Obituary: Benjamin Ray Hendrix Born in Jacksonville, FL 1949, and after enduring a long illness he passed away In Jacksonville, FL May 8, 2011. Bennie would have been 62 years old on his next birthday. Bennie was laid to rest On , May 12th, at the Riverside Memorial Park on Normandy Boulevard, with his immediate family in attendance. His arrangements were handled by Hardage-Giddens Town and Country . Bennie was a truck driver, hauling a myriad of logistical loads to their many destinations. Although he was born and also died in Jacksonville, he had traveled through his work from coast to coast and into Canada. He often mentioned some of the beautiful places he had seen and some of the nicest people he had met along his journeys. In his youth, Bennie was a member of the Duval School Safety Patrol and won awards and a trip to Washington DC with the other award winners from around Florida. Bennie loved to play ball and was active in school sports, also enjoying bicycling, and was actively riding his faithful mountain bike until his health declined in last few years. He was also an active member of the Green Cross and Safety Team that would work events in the local Jacksonville venues. Bennie enjoyed the local wrestling events and was an avid NASCAR/Stock Car Racing Fan and was a longtime member of the Jacksonville Raceways Hall of Fame Club, and a one time member of the Teamsters Local Jax. Bennie will be remembered for his tender heart, sensitive nature and his forever present wit.
