Obituary: Elizabeth (Wilder) Irwin passed away on May 24, 2014, in San Diego. She was 89. Born in Levuka, Ovalau in the Fiji Islands, she lived in Fiji and New Zealand before immigrating to the U.S. in 1959. She settled first in San Francisco and then moved to San Diego, where she lived for many years with her husband, Alexander Irwin, who passed away in 2004. Liza was an independent, courageous, happy and forward looking person. She had a successful career in banking and was an avid amateur championship golfer. She was much loved by her whole family: her son Maurice; seven grandchildren: Carmita (passed away in 2013), Terence, Sena, Leilani, Malia, Seth and Elena; three great grandchildren: Sisi, Malia and Terence: her in-laws Mereani, David and Barbara; her extended family in New Zealand, Fiji, Australia, Hawaii: and her many friends, far and near. In her last six years, Liza was an active member of the Community Program run by the Jewish Family Service of San Diego for residents of Town Park Villas. The JFS is a nondenominational program that helps older adults stay healthy and connected socially. the loss of her husband, Al, this program and its members were important sources of happiness, friendship and support for Liza. In lieu of flowers, the family is asking for donations to support the work of this good program. U.S. Checks or international money orders in memory of Elizabeth Irwin can be mailed as follows. Obituary: DOROTHY R. IRWIN 1919-2015 Dorothy Robinson Irwin, 95, of Riverside passed away peacefully on Feb. 2, 2015 after a long battle with Alzheimer's disease. Dorothy was born 8, 1919 in Chicago, Illinois to Richard and Lillian Robinson. As an only child, she spent her young life in Chicago and Cicero, Illinois. She attended Morton Junior and studied at the famed Goodman Theater in Chicago. She served in the U.S. Coast Guard attaining the rank of Lieutenant Junior Guard. It was during that time that she met her life-long love, Ralph E. Irwin, Jr., a B-17 pilot, at a train station. The courtship ensued over the two-day train ride to Salt Lake City. Ralph proposed, but the wedding was on hold while Dorothy served in Long Beach, CA, and Ralph flew 33 missions overseas. were joined in marriage Oct. 4, 1944. The newlyweds moved to Hollywood he as an MGM artist and she as a radio and stage personality working on the Judy Canova show and the Bob Hope show. Bob Hope once told an audience "Keep your eye on this girl. She can do anything." Her last radio show was in 1949 when Ralph was called back into active duty. Over the next several years, they were stationed in Merced, CA; Goose Bay, Labrador; San Antonio, Texas; Honolulu, Hawaii; Riverside, CA; Wichita Falls, Texas; and Tucson, Arizona. retired back to Riverside in 1966 where Dorothy threw her energy into being a substitute teacher for Alvord Unified School District. She served in that capacity from 1967 to 1989, when she ran for the Alvord Unified School District Board of Education, a position to which she was faithfully dedicated from 1983 to 1992. She also served as an organizer for the Starcapades talent show, was a volunteer reader at local elementary schools, and a 40-year member of Wesley United Methodist Church where she served as a member of the Chancel Choir. She also was an accomplished pianist. Dorothy was preceded in death by her husband of 58 years, Ralph E. Irwin, Jr. Her survivors include her son Richard (Nancy) Irwin of Grand Terrace, CA; her daughter Phyllis (Mark) Coate of Riverside, CA; her three grandchildren Matthew Irwin of Grand Terrace, CA, and his fianc\e Kayla Jordan of Redlands, CA; Kristen (Kyle) McKee of Redlands, CA; and Freddie Muhleman of Riverside, CA, and many children whose lives she touched as a teacher and board member. Memorial services will be held , 17 at 11:30 a.m. at Acheson and Graham Garden of Prayer Mortuary with interment to follow at 1:30 p.m. at Riverside National . A reception will follow at Wesley United Methodist Church. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to the Alzheimer's Association or Wesley United Methodist Church. |

Obituary: a long and fully lived 91 years, Della Marie Irwin passed away in peace whit her children and their spouses by her side. Della was one of five children born to Harry Dale and Esther Nord Snethen on 28, 1922. Della spent her childhood and graduated from high school in Lincoln, Nebraska. She married Vern Irwin also of Lincoln and the couple moved to Los Angeles, California shortly thereafter. Della and Vern had four children and they enjoyed 62 years of love and marriage before he passed in , 2005. Della was not only a loving mother and homemaker, but pursued various careers during her life. She supported her husband in the business ventures they began together. She maintained the bookkeeping and financial management and acted as full counsel on all of his endeavors. Because she liked being with people, Della enjoyed a period of time as a Motor Sales Associate. Her primary career was created when she was appointed Personnel Manager for Sears, Roebuck & in Los Angeles. retirement to Sun Lakes Country Club in Banning she became a Senior Ambassador for Kaiser Permanente and enjoyed working until 82 years of age. In addition to her work, Della has enjoyed her membership at the Beaumont Presbyterian Church, has served as a voting registrar for every election for over 50 years. She maintained active her entire life and through retirement by enjoying the International Cultural Club, Social Singles and the Country Dance Club at Sun Lakes. She had a passion for music and dancing, attended every dance possible and never had to take those dancing shoes off. Della Irwin loved God, her family and people in general. She enjoyed all forms of social interaction, loved to travel with her husband on road trips where she mapped the roads and drove the RV while he praised her driving and attention to detail. his death she enjoyed cruise ships and international travel with her adult children and friends. Della Irwin is survived by her four children; Jacqueline Irwin Dunn, Vern B. Irwin, Pamela Irwin Kirchnavy, Tanis Irwin Patrick and their spouses, twelve grandchildren and twenty-one great grandchildren. A memorial service and celebration of life will be held at Beaumont Presbyterian Church on , 2nd. She will join her husband in a private internment at Riverside National in Riverside, California. under the direction of Weaver Mortuary, Beaumont, CA. |
