbilt and Columbia Universities for graduate work in educational psychology and parlayed this knowledge to part time teaching at Millsaps and Ogelthorpe University.  He also became a part time theologian who adored the advocacy of  political involvement for social justice by  Rheinhold Neibhur.  This passion was actively instilled in his sons who held school offices while he ran the Dykes High School PTA in Atlanta. He published a book "Helping Teenagers Realize Their  Potentialities" in that role.  He "nudged" Sue to successfully run for delegate to several Democratic National Conventions and the entire family got swept into the Jimmy Carter gubernatorial and presidential campaigns and administrations. He worked tirelessly on passage of the new Panama Canal Treaty and Sadat-Begin Peace Accords. In his own name, he ran for the Georgia State Senate seat for Buckhead in 1976, always claiming he got the most Democratic votes ever cast  in that Republican district. . Stanley first worked in personnel for Allstate Insurance for nearly 20 years  and hired the first African American assistant in the Atlanta Office.  He was Dean of Students at Clayton State when it opened and then worked for the Georgia  Council  for Children and Youth, the United Nations Association and eventually as a real estate agent..  Stanley maintained an extensive   correspondence with national and international leaders in the White House, Congress, State Department  and the UN, forever sharing his thoughts and commendations.  Sue and Stanley welcomed everyone to their Atlanta home,   regardless of race, ethnicity, wealth  or national origin. The wide political correspondence eventually lead to an extensive  rose and other plant collection from almost all the Presidential' home sites or libraries.  He supported JFK and saw him speak in Houston the day before he died,  but adored earthier southern Presidents LBJ and Clinton.  He was a member of Peachtree Presbyterian Church for 56 years with Sue and then  Jane. In all these roles, he was a loving caretaker of and psychologist to numerous family friends, yellow dog Democrat, and unrelenting "War Eagle". He was lovingly known  to the family of Brighton Gardens as "U Daddy.". Predeceased by Sue and Jane, brother Wayne  and grandson Tom Madden Jones, he is survived by sons Willis , Stan and his wife Bobbi Cleveland;  Wayne's children Diane, Paula and Jeff; grandchildren Mike Madden-Jones and Kate Einhorn, Karen Cleveland, Billy and Angie Ahlquist Cleveland; and new great grandchild Tyler Olivia Madden("TOM")  Jones,    He listened well to young people and all loved him and this welcome ear and his real, ribald sense of humor and life.  We followed his persistent, unrelenting  instructions, most of the time.. A memorial service will be held , 22nd at 2:30pm at Patterson's Oglethorpe Hill Chapel. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Visiting Nurse Systems of Atlanta or Mental America of Georgia.  The family will receive friends afternoon from 1:30 to 2:30 at H.M. Patterson & Son, Oglethorpe Hill Chapel, 4550 Peachtree Road, NE, Atlanta, Georgia, 30319
