Obituary: She was number eight of 11 siblings, raised in Winkleman, Arizona to the parents of Jose and Guadalupe Valdez and given the name of Lillian (Clara) Valdez, born on 24, 1911 who would have turned 104 years young this year. Claras life was centered on family, friends and her strong faith. This family historian was a simple, humble, compassionate woman who believed in a strong work ethic, the golden rule of one should treat others as one would like others to treat oneself, and treasured her family visiting her, watching the Diamondbacks, talking on the phone and maintaining her strong relationships in the community of Florence, Arizona. She was our mother, grandmother, nana (great-great), volunteer, comadre and the list goes on. But even more then all that she filled the role of advocate, nurse, chef, banker, caregiver, babysitter, fashion expert, teacher, confidant, counselor, and loyal friend to many of you. Benecio and Clara Jimenez eloped on 1, 1934 and were married for over 27 years until his passing due to cancer in 1961. Clara is the mother of; Ben, our beloved Joe, Robert, Margie, our beloved Gilbert and Frank. She has 41 grandchildren, 75 great-grandchildren and 4 great-great grandchildren and growing. Throughout Claras life, she held several positions that included; working at a laundry mat for 20 years, taking care of children (nanny) with different families, waitressing at the American Café, working at Borrees alongside her husband and then she landed what she identified as her dream job as a sales clerk at Mandells. She retired from Mandells Department Store after spending over 37 years meeting, greeting, and taking care of people. Dancing and listening to the music of the Big Bands like Guy Lombardo and Mariachi music and sewing were some of her passions. Her continual sense of humor was a gift to all of us with a smile that continues to light up a room, the twinkle of her eyes were like a breath of fresh air and you just never knew what perils of wisdom she would quietly and humbly share with you whether you liked it or not. Clara is preceded death by her husband Benecio, all of her siblings, many relatives and her two sons, Joe and Gil Jimenez. She is survived by her four children Ben (Teresa) of Tucson, AZ, Robert (Gwen) of Murrieta, California, Margie (Louie) Celaya of Florence and Frank of Hemet, California, her daughters-in-laws are; Jeanie Jimenez of Tujunga, California and Geri Jimenez of Forest Grove, Oregon. You were a gift to all of us and we are better people for having been blessed to have you in our lives. You finally got your wings and we all thank you for being the Wind beneath all of our wings. |
